  1. She was not keen to take my car in this weather m8 - I have told her a few times
  2. We just got back - it was solid ice and the car was miles from anywhere at a dog walking place! Got it out in 3 mins lol - no towing! Just put de-icer on the tires and just used the clutch to go very slowly and it got grip then we reversed it a bit and took a run up...job done
  3. Cheers - just as I thought It's in an empty office carpark - closed for the holidays. I've already been there and had enough grip altho it's got colder tonight and more icy (snow is hard outside). Just waiting on my mate coming with the tow rope
  4. My wife's Scenic is stuck up the road where we walk the dogs and we have tried a few options but to no avail as it's solid ice and only one wheel is spinning! I am gonna go back with the scoob and tow it. There is a towing hook in the boot according to the manual and I can attach it to the front or back of the car. So what I want to know is, should I pull it in Lo (I have the dual range lever) and have you guys any other tips One thing which helped a bit was a tip about just using the clutch and not using the accelerator at all to just turn the wheels and no more (on her car - not mine) whilst pushing it and getting it rocking a bit... Should I do it in 1st or 2nd - Hi or Lo. I'm guessing 1st and in Lo as it should gain more traction. Cheers!
  5. Was it ever in the dictionary? It's Gullible.
  6. Same here - neighbours Audi had to be pushed back off the road and on to the pavement as we couldn't get it forward or back into his drive I have had no probs in the new wagon There is currently a Focus stuck out there just now and it's going nowhere! I may go for a drive just to show off btw - my new GX has a Hi/Lo lever for the 4WD - what happens when it goes to lo. I know lo is for low speed but what does it actually do to the car and how does that make it respond differently?
  7. If they are adding mechanical work they will be quoting based on top dollar main dealer prices and you'll find that a lot of things can be uprated for less than main dealers OEM parts! But, buying it back is a good option if you get quotes for 2-3k to sort it and they give you a decent whack more than that back.
  8. afaik from looking on various forums over the years you CAN go to your own repairer if you can confirm an agreed quote from them - their ones are only recommended - not required. If you get a quote from somewhere like Steve Walker Bodyshop in West Calder I think you'll find it will NOT be 6.5k - that's a ridiculous quote. I have been on the FTOOC for about 7yrs and there is a LOT of them being told their car is a write off but there is one repairer who has been fixing FTOs as long as I can remember and he deals with the insurance companies and gives them much more realistic quotes and has saved a huge amount of owners from losing their P&J - most have ended up even better Good luck with it all!
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY8YjvXQz20 Obviously fake but funny nonetheless
  10. I had all the cats removed on my 2003 WRX and it had the magnex on - it was loud! I swwapped just the backbox for a standard STi and it felt the same power but made NO noise! I then got a Prodrive and it was just the right amount so I'd recommend that if you want to keep the burble but get rid of the overbearing volume.
  11. My cat was sitting next to the xmas decoration so I just had to grab a pic for my Daughter to see before school in the morning
  12. Excellent Gratz to you two. You are no longer a couple but a family Very apt (and lovely) name for this time of year

  15. Look after it Looks much better now the front has been repaired at last I am gonna need to sell the 15"s you gave me (nice tyres too - those Pirelli P6000 are cracking!) as both the fronts on the GX need replaced! Gonna get all the other goodies on asap tho Car feels nice - but having no turbo is gonna take me time to get used to! lol

  20. I'll be there too - my son will love that and I'll bring the camera gear too
  21. The Ferrodos are one of the best anyway - match them up with a set of good disks (I used Godspeed ones) and you're gonna be fine - depends how hard you drive and brake tho!
  22. Cheers m8 - but read my first sentence Thx for your info tho - I just love talking tech!
  23. Aye got TinyXP and it's great for speed - the reason I want to try a Linux Distro is sometimes the video stutters and it's a pretty bare install of XP anyway - so I was going to try a real barebones OS to see if it's Windows or a hardware issue.
  24. Looking for something like DamnSmallLinux or similar to run on my laptop - the only thing we use it for is playing movies on the TV so it must be able to run a VLC type media player. There are so many diff flavours and I dunno where to start. I am very techy and have no probs with command line stuff and editing files to get things working as I grew up in the DOS era of PCs Just looking for some ones to try that are user friendly for wife to be able to load movies up I don't mind installing an OS but if I could run one from USB or CD that would be cool - esp. if I could leave Windows on for any future use altho I install XP Black Edition usually so it takes no time at all to do a fresh install. Thx in advance
  25. I'll 2nd GetDataBack - get the demo and run it to see if it's gonna get the folder you want - if it does it's worth buying.
