Check your anti freeze, replace worn or damaged wiper blades, stock up on de-icer and make sure that your screen wash is strong enough to cope with frosty conditions. Adjust your speed according to the road and weather conditions; there will be times when the speed limit will be too fast. Stopping distances increase considerably in frosty or wet weather. Look further ahead than usual and allow for the extra time needed to stop. Always ensure windows, lights and mirrors are clear of dirt before setting off. “ For further information about driving in bad weather visit : http://trafficscotland.org/media/badweatherleaflet.pdf All our camera sites have a proven history of collisions and evidence of speeding vehicles. 7. The Litchfield came with a Miltek fitted and when you give a few revs it sounds great and it's not too loud when you're in cruise mode. No idea of the price though.
  8. I was hoping to sort one out for later this month. I'll have to see though, i'm away for week from next friday the week after i've got my kids and possibly overtime at work. As an added bonus the long range forecast is saying a nice cold snap is on the way at the end of the month with lots of snow. If a drive out isn't an option at this time of the year i might just organise a meet at the Shepherds Rest in Westhill so we can at least have a get together and a natter.

Issue: 2nd October 2012 Use: Northern Safety Camera Partnership deployment intentions w/c 1 October 2012 Northern Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Dougie Bennion, said: “This week the Partnership is flagging up the importance of maintaining stopping distances because it has been identified through the lens of the cameras that it is a continuing concern. “Stopping distances preserve the space required between vehicles to allow drivers to stop safely if required and the recommended stopping distances should be at least doubled on wet roads. Remember, only a fool breaks the 2 second rule.” Road Safety Scotland website ‘Get in Lane’ contains information and a driving game related to the ‘2 Second Rule’:- Watch the vehicle in front of you pass a landmark - such as a sign or tree at the side of the road. As it passes the landmark, start counting “one thousand and one, one thousand and two” or say “only a fool breaks the two-second rule”. If you pass the landmark before you finish saying all eight words, you are following too closely. Slow down, pick another landmark and repeat the words, to make sure you have increased your following distance. The good thing about the ‘2-second rule’ is it ensures you keep the correct following distance, no matter what speed you are travelling at. When towing a trailer or the road surface is wet or slippery, increase your following distance by counting out to 4 seconds. 16. NSCP deployment intentions for w/c 10 September 2012 This week Northern Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Dougie Bennion raises awareness about the benefits of eco-driving. “Did you know that you could save around 15% off your fuel costs by following the top ten driving tips recommended by the Energy Saving Trust?:- 1. Shift to a higher gear as soon as possible Driving at lower engine speeds reduces fuel consumption. Change up between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm. 2. Anticipate road conditions and drive more smoothly Rather than last minute braking, decelerate smoothly by easing off the accelerator as early as possible. This allows the car to decelerate using engine braking. With the car in gear and the accelerator released, a modern car uses virtually no fuel at all. This form of braking is also gentler on the car and its occupants. 3. Maintain a steady speed in as high a gear as possible Driving at a steady speed requires little effort for the engine. Avoiding unnecessary acceleration and heavy braking helps reduce your fuel consumption. 4. Drive a little slower Stick to the speed limits and make your fuel go further. For most cars the most efficient speed is 45-50 mph. The faster you go above this, the more fuel you will use. Driving at 50mph rather than 70mph reduces your fuel consumption by 10% at a stroke. 5. Switch off if you’re stationary for more than a minute When stuck in traffic or waiting for someone, switch off your engine. Switching off whenever it’s safe to do so can soon lead to significant savings. 6. Keep your tyres properly inflated Under-inflated tyres not only lead to poor road holding but also cause excessive drag and resistance, increasing fuel consumption. Both over and under-inflated tyres can be dangerous to road holding, so make sure your tyres are at their recommended pressure. 7. Switch off air conditioning Use air conditioning sparingly as your engine has to work harder to power the air conditioning machinery. If driving at low speed, open the window instead. 8. Close your windows if travelling at 50mph or more The aerodynamic drag on your car of an open window at speeds of 50mph or more adds to your fuel usage. Keep your windows closed at high speeds. 9. Remove roof boxes and racks if not being used Car designers try hard to make their vehicles as aerodynamic as possible. Adding a roof box or rack spoils this by increasing drag on your car, making your engine work harder and increases fuel usage. 10. Remove unnecessary items Carrying excess weight in a vehicle increases fuel consumption. Heavy or large items, such as tool kits and golf clubs should be removed when not required.” (Source: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/scotland/Transport/Consumer/Vehicle-efficiency) Northern Safety Camera Partnership deployment intentions for week commencing 10.09.12 Caithness and Sutherland A9 south of the Mound, by Golspie A949 Evelix Road, Dornoch Ross & Cromarty A9 Fearn, by Tain A835 Inverlael Straight, near Ullapool A834 Strathpeffer Road, Dingwall Inverness A9 Daviot, by Inverness A82 Alltsigh Youth Hostel, by Invermoriston Badenoch, Strathspey & Nairnshire A95 Congash, by Grantown on Spey A95 north of Cromdale A95 Drumullie, by Boat of Garten A95 Congash, by Grantown on Spey A9 near Dalwhinnie A9 north of Dalwhinnie A9 Cuaich, by Dalwhinnie A86 Kingussie to Newtonmore Lochaber A82 White Corries, Rannoch Moor A82 Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe *Please note that the deployment schedule may be subject to change according to operational priorities and weather conditions.
