With all this talk of "Rowies" from the McRae stages, I thought some of you may be interested to know that you can buy them online! http://www.ashersbakery.co.uk/index.php?ma...x&cPath=7_3 £25.95 for 48!! Maybe not the cheapest place to buy them but it'd keep you goin for a while!

Cracking Way To Spend A Fri Night In Perth
scouk replied to the squiggle's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Grant... The up most respect to you mate! Well done! Can you ever see yourself stopping these Antics? I sure hope not! 110% for effort! -
There's always the argument that it is more economical because it does less long term harm to the engine compared to standard fueld.. Admitedly this could be cancelled out by the overwhelming urge to squeeze the throttle and let the revs rise higher that little bit more than normal..

Here's a report on the 5th gear review: http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?ln...3&pageid=-1 Shame the video clips have been pulled from youtube

Sorry to hear yu giving up the UK300 But... I LOVE the RB5's forget your 22B's and P1's... The RB5 is the best looking impreza ever! IMHO!! Good swap!! (& much cheaper road tax next year )

For me its offside bottom outside and nearside top inside. odd! I knew the the one of the offside as a wee bit sticky as I changed the pads just under a year ago. Pad that came out looked like a wedge but managed to get the piston moving again. However after it wearing out the pad in under a year, need to get it sorted properly! Kinda explains why there's receipts from previous owners for brake pads every year.. Thanks for another option.. But Ian at godspeed is sortin me out with a set of recon calipers with stainless steel pistons Hopefully that will arrive before the end of the week.. Sadly I don't think the new discs, pads, brake fluid will get here soon enough to get fitted before saturday... But you never know... Also big thanks to SPaceman (Greig) for helpin out with the calliper bolts
-
Nice one! Keep the suggestions comin'!

Thanks for the replies guys! I noticed the repair kits on fleebay for next to nothing which looked promising.. But just had a go at trying to clear out one of hte stuck pistons and no joy.. GOnna need somethign medevil to remove it and it's possibly corroded so much it'll need replaced... So the innards are possibly kaked as well.. However £175 from godspeed sounds decent! That's gotta be worth a call tomorro! As for discs/pads I was gonna be heading for the BLackDiamond Fast Track ones... Any major objections to these that I don't know about? Greig - If I cant easily get a set of the bolts I'll give ya a shout! MOre than happy to pay postage or whatever (Was kinda tempted by the WRX wheels you were sellin but this has blown that idea out of the water )

OK Long story short.. Felt yesterday that the brakes were a bit off during normal driving... After washing the car this morning decided to check pads.. Sure enough front offside pads stuffed! Same ones that went last year so clearly sticky calliper.. Fair enough, not good but was thinking of changing discs/pads at the start of next year it's just been pulled forward a but.. So decided to take it all apart today and remove the calipers and given then a damn good clean ready for fitting new discs/pads.. However.. For starters ended up shearing two of the bolts which hold the callipers on, (so I'd need a set of them for a kick off) But it looks like there’s one piston on each calliper which is stuck.. Properly stuck!! ain't gonna move no matter what sort of clamp was used! Also on one of the callipers, two of the rubber seals have twisted and will probably split soon. Finally I get to the point... Is it possible to recondition these standard newage WRX brake calipers and free off the pistons/re-seal them e.t.c. and get them functioning again? Or is it probably just better off coughing up for new ones If new ones, got any recommendations? Just try get standard ones again? new or 2nd hand or try rob a bank and upgrade the callipers to something different.. Sufficed to say the car's off the road till I get something sorted Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Here's a photo of my bro's old WRX which he never stuck a wing onto: and yeah it never got washed.... or modded... Also you may want to check out some of hte US scooby sites (NASIOC for one) as their into their de-spoilering over there!

Hmnn.. Prefer the plain white I think.....
-
^^^^^ That's a nice touch! I did wonder about the red striped rims on the white... But thought it might be overkill too.. Anyone fancy Photoshopping a set on just to see?
-
That's well tidy! I really like that! Nice one! As for the wheels... I'd say white..
-
Possibly. easier! They didn't even have to buy it!! All you needed to do is get a photo of one or the design (which was posted way back in jan this year I think) and then simply redraw it and cut it out! I confess I tried that at the beginning of the year as i was going to put a bigger version of it across the bonnet for the local Snowman Rally event.. But the top lettering was a touch too small and was prooving too much hassle.. still got the remains of it lying aroudn somewhere.. This was way before the first stickers were available..! I don't mind people selling McRae stickers but 2 things: 1) No copy of hte Gathering Stickers shoudl be distributed.. there's was only one genuine version! 2) If stickers are made and sold on eBay a nice percentage of the cost should go the appropriate charity! Which as grant has bene chasing up a few times, many don't seem to be and are cashing in for themselves. I should just point out that with the ">< C.Mcrae" stickers I've been making have raised nearly £900 the last year!!! (without eBay) Another £100 to go and that'd be a great milestone!

The Scottish Scoobies - Colin Mcrae Memorial Award
scouk replied to ed-209's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Don't be rediculous... I was just joking! I admire your sincerity but you were part of the team and all you guys deserve it.. Still thinking of other nominations... But can't think of what else that's gone on this year.. The Gathering has kinda dominated things.. What about any events/knockhilly stuff that wen't on..? However can I put myself forward for a Scottish Scoobies Golden Cock! award? (Ripped off from TopGear) This year I : - Fogot to ensure the wheel nuts were tight on my car before a run last November - Cooked the brakes on the way back from a recce for the Highland Run. - Had the Gear knob come off in my hand while down changing before a corner, on the way down to the Highland Run (Not fun) - Hit a Deer (Damaged part of the front end (consmetically)) - Fell off the rolling road (Broke the rear suspension) - Got it a bit wrong at Alford a week later and 'slightly' (cracked the splitter) - Had my first proper "blonde" moment and reversed into a post last week whiel parking (got a slight ding in my rear bumper as a result) Seriously peed of with myself on that one!! Sorry for going off-topic a bit... Oh I know.. What about my sheep friendly neighbours in Aberdeen for their first Santa Cruise last christmas? Oh! and what about JohnS and crew for going ahead with the Northern Big One at Alford this year despite the place turning into a building site virtually overnight! -

... To buy the Colin McRae rally legend dvd... Arrived today and only watched part of it so far but it's already having an effect effect on me... ... Most notibly a silly idea... There's been suggestions that the McRae gathering should be an annual event.. Well I'm with the organisers in that no way! Not only does it mean a huge amount of planning but also it should be kept as a unique event.. and one off.. Hopefully never to be repeated... if it get's re-run then it'll only serve to dampen the great event that it truely was.. But maybe we can have an annual celebration/memorial rally of impreza's (& maybe McRae fans) with a tour of Scotland.. Don't mean to rip off the Richard Burns Relay, but what about a relay of runs around the coast of scotland avoiding main trunk roads and keeping to safe sensible & legal driving, enforcing that just like ont eh gathering convoy we are a good sensible bunch really... Either do the whole run or just drive in your own region's leg of the journey.. Maybe get an item of some sort that we can take round the coast from region to region all round and meet back up at lanark Maybe I'm taking it a bit far.. Who knows... But was just a thought that wen't through my mind earlier and havent event though it out properly... But still.. would be nice to have some sort of annual McRae day/run maybe even something less complex like our Highland Run this year... (again fuel prices may stop such a thing dead )

If you know the pincode and it's the same alarm system fitted to the earlier newages you should be able to re-program them yourself!! http://www.scouk.net/subaru-impreza/techni..._M30_Manual.pdf Page 14 [Edited to add] - It could also be that superlock has been enabled which disables the keyfobs so you are forced to operate the immobiliser by the keypad only (More secure) I think that's also covered in that manual

Nice one!! There's just one of those photos that doesn't get the V-power flowing... can you guess which one..
-
Dodgy part of the country Pain in the butt! At least you havent lost anything!
-
Ok that makes perfect sense (along with the rest of your post I'm with you.. I drive it liek Miss daisy unless I'm out for a wee run aroudn the country side.. It's worked for me so far.. But it's really hit home last week.. After the big run for the McRae Gaterring. The few days after it the car was FLYING! and I mean flying, felt so loose and willing to go I REALLY fell in love the with the car all over again! But just a week later after back at work.. It's lost that punch it had a week ago.. It's still got power but No where near as much as it did have just a week ago and it's really groggy first thing in the morning.. Dare not take it over 3,500rpm. That's mainly what's got me thinking abotu a 2nd car again.. I want the Scooby as a Scooby! and the only way I can see of doing that is getting another vehicle.. DId think about a bike, but no use for hte winter.. YOur right braking even is worth it as you'll get a much bigger smine when getting behidn the wheel of the Impreza again. Starting to like this idea...
-
Just incase anyone is interested in the same sort of thing I'm thinking about.. Here's some rough figures.. 20 Mile trip to and from work each day.. (will have to check this again) At 280miles a tank in the Impreza, that's 14 days of work commuting costing £60 Which works out at around £100/month Now say in a Ka you'd get 350 miles for £40.. That's 17days of fuel for £40.. Which works out at around £55/month.. So for fuel alone that's a saving of £45/month (But if I can get 280 miles from teh impreza I could see more than 350miles/£40 from a smaller car.. (maybe) Anyway that's a saving of £540/year alone on fuel... Ok fine good so far.. Now let's look at he cost of running a seconds car. Main killers are MOT/Insurance/Tax MOT = £40? TAX = £120 Insurance = £234 (Best quote I got for a 99Ka after a search this monrning) That's £394/year to run the 2nd car.. But being a second insurance policy that's starting from 0 NCB again.. SO future years will get cheaper (in theory) So across the year that's a outright saving of £144/year! Not bad... But, what about the extra stuff.. Well the Impeza woudl get used more at weekends as I'd be saving by using the other car for travelling to/from work.. Which would in the end mean costing more fuel D'oh! BUT! - on the other hand it won't be used for crappy short runs every weekday in and out of work down farm tracks.. Which don't allow the car to hear up properly and will be putting unnecessary wear and tear on the car due to bumpy/dustry tracks.. There's also the saving on tyres.. That'd be a hell of a milage off the car per year, which woudl mean less wear on it, possilby a discount on insurance due to less miles and they woudl be better miles! Better runs for the engine keeping it sweet longer! So basically it's worth while in the first year if you can pick up a car for say £150 But.. Long term due to parts wearing out and failing e.t.c. it'll probably save a fair bit of money! And make the weekend/evening drives that more special We'll it's a good theory anyway Feel free to punch holes in this..

OK My turn... can't believe it's been 2 weeks since the Gathering.. Still clear memories in my head! All set and ready to go! Meet Point on the Saturday morning in Livingston The road to Lanark! - P.s. Those fast crests nearly made me sick! Nice road though The Bumble Bee! Count the SCoobies! 1....2....3....4...5....5....5... Ah sod it! LOTS! Memories of British Rally Champions! I wonder why? I think the Serivce Station was a little full.. Marshall Debrief at Banbury! Well Done Guys n' Gals! Where's me Bolt Cutters! One for Imy Is that a camera on your boot lid? or are you just happy to see me? I guess the SIDC must have been there then.... There be scoobies as far as the eye can see! - That'd be my bro's RB320 at the front of the 'C'! Afternoon Officer! "Ahh yes, we've had reports of a noise disturbance in the area and were here to hand out ASBO's!" Mr Lapwoth (Still gutted I never saw VBH) Incase anyone needs a reminder of why the event took place.. Had to get this shot My biggest regret? Here's an old photo from 2001 at the first ever rally event I went to.. That's The Great man himself driving the course car a the Spey-Side stages.. Sadly this is the closest I ever got to meeting him... I've got a whopping 289 photos here if your interested: http://www.scouk.net/gallery/2008_mcrae_gathering/ Or jump to the key points: - Livingston - Lanark - The Journey (including Mid point service) - Banbury - Warwick
