  1. very little between a wrx and uk turbo. i would go with uk model and you could put the difference each year towards a wee treat for it. wrx is only group 20 (old system, theres now 50 groups i believe) as it was an import not due to marginal power difference. only snag being a uk will have suffered uk weather longer and finding a tidy one is becoming very rare. if it had been choice of uk vs sti it would go the other way as you do get a better spec.
  2. As above let me pull out when i was being a complete country bumpkin and no idea of road layout. Cheers. Looked clean.
  3. I dont think quickshifts are good for synchros over time, i certainly wouldnt fit one to my car. May be wrong and some of the more technical folk may care to comment?
  4. its 304mm not much difference from std tbh. i had a godspeed red brembo kit before that was a similar setup. where the difference will show is much wider disc so more metal to take a bit more heat through repetative braking i hope. love my 16s with low weight and the two piece discs, alloy calipers will be in same vain from unsprung weight. yes, ap 4 pots with internal dust seals something i was unsure about with other kits. steel mounting brackets too as i have not been best pleased with alloy ones in the past. more importantly ive always wanted a set and am turning into a big tart.
  5. yip, dont think the discs are performance friction as stated but will be only way forward whilst keeping the 16"s.
  6. nah i disagree with most, id go blue or some other colour. think it would be too much red with the sti manifold as well.
  7. Hi, wondered if anybody registered on 22b could contact daz-22b on the forum and get an email address for him as hes selling some brakes i fancy. Thanks. Unfortunatly wont be back online till the evening.
  8. dave, as you know ive had the juddering from ds2500 pads before as well. comming from an engineering background i can understand the reasoning behind the bigger disc side. bigger discs means calipers can apply more force as they are offset more. bigger discs also means there is more metal so it will take more repetative braking to build up same amount of heat. on the other hand there is tyre traction to consider. having had a certain brake specialists kit before (calipers, two piece discs etc) i wouldnt use again, galvonic corrosion, bolts going walkies between rotor and bell etc.
  9. Pretty much the same as danterzo, paid up for first couple of years but didnt bother renewing 07 onwards. Forum was very busy with something i was attending nearly every week in summer when i was a paid up member. Im sure i saw accounts published in true grip at the time, dont personally believe the bickering over fund allocation within the club is highest priority to be addressed. Flyers to hand out at shows would be good but the likes of gazebos and trailers arent going to provide the answer imho. The splintering didnt help, rather perverse i feel, as most met through larger forum in first place. The wealth of technical knowledge i gained from here at the beginning was simply staggering, that knowledge is still here. I loved the larger meet/runs when they were more common. TBH after a tew years my enthusiasm about the club and all things subaru dwindled (gathering was good boost at the time and retail therapy only goes so far) as im sure happens to most members as lifes priorities etc change. Outside influences such as running costs of motoring will have taken their toll too. Members dont really seem to get that much benefits, as the forum is free to use. Perhaps different if you use dealership at all, but then will locked forum encourage new members... Its certainly a tough one moving forward.
  10. read most of it yesterday, brilliant!
  11. well done to those with new posts, its going to take a fair a bit to get the club back to how busy it used to be.
  12. very much doubt your re070s could do this first time with no slippage. only had a touch of snow so far, nowhere near as bad as it usually gets due too lack of wind, so no big drifts yet.
  13. ive got fairly new bosch ones on the impreza but found they built up with ice and subsequently stopped being effective. Heating was on full blast on windscreen but couldnt keep up, not ideal in blizzard. Are silicon ones or that less prone to this?
  14. closer to xmas for me too. :waving-santa:
  15. i got 205/55/16, slightly taller than subaru recommended but any increase in height, however marginal, is better as i have brand new front end. i dropped off an old scabby set of oe wheels with worn tyres at turriff tyres and left them to be fully refurbed and new tyres fitted. i was 600 all in. I could have saved a good bit off that by shopping around but i couldnt be bothered and took easy option.
  16. Thought id bump this thread after giving the tyres a good test today. Had a fair bit of snow last night on top of snow from day before that had become that wet snow stuff, the worst type i find for traction. Even took a few run ups to get the leggacy up the road in the morning with its skinny wheels on. First up i am very impressed with braking control even on b road compressed snow. Did a we test at 30 and put on the brakes hard (generally a no no) but car stopped shockingly quickly with no drama. Wont bulls****, im not into going fast or sideways with impreza in the snow as its too precious to me for that but i found i actually had to provoke car with WOT to get any slippage. I leave the fun and games for unused laybuys and carparks. Arriving home in the evening, after more snow, i found my folks have stuck the forrester on farm road but type r with dccd is tucked up safe and well in its garage without any struggle :biggrinsanta: Driving in normal wet weather i havent had the the same lack of water displacement i had experienced with a set of full blown snow tyres i had on an old impreza either. Im very impressed and am glad i decided to make the investment, money well spent imho.
  17. liking that a lot, not a tad jealous at all...
  18. how did you get on with the m1144 chris? i will never use ebc after going through a red set in 3k about five years ago and they didnt do the discs much good either. I fixed a pals car in the summer with ebc yellow and thought they were quite wooden when testing it. have also used ds2500 and m1155. the ds2500 overheated on a wet knockhill and the m1155 i used over a winter, where tbh i dont think i was generating enough heat and wasnt getting full use of them. i think a lot will depend if car is daily driver or only used for a blast?
  19. ive got hel ones on my car. came fully stainless throughout including new banjos, where as the goodridge ones you need to pay extra to get fully stainless if i remeber correctly. i got mine from hose solutions on here at good discount way after group buy had finished.
  20. welcome along. regards engine it pretty much depends on budget and how modified you want to go. the short blocks are pretty much interchangable through out the years. if you are intending track work then some early stis/ra had closed deck blocks but then newages have stronger rods. if its second hand newage take note if it had twin scroll turbo as sump is different but only needs swapping over. if you are changing for a long engine then it gets more tricky as different age heads use related manifolds. Can be done but then you have to modify wiring loom as manifold sensors vary etc. im sure some of the more technical folk will be able to answer your questions a lot better when the time comes though.
  21. Cheers lads. Having had an old uk car before that started to go shaby despite best efforts i decided that clean import was the way ahead. My intention is to keep it fairly standard and keep it in good nick, my pet hate is rust. It had already taken a hold on the uk car when i got it, prevention should be more effective than cure i hope.
  22. well i decided to tidy up the engine bay a bit as the manifold was doing the usual flaky thing. Before looked something like this: sourced a refurbed manifold, stainless bolt kit and straightened the intercooler fins etc . and it now looks like: Still work to do but thats her running and back on the road for weekend. Will be replacing header and ps tanks with powder coated items. Coolant samcos waiting to go on at same time. Overall im quite chuffed with it, although i think i would prefer a gearbox change to taking manifold off again. Also had to replace a few of the boost hoses as they had hardened up already. A wee question. Whats the better silicon intercooler hose kit for v5/6 sti. Is it the specific one for sti with alloy pipe or the uk variant y piece?
  23. lol. 5p per tank is about 3 pound, half a packet of smokes. hope your jerry cans hold a couple thousand litres. wont be bothering unless im passing by tbh. all for a saving and that but pretty insignificant. box change is easy, did 6 in 12 months by myself by hand.
  24. Not looking forward to renewal next month. That said im sure i will be cheaper than last year since the barstewards removed my ncd because of a change in car. I dont believe the hype about claims increasing in last year entirely, admiral have just posted pre tax profit increase of 21%.
