  1. the set of eibachs i had on a classic were fine, no clunks etc as they only lowered a little bit so were fine with oem struts. you might want to put on a section of coil wrap on the fronts for corrosion protection. rears came with plastic sleeve already on nearest wound coils and rear struts have rubber spacer on strut collar. if i was doing it again i would add a bit of coil wrap too lowest run of front springs where they may rub against strut collar. how old are struts? ive twice renewed stuts all round on subarus ive bought second hand and its been very rewarding.
  2. yes. dot 3,dot 4, dot 5.1 are same fluid type but with higher boiling points up the range. ive always used 5.1 personally. just under no circumstances use mineral or silicon (dot 5).
  3. roost roost and mare roost. thats what will cost in the long term and old classics are starting to show signs if not looked after. dont believe those that say its only a few hundred notes to touch up etc. it will need cutting out and done properly it costs. any mechanicals that are tired wont be too hard to replace as there are loads of spares and new bits avaliable.
  4. nae rain here. second bbq this afternoon. the heat will hopefully dry up the impreza boot after a few beer casualties were inflicted on drive home from the shops.
  5. big thanks to alan for reading my ecu today when i dropped in past unannounced. cel hasnt flashed again but will get new sensor just to be sure. cheers min. ps. bbq at Rrrrallye ?
  6. love too but dont think its fair on the old man. can always throw a tent in the boot on the day if its quiet.
  7. my god, your inlaws are individually worse than me and alan combined for breaking stuff
  8. theres a few in aberdeen itself, alford, keith, elgin and the broch i think. keith would be best bet. theres nae a shell it turriff ony mare.
  9. hmm... its all very strange. cars first registered in the uk sept 07. so the rules say its £405 as emissions on v5 are 326g/km*. i did check this to avoid being over taxed. this is what renewal came threw as and i paid at beginning of this month. just been on dvla site and entered reg and v5 ref number and it now says £245 for 12 months due 4/2011, i did check end of last year and it was definatly £405 due 4/2010. i will check we them up the morns night as their shut now. *it was sva`d but i have no idea how it went through as there is no model report for v6 type r and car was less than 10 years old then.
  10. yip, its registered after march 2007. im glad it never blew out on the way home tbh. ive had this happen once before on different car but its not driven the same. over the last fortnight had to replace front hub of legacy, rear hub+long bolt on forester and just had to order wheel bearing for car trailer too.
  11. seperate and there sided if i remeber right. no surprise they go given thickness, i clarted everything with underseal on reassembly.
  12. very common, my old scoobs one was in similar state along with front and brackets behind bumper to secure foglights.
  13. well paid the 405 quid last week went out a spin and this is what you end up with: nae fussed about tyre as i have spare set of new pirellis to go on. just strikes me as we tad dangerous.
  14. cheers. was told there was methanol avaliable but the e85 must have been what they meant. will have a search to find out about it.
  15. a wee birdy told me last week that methonal is avaliable at a garage pump in dundee. any truth in this?
  16. admiral here too fully comp. the type r was new purchase so i didnt technically have any no claims to use for it. admiral worked out cheaper, with 0ncb, than any other quotes i obtained with ncb switched over from uk turbo. they divide up cost so you can see what preportion is attributed to each car as well. the uk turbo was 300 which wasnt too unreasonable either, especially with a write off a few years ago and penalty points.
  17. the plate just above front sub frame maybe? havent had bother with it before but only thing that i can think of, or possibly two dowels on one side if different box. taking the mount for pitch stopper helps as it can be quite close to bulkhead/clutch fluid line.
  18. very good alan, aboot time. my wheels are fairly chipped with state of roads recently so a wise move there, keeping them off.
  19. plenty in keith filled up twice yesterday and once more today
  20. been a while since ive been to crail. might give the standard classic a whizz up the strip, but wont be competing in any shoot out.
  21. got a wave from 4 door blue classic with high level spoiler. dont think its anyone from here though, unless their lurking?
  22. aye, you got a good bargain there. i was half tempted but have a few too many as is. is it no a v5 though? as rear spolier has have the raised lip or the v6 splitter which may have been lost in its past. dont think theres much difference anyway apart from slightly longer 5th.
  23. when my uj went it was more a notchy feeling rather than stiff through out IYKWIM. revs didnt make any difference, although when i had it removed it was near enough siezed on one axis. racks not to bad to replace but getting the two pipes back on to the correct thread is a fiddle with the odd sweary word. theres also the internal mesh filters on pump, i had one of these come loose on a classic. best first check would be the belt though
