In the interests of fairness I feel I should point out that he skidded on ice, which you omitted from your "rant".
He was also sentenced on Friday, not today.
Whilst the loss of any life is tragic I think it's important to realise that this man did not deliberatley drive his car into these people. He skidded on ice.
Yes, his tyres were below the legal limit but the whole point of driving about with tread on our tyres is to disperse water - otherwise we would all be driving about on slicks.
So I don't think his tyres would make any difference if he is gliding over ice, and it would appear that is also the opinion of the police accident investigators.
Of course, if one of my loved ones had perished in similar circumstances I would want the man's head on a stick (probably) but I think this man was fairly sentenced for his crime.
Perhaps the relatives should be looking at taking action against the local highways department for failing to grit the road, but I am not in possesion of the full facts behind this crash. It is also worth noting that this man's speed has not been mentioned in anyof the reports i've seen so that probably wasn't a factor.
