About Smiler AS

  1. Will do. First weekend, got one side polished and waxed, still to do front, back and passenger side. Also picked up a few second hand bits this weekend too. Quite fancy updating front bumper to facelift too.
  2. Does anyone want to swap a leather interior (very good nick) for black and grey UK turbo interior? Also, anyone want to swap Prodrives as above, 17's with all round very good recent Goofyear Eagle F1's? The Prodrives are straight but corroded and need a refurb. And Im not keen on 17's on a classic. Im looking for std. 16's (5 spoke & silver), not fussed about tyres or if anyone has any for sale?
  3. Ah, yeh. Looking back now, that looks a little dodgy!
  4. Well after selling up the wagon last year due to new job Ive bought a cheap classic as a toy / runabout. 1998 S reg only 51K, 2 owners since new with last guy having owned it since 2001. New brake pads, discs, pipes and calipers. Recent 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. Leather interior - although im still unsure on it, might do a swap if anyone wants to. Alloys (Prodrive) could do with a refurb though. Goes very smooth for a 14 year old. Surprisingly little lag.
  5. Still live same place but new job in Inverness, had to get a diesel, went for Auris sr180, not a bad wee machine but fancy a classic scooby to play with again. Maybe being a bit too picky, but a face lifted classic preferred.
  6. Well didnt last long, looking to get back into the fold with a cheap classic wagon, maybe a bugeye at a push. Does anyone know anything about this one? Tasteful mods, although would be looking for OEM 5 spoke 16" alloys. Trying to get up and see it. http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/impreza-wagon/91729801
  7. Redlines for me (even though mine are kinda similar to the tarmacs) Just a point worth mentioning, you going for 17s or 18's? Only reason being is that when I lowered my wagon and put 18's on, offset had to be spot on (as the wagons dont have the flared arches) hence the P1 alloys fitted - everything was close, especially tyres to the shocks. Il chuck on a pic too...
  8. Looks good! Like the new splitter too. Il have to stick my Evo style black though, just not the same choice of splitters for hawkeyes, especially wagons with the slightly narrower dimensions.
  9. No problem, remember to give the solenoid and pipes and clean / soaking too. Dont worry about being shy with the cleaner, I did it twice, think I didnt put enough in 1st time, it just evaporates anyway. Think the long term solution is to get breather pipe / oil catch cans, Im quite impressed with the Hyperflow ones.
  10. Yep, had exactly the same problem last weekend on my hawkeye. The 2.5's are greedy on the oil or more so on breathing oil vapour, what I have just learned from others is not to fill the oil up to full / max level on the dipstick, keep it between half and 2/3 on the dipstick level. This allows the breather pipes to work away without getting too clogged. I had my oil filled up to max and was causing a bit of havic including the boost solenoid. So take a little oil out (ive got a suction pump with long thin tube I can fit down the oil dipstick tube - allows me ti finely adjust oil level) and give the boost solenoid a good clean with electrical cleaner, few quid for halfords, also sprayed some brake cleaner down the two pipes that connect to the solenoid - you will be shocked how much dirt/ grim/gunk will come out the solenoid when you give it a shake after soaking it with the cleaner. Felt 100 times smoother as soon as i went out. Good luck.
  11. Does it feel a bit jumpy/ stuttery when coming on boost 2-2.5k revs? Kinda hesitates a little then boost comes on when you pull above 2.5k revs?
  12. I must be getting old, as daft as it sounds, nice car but too low for everyday use with my job. And the legacy needs to be low to look good. Ive got a Rav for kicking about in but looking to go to one car. Fozzy seems to fit the bill at the moment - just need to get used to the box look! The Kuga 2.5T is always at the back of my mind too, but would need a bit of tweaking done to get the best out of the engine. As far as I know its detuned Focus ST engine, possibly still the same turbo though which would make life easier to get the figures up.
  13. After the meet today in elgin and discussing new cars, Ive to change my car in November latest to keep within the work rules (4 years old). Sometimes look at the hatches and yes and sometime no. With revisions averaging out 2-3 years, bugeye, blobeye, hawkeye - dont suppose any one knows if any revised Impreza or facelift or anything coming up at end of this year or next year to help persuade myself to stick with an Impreza? Ive even half convinced myself of a Forester! eeek!
  14. My ignorance on early classics, do they still throw CEL lights and engine codes? Is there a CEL light on?
  15. Yeh, airline hose came to mind straight away, unfortunately dont have one at home though - although the missus does blow a load of hot air a lot!
