lol - well, no. Mainly cos I am worried something else goes wrong and I don't have the car for tomorrow!! lol We got the other nuts off ok and I also bought a pile of spares. Spaceman reckons the brakes are absolutely fine for the trip. Just got a text from Irish Al offering to help too! I think I may loosen the passengers side and if that goes ok I'll do the discs and pads. Just in work just now finishing off the 2009 FTO Owner's Club calendar but heading home soon Thanks all for the help and offers - especially Spaceman for Saturdays help I'm very impressed with the Scottish Scoobies community today (more so than normal of course!)

morning all - aye the guy thru in Falkirk did the job - dropped the car off, went for a walk, he called me after 20 mins and I picked it back up. He welded a bar onto the side of it then got it off that way. Charged £30 & saved me a lot of hassle so it was worth it Handy place to know for future reference. They are called MVS and are in Middleside Industrial Estate - but they are not on the ind. estate map and don't have a name above the door lol - just had to ask about. I'll check on an online map and try to pinpoint it for anyone who may need it in future.
-
Well they didn't remove the nut - or offer to - they gave me very quick directions to a place in an Industrial estate which I almost never found! He is gonna charge £30-50 to remove it - needs to weld a bar on it then let it cool and try to get it off that way.. I just can't risk taking it as it is to Europe with my family in the car! Getting a puncture whilst abroad would be a nightmare. Still gonna take some tyre weld tho - or whatever that stuff is called
-
Thx to Greig for coming to help me Just on my way to Skidz as they are gonna have to remove the nut and I need new ones now anyway!
-
done m8 - very much appreciated!
-
Fallen at the first hurdle! Cheap nuts then They came with the wheels - new. Ok, how do I get that out? And can I drive with it at all - I may just go up to KwikFit and ask them to fit new nuts now

Gonna pop up to the motor factors and get some copper grease too - I presume I should put that on the caliper bolts? What about the back of the pads? I spotted this guide: Changing Pads. Do the pads on my newage (it's 4 pot brakes) have those backing plates shown? I know it will be straightforward when I go to do it but I like to be prepared heh.
-
I'll be at it first thing in the morning - it was just if I get stuck or shear a bolt or something else I can't sort lol. I have the workshop manual and have the section looked out on how to do the pads (which look simple - pretty much the same as the FTO) but it was just getting the discs off that I was concerned about. I can follow guides ok, it's when I hit problems I'm not always sure how best to proceed! Also - do I just spray the new discs with engine degreaser (not got brake fluid cleaner) to clean the lubricant off them? Do I need to do anything to the pads as best practice?

I am taking the Scooby to Holland on Monday and need to change the brake discs and pads on the front of the car but was wondering if anyone local to me is able to give me a hand? I can't get a garage to do it in time and don't mind giving it a go myself (I used to do my FTO ones) but I am worried in case something goes wrong and the car is not ready for Mondays drive to the Ferry in Newcastle! Cue one unhappy wife and kids! Anyone who is willing to help for a small fee if I get stuck? I'll be giving it a go tomorrow but may need someone at the weekend if I run into problems. In return I can help with any PC problems! (15 yrs experience fixing them feckers!). It may be a bit cheeky but I just thought I'd ask! I live in Livingston.

Cool - thanks for the info guys.

I am rushing round trying to sort out a ferry trip to Holland and read I need to disable the car alarm for the crossing. I think it is still the standard one (03 WRX) and I probably do have the manual in the house but I thought I would just ask on here how to do it! Also - anyone crossed using the ferry at Newcastle? My car is not stupidly low but I just wondered if there is any issues getting on the ferry.

That was the epitomy of "Ah well, sh*t happens" How laid back was he! lol
-
They really suit the car Very nice indeed
-
Ah cool - well my bank is the RBS in Newbridge so watch out for a WR Blue WRX with white wheels near pay day and you'll know it's me lol. Marc really knows his stuff I'm sure he'll know the answer. He's moved into a nice big new premises in Motherwell now with some cracking kit.

m8, try give Dunc a call at Hypertech or Marc at The Garage in Wishaw - I'm sure both ofthem will have good knowledge they can share with you about the conversion. Where are you in West Lothian? I am Livingston but work in Broxburn - seen on the A89 most mornings and nights
-
nice pics m8y I did a similar shot on the A89 a while back - light trails always look cool Excellent processing too, more to the point.

Surely the mapping would make a difference - i.e a car mapped for lower end power but just under the power of a higher range which is either not mapped or not mapped very well, could make the results skewed? Also it would depend on the torque of the various vehicles. Just a thought but the basic principle would be interesting as a non-scientific experiment

oilman is on ALL the car forums I frequent :waving-santa:

RS4 or RS6 are my dream sleeper car Not many will noise you up in an Audi anyway but even if they do the chances are you'll blow them away - in an estate! I'd love one. Practical but blindingly quick and 4wd to boot.

Glad I could help m8

Dunno if it helps but I got a genuine Subaru lambda sensor for half the dealer price from a breakers recommended on here and SN. They may be able to supply you one a bit cheaper? http://www.japperformanceparts.co.uk/ HTH

I own 2 cats and one also sits on my bonnet and the roof but I have to say there are no scratch marks on the car. A cat wouldn't need its claws to jump up the small height to a bonnet IMHO - but I can only compare my cat and go by my own experience. I am not denying yours was caused by a cat's claws - more surprised. The ones round your area may be tougher and have big claws Mine is a big softy.
-
Well, could you not have tried some other method first? Owners can't tell cats what to do - they do what they want - there are products you can get to kee them away and a few other methods are mentioned here. You now just cost the owners a minimum of £40 to see the vet and probably more to remove the pellet - my wife is a vet nurse and sees this a lot. There's not much chance a cat's claws can scratch paintwork so much it can't be hand polished out. I also would guess that what you did is indeed a crime and altho I can understand the frustration at the cat/cats, shooting them is shocking. We have 2 cats and I can't imagine how distraught my 4yr old would be if one of them ended up going to the vets after being shot. Really not on m8.
