About oobster

  1. Kenny, There is a company just off the Edinburgh Bypass that specialises in car storage, I have used them quite a few times. I know it's not exactly central, but using this company might give you piece of mind that your car is safe while you are away. http://www.carstoragescotland.co.uk/storage.htm Mark Spiers is the guy you need to speak to if you decide to phone up. It's not eaxctly cheap, but then anything good these days isn't.
  2. Congratulations! Hope you get sorted soon Grant.
  3. Would a Skoda owner be welcomed at a E & L meet Gus, or would I be shunned like a leper & be made to sit in a darkened corner until I come to my senses & trade the Skoda in for something burbly?
  4. Aye I thought that, but didn't know how to get hold of him! Is he still around/on SIDC?
  5. Hullo chaps. Would any of you know of a company or individual who could apply some of that clear paint protection film (ventureshield/defendall) on a section of car bodywork? Ideally within in the Edinburgh/Glasgow/Falkirk/West Lothian area. I know there used to be a mob in Ratho that did this, but apparently they are no longer there. The piece of bodywork I want protected is not currently attached to the car and is fairly small in size (front grille). Cheers!
  6. Was asking Stevie Walker the other day if he'd heard from you recently Chris, I said I hadn't spotted you on the forum for a while.
  7. Well, the Mrs (who works for the RBS) had the dreaded "your job is at risk" meeting today so I am going to have to put the plans for a return to Subaru ownership back onto the back burner again for a while. Gav - cheers for the info via PM - will be in touch again in the future if money/circumstances allow.
  8. I did indeed Gav, just debating the car with the wife just now. Must admit, I had forgotten about the £415pa road tax - not a huge deal breaker for me but still, it's another add into the 'no' column! Tried calling you on Friday, about 5:20pm, but you were with a customer, and I didn't get the chance to call back. Will be in touch in the next couple of days if I plan to nip down for a look at the car though. It's a cracking-looking car though.
  9. Mmm. As you know I had the KEI Force 10's on my old Scoob, in 18" though. Mine were Hypersilver. Can't say I am loving these ones on your car Steve, they just look a bit too "bright". Are you sure they are Hyperblack? Will need to have a decent look "in the flesh" to form a proper opinion though.
  10. Hello lads. I am considering returning to Subaru ownership after 2 years away. The car below, which is for sale at a Scottish main dealer, has interested me and I wondered if you happy chaps would give me your opinions, especially if anyone knows the actual car and how it was looked after by previous owner(s). Car is for sale at £11,645. Done nearly 28K miles, got leather interior, tinted rear windows and 18" OZ anthracite alloys on it. Not been to see it yet, I am off work till Thursday next week so I might nip down over the next few days. So - thoughts, opinions, any comments on limitations on modifying wagons (springs? exhaust? - are they different?) appreciated. Oh, and if I do buy it, that STI badge on the front grille will be the first mod - straight in the bin! Cheers, Andy
  11. I had a Pace Sky+ box connected to my 42" LCD via Scart. I then got a Samsung HD box connected to the same TV through HDMI. I would say that the SD picture is slightly worse through HDMI - noticeable on the day I switched boxes but soon forgotten about.
  12. Yes, definitely get Sky HD. However, you might want to do a bit of research into the box manufacturers. There is Pace, Thomson, Amstrad and Samsung. I've had my Sjy HD for a year now and things will probably have changed since then but when I was looking to order HD the boxes to get were Pace and Samsung. I even heard it suggested that when the engineer calls you in the morning to give you a rough time for the install later that day you should tell him not to bother if he's only got Amstrad and Thomson boxes on the van. As I say, things change so this may no longer be the case. I have a samsung box and it's been reasonably ok. Not perfect, but not bad enough to make me want to take a hammer to it. Remember as well it's not just the picture thats better, the sound is too so you only really get the benefit (in my opinion) if you have a decent surround sound setup attached to your telly/amp. Some HD channels are a bit hit-and-miss quality-wise too. The english premiership games on Sky are pretty good, as is the Discovery HD channels. BBC HD is pretty good too. If only they showed the Formula 1 coverage was in HD!
  13. You might, if you can travel through to West Lothian, give Andy at Magma a try. Been using him for years, every car i've owned in the last 12 years have had tints. He's based in Pumpherston, near Uphall. His number is 01506 440 144
