Guages.......................hwat Do I Need To Know?
pmacFTO replied to spannaz's topic in South East England
The only thing to know is that they will generate large amounts of paranoia over a short space of time -
Fantastic m8 - I love the Hawkeye on the newage models - black looks great too - it's amazing what adding that little splitter on can do for the looks!
-
I thought that but the bloody local garage I went to said I'd need to change the oil! Was just a young guy...they prob get told to say that. Well, I'll def try that first! Cheers m8 Hmm...just called Kwik Fit and they won't change the filter without changing oil...even tho I told them I just put 3l of fresh oil in and just want filter done. Feckers lol
-
No m8 - that was suggested and I may do it now but all this happened just after I had put 3 litres of Millers finest in so I didn't want to change the filter and pay for oil again! It's had a service in the last 3-6 months and had a new filter then.

Just wondering if there is anything else I can check for the cause of my high oil pressure before I get Hypertech to fit a new oil pump, assuming the pressure relief valve is blocked, it seems pretty common. The pressure my racetech gauge was showing has been confirmed correct by a calibrated mechanical gauge so I can rule out the gauge malfunctioning!

Highly recommend Marc at The Garage - he knows his stuff m8. Always taken my cars to him. He's pretty well known in the Jap car scene too. Tell him pmacFTO sent you -
lol - that was the perfect icebreaker m8! should have asked her to go for a drink she prob would have agreed - "So how did you two meet?" - best story ever We get posts on the FTO Owner's Club all the time about this as the seatbelt has a habit of wrapping round the handle to push the seats forward for someone to get in the back - problem is they are spring loaded and pretty strong so they can push you forward into your steering wheel! If you are leaning back in them (to get money or phone out your pocket) they fly backwards too.

Probably as quiet as a standard Scooby tbh - anyone in a "quick" car could noise u up wanting a wee race - even other Scooby drivers do it to me sometimes. I get Vectras so close I can't see their headlights in my rear view mirror sometimes (not for long admittedly ) - if you have a car like we do people always want to prove a point
-
Sorry to be boring and interrupt the banter I suppose it's best to get one of the standard oil pumps which have the PRV modded to stop it sticking again? The car is only 300bhp and lightly modded so I don't think I need an uprated pump yet
-
I use it occasionally to get the heavy crap off then go home and go back over it all with the 2 bucket method and do wheels, arches etc

Had to say a very public ta very much to Neil for coming through and testing my Oil Pressure! It turns out my gauge IS working and so looks like I need a new Oil pump. Was sitting at 90-100psi after it was warmed up so Pressure Relief Valve must be gone! At least I know now...next thing is to find a replacement...any info appreciated - will be calling the usual suspects tomorrow! Thanks again Neil - I learned some interesting phrases today too!

I have the same Hella horn that you have there - Al took it off the car when he was selling but I bought them back from him - still in the garage!! lol I'm not keen on messing with wiring in cars - thing is - they have been fitted before so it's probably easy!
-
I always use the place in Bathgate which does a full foam and then hoses it off - never had any problems in the 4-5 years I have been going - either with the FTO or the Scooby. Sponges scratch paintwork! They also have a branch in Edinburgh near the big Asda on the A70 - the road that goes to Juniper Green/Currie etc
-
Mine is the same, daily driver, 300bhp - I just got Godspeed discs and Mintex Extreme - I had Mintex 1144 (or is it 1155?) on b4 but was advised these Extreme would be better. Not got them fitted yet but it's on my to-do list If I had a bit extra cash I would have got the Ferrodo DS2500 - had them on the FTO and they were amazing - now I find out you can get them for the scooby! Def worth a look and you will notice some difference.

cheers Neil - goat trotting it's way to you

thx for the info m8 I really need to take the car to work as the wife needs the Scenic for the nursery/playgroup runs! I have just been taking it easy but that's boring in a 300bhp car Anything I can watch out for to get signs of the pressure being too high? Should I see anything under the car if I jack it up and look around after a run?
-
Cool m8, would I be able to do that sometime? It's all about peace of mind!

Where is it? I think that's my first port of call in diagnosing my high oil pressure issues. Coming home today after work my gauge was off the scale at 100+. Stayed there when driving till the car got a bit warmer and it fell to about 80 - it seems to be idling at about 60. The garage I got the fill up in said there may be oil leaking down to the clutch plate so it could be the rear crank seal or something (sorry, I do computers, not cars!). How could I check my gauge (Racetech 52mm one)? (Not sure if it is electrical or mechanical - I'll have a look) How can I check Oil pressure without that gauge? Also, if clutch plates get oil on them could it cause them to not operate correctly and make the clutch feel as if it was on its way out? It has always had a high bite point but I was told recently it's needing replaced - thing is I don't think it is that old - it's an Exedy organic one fitted by the previous owner and I know the car was not ragged by him. TIA for any ideas

Well after a nervous drive to Newcastle, a toddle round Holland, and a much less nervous drive back today I can say the car is fine so far! I have it booked in to get looked at so we'll see what happens
-
It's about 60 on idle warm and going up to 80-100 when driving. Called Duncan for some advice so just seeing what the consensus is. Just checked the oil but it's at F on the stick and not overfilled which Hypertech said to make sure of. I'm sure it's always about 80 but it may just be a faulty sender?
-
Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I have just been to get some oil from Extreme in Whitburn and they warned me not to take my car to Holland (leaving in 2 hrs ) The oil pressure gauge (Racetech one) is reading 60lb on idle and going up to 100lb when driving normally. I've organised breakdown cover and extra travel insurance etc for the car now and I'm gonna have to take our other car which currently has a binding brake at the rear Is that pressure too high - I'm sure it always sits at about 80...temp is fine. The car did take 3L of oil tho! So something must not be right.

btw - what torque should the nuts be done up to? I am gonna buy a torque wrench so they don't get overtightened.
