The perfromance pads generally need a bit more heat in them to get them working 100% but this is hardly noticeable. Yes, the Ferodo pads are harder on the disks than the standard pads, but unless you are going nuts with them, you'd hardly notice the difference. I have used the DS2500 on track and on road with standard 4-pots, with no issues. On my first track day in the wet when things are cooler, I heat damaged the standard pads, but the DS2500s lasted me for ages with several track days. I am currently using Performance Friction fronts in my Brembos, and again, no issues. I'd probably recommend performance pads if you were going to enjoy some spirited driving on occaision.
