Websites all over the world are carrying tributes to the genius that was Colin McRae. I've taken a couple of tribute posts from my Motorcycle Trials website to post here that show another side to Colin. The first is posted by a guy known as "Big John". He's as anal as it gets on the sport of Trials. He could tell you what colour underpants any given rider, out of 270 riders was wearing on any given day in the 1964 Scottish Six Days Trial! The other story isn't about Colin and Trials at all. It comes from a Trials rider, yes, but shows the fun side of Colin we never really got to see as, publicly, he remained the consummate professional. Two totally different views of Colin and two totally different people, neither of whom were rally fans. Just just two tiny examples of how Colin affected people, as he affected the lives of so, so many others. The world is, without doubt, a poorer place without him around. Colin - word of warning - if you're setting fire to napkins under chairs up there, there's this really big bloke called God. He's a bit scary and apparently knows quite a bit. It's not advisable to do it under his chair

Call me crazy, but how great a tribute would it be if we could line at least part of the route to the celebration of Colin and Johnny's lives with cars? Crap image of idea Cars lined up at a 45 degree angle to the road, headlights, foglights ablaze, using pavements if necessary. Sod it. We only get one chance to say goodbye and, if arranged correctly we could probably get agreement from the Police for this. Not just Scoobies, but anyone who loved and respected Colin and wanted to take part and show their final respects.

Aye - there wasn't one word in Jackie's statement that rhymed with bucking Absolute total respect for Jimmy. Always respected the guy regardless, but how many people who have just lost son and grandson in such tragic circumstances would even agree to be interviewed, let alone hold their composure the way he did. TOTAL RESPECT.

My last pic. Taken at the Scottish Motorsport Show. Ironically where we met for Sunday's trip.

Spoke to Grant earlier and he was concerned that he'd heard some of the stuff we left had gone. If you read the latest on the BBC Website the photo of Jimmy at the top shows tributes have been moved closer to the house.

It's so very difficult to know what to say right now. There are no words that I, or anyone else, could say that will make things right. I only met Colin once and that was very briefly. I'm sure he was as underwhelmed at meeting me as I was overwhelmed at meeting him! I took part in the run down to Lanarkshire today and feel privileged to have done so. I emailed my Mum (who's in her sixties) with the link to the Sky News video. She phoned me straight away to say how tragic this news was. My Mum is not into cars, never has been, but that is just Colin through and through. The ultimate ambassador - he touched everybody, regardless of age, sex or interests. He typified everything that is great about Scotland. Of course this is not just about Colin and, obviously, Johnny. Whilst Colin is "high-profile", there are two other families grieving too and we cannot forget them. My sympathies also go to them.

Am I the only one who gets a shudder down the spine when he says "in convoy and in tribute"?

The Daily Mail mention the tributes too.

Thank you Grant for organising this. It was privilege to take part.

ML11 9AX, Hyndford Road for anyone who needs SatNav help

Count me in. Only met him once, but felt priviliged to have done so. Got any local postcodes to make things easier for the SatNav? Is that where the Motorsport show was?

Thoughts with you mate as I doubt the big man had a bigger fan.

I think we're all struggling with words right now...
-
Can only repeat what Wilky said. Lost for words and can only pray. Colin was not only a World Rally Champ, but started out in the world of Motorcycle Trials which is where I got involved in websites and why I'm here today. He was 1981 Scottish Youth Champion and there was even talk of him returning to Trials with an appearance in the Scottish Six Days Trial. If this news is true, and I still pray it's not, then Scotland has lost one of it's best sportsmen ever. A true gentleman and an ambassador for both his love of motorsport and his country.

Exactly - speculation. The Scotsman has picked up on it too, but they're saying Alister is believed to be in Australia

Sky update: Sky Correspondent James Matthews said: "My understanding is that the helicopter involved is registered to Colin McRae, the former world rally champion "He lives on an estate where this crash took place, the Jervis Wood estate just outside Lanark in the central belt of Scotland. "All police will say it that they are in touch with the family to try to establish the identity of those onboard the helicopter."

Sawreeee! I do like to keep Forums as tidy as possible. There were two threads ongoing with some folk posting in the original and others posting in the second one. This way is neater with everybody "singing off the same hymn sheet"

Having a specific user group for Scottish Scoobies Supporters was discussed a few weeks ago in this topic and seemed to be favourably looked upon. I'm pleased to advise this is now in place as an upgrade option to existing members. The upgrade cost is £10 per year, but Phil has committed that ALL monies raised by this will be returned back to the Scottish Scooby community for use to support Santa Cruise or other charity events. The only deductions will be the commissions charged by PayPal or WorldPay. Funds raised will be allocated equally across all regions running Santa Cruise events. You'll get this cool Scottish Scoobies Supporters logo under your name in place of the current Members logo. Upgrading is simple - just go to your members control panel and select Scottish Scoobies Supporter. You MUST have a current valid membership or the option won't show. After payment, you are automatically upgraded. If you don't have access to your membership control panel, log a support ticket by clicking here and I'll sort access for you. RO's - if you want to do this, contact me first as you're a bit "special"! in terms of how you're configured on the system. Thanks to 4Hero for designing the cool supporters logo and putting up with me hassling him when he was just back from holiday!

Moved topic from Events to here and merged it with the other topic created
