  1. that explains it then, obviously it died in shock of being driven cannily this mean youve finally found something you cant fix with an angle grinder and baler twine min? on the plus side its still been off the road for less time than rich's
  2. didnt get any pics today but it looks like the pics polished bliss have on their page of the black hummer with heavy swirling. am so annoyed about it,so called proffesional valeters!! get my stuff from th guys at pb already dale,so looks like i may be handing over some more money to them for a machine polisher! thanks for the offer Al but i think im down here for a bit-if im up with the car il give you a shout, you ca use it as a practice car if blue dragon or any of the other guys down this way who do such amazing jobs want to drop me a note with a price id be grateful!
  3. better with the brows but do they let enough of your indicators be seen? god i sound old!!!
  4. the other halfs integra was in for a service today and the garage had it valeted whilst it was there unbknown to us. just had a look at it in the garage under lights and the whole things covered in swirl marks-it wasnt perfect before but it was a hell of a lot better as i did it a few weeks ago with clay bar and jeff werkstat acrylic kit. its pretty much all surface marks but its the whole of the car never having used an aggressive clay and machine polish before,is it worth tackling myself or better to get a pro? and if so any volunteers in the central belt?
  5. that is exactly how an impreza should be Paul, top marks!! nooooo, the classics are pulling me back....
  6. heading over on friday night to catch the rally- all weekend long and night stages, who says they dont make them like they used to! unfortunately no scoob as its awaiting a 'special' mot
  7. i would say youve got a handful of options- try what i did, insisting on written assurance that the remaining struts are safe and that the handling wont be affected buy your own either original or aftermarket have the 2 replaced wait 2 months have the other 2 replaced, repeat until warranty expires contact what car, citizens advice etc and try to shame them into doing the right thing having done option a once with success i cant be bothered with the hassle and have decided to try a set of the apex coilovers on snet. o and for the record last time i was told that it wasnt a common fault and that theyd never had another case of it, but the new struts were an improved design and it definitely wouldnt happen again. i love these cars but ever get the feeling your being taken for a mug?
  8. ask them(garage or subaru) for WRITTEN confirmation that the other two are fully functional and that the car is safe to drive with one side replaced, which you will then get checked by an independent engineer. this is shocking treatment but the same i got-i wouldnt replace one strut on my wee van never mind a high performance car!!
  9. i guess if they admit theres a problem and offer an alternative they couldnt afford it! they bank on us getting fed up and buying decent kit ourselves-as im about to do. though that pothole at 90 on the way to aberfeldy on sat morning certainly didnt help lol!
  10. few from me at errochty on my wee pocket camera, didnt tkae that many as i left that to the other halfs brother (jongleurs) who'l be along with his in a bit im sure http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages109.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages110.jpg no one wanted in this pic! http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages123.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages113.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages115.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages100.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages107.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/sco...aestages138.jpg
  11. think youl find over here we call them buttries, seperate entity entirely
  12. had enough trouble getting them to replace them at all, only wanted to do the rears and told me there was no known problem! had to ask for written confirmaion that the fronts were ok which i would take to an independent suspension specialist for an engineers report before theyd do all 4. but if you have any luck let me know!
  13. ok,so coilovers are bad bad things and seeing as everyone says il regret it i wont go down this route so to keep the dog happy can someone advise me on a make of strut to go for? subaru is simply not an option, not in the long term as a 20,000 mile car needing its 3rd set of subaru shocks indicates that theyre made by blind monkeys or that i do indeed drive it in a style of escaping the asylum
  14. im guessing you get more than 6000 miles from a set though? and bearing in mind that a sti strut(single) from subaru is £300 plus fitting, i think coilovers are a bit of a bargain! seriously im quite happy not to get coilovers if theres a better option but to be honest id sell the thing if i hadnt spent so much on it already-did over 60,000 miles with classics with no bother just dont understand what subaru are doing. and its not that im paranoid or oversensitive,it was pointed out by awd at my annual service that 3 out of 4 struts had excessive play in the mounts and that the car must handle like crap-which was reassuring as i thought it was just my driving!
  15. only other candidate that comes to mind is Imy for organising the highland run- can we give it to her twice?
  16. think itl be teins for me too,im sure the apex ones are ok but tein has a good name without being as expensive as ast or exe tc-plus i like the idea of the edfc damper controller in car. maybe try for a group buy over the other side sounds like a nice motor grant, quite fancy one of my own for a tak car but the blue beast keeps eating all my funds lol!
  17. exactly the position im in,got the prodrive spring kit fitted to mine as didnt want to go to coilovers but had all 4 struts replaced last october under warranty (with a great deal of hasle ) 2 attempts by dealers to sort the geometry out before i eventually had to pay up myself and take it to hypertech to get it right. now 11 months and less than 6000 miles later im in the same position and i just cant be bothered with the hassle of rolling up to subaru every 5 or 6 k to get my car to drive properly.
  18. didnt know you had an integra grant-you a dc2 or dc5 man? cheers dave
  19. only thing i can say is that i think the s2000s have brembo calipers very similar to the sti,so could be ok
  20. im in the same position, for the 2nd time and only got 6000 miles from subarus choclate box efforts this time. i thought about going the route grants suggesting but as i dont touch the car myself ive been advised that the cost will work out nearly the same as coilovers, though id be interested to hear from anyone whos tried this. been looking at the apex stuff too,but my other halfs car has tein superstreets and i dont find them that hard on b roads and they have a better(more available) backup service.
  21. in for my yearly check up today(cheers to the awd guys again) and once more ive got excessive play on 3 out of 4 struts now ive got 3 weeks of warranty left but im not sure if its worth the hassle of getting them changed again as ive completed under 6000 miles on this set,22000 in total and this will be its 3rd set of shocks-no track use just fast road. so do i just go to coilovers, try different make of shocks, get warranty ones for another 6000 miles or phone up subaru and ask them to pay half of aftermarket? thoughts and recomendations? and if coilovers, which?
  22. if you can find one an old shape daihatsu charade-1.3 with 80hp and reliable as anything jap. much as i hated lornas one it was mechanically fine, surprisingly nippy, economical and fun handling. shed still be driving it if the tinworm hadnt taken over (knew the bags of salt over it would work eventually) or for a really fun package a 1.5 lsi civic,120hp with vtec economy
  23. weve had this talk before dale,i still refuse to believe the shed(god rest) was only a 1.8- unless that was without the flux capacitor? and Al,shame on you for encouraging the classic heathens-stay true to the newages!!
  24. looks stunning mate, better than new.the werkstatt acyrlic is what i use on our motors after getting advice from the pb lads, made dads rs4 in mugello blue so deep, and love the wet slick look it leaves.a trip to thems on my list of things to do as mines got to first mot time too and not going anywhere. the beauty of ahving it like that is even when it does get grotty with the weather its half the effort to clean it.
