  1. Good brake combo... Improved over standard package for sure.. Less fade than standard discs and can handle more punishment.. No felt any silly vibration/warping from them when pushed hard. Certainly no where near as bad as the standard discs/pads.. Although steam coudl be seen on the last run I was out on (twas a good road )... Felt a little squishy from that (not surprising), but no harm done.. Good sensible upgrade I'd say.. But at the end of the day you get what you pay for.. Get a full blown brembo or tarox package and you'll get FAR better braking!
  2. Err no... Asides from the grange hill styling THe Pleiades logo is wrong
  3. Tidy car mate! Full of Prodrive goodies! Me Likey
  4. Says the guy who had a thread on here the ohter week askin if he should lower the scoob any more after fitting adjustable coilovers I've "seen" the torsion bar under the puglets but never played with one so dunno how to go about it... Will ask around and see if anyone knows though..
  5. Not seen the car but probably a typo.. Getting carries away with the hawkeye spec.. However it is possible... US blobs had 2.5l IIRC most likely just a typo...
  6. This thread is startign tot crack me up Next run could be interesting between you two..... As long as no illeffects are felt it's probably fine.. Knocking can happen for long enough without any harmful effects.. Annual replacements? Possibly, as I'm starting to find out.. But after having all the springs out of the car yesterday, checked the dampers, and they are doing what they should.. One of them stronger than the rest, but by no means compeltely duff (yet)... Instead of replacing them every year or two next time I'll be looking to upgrade to a decent set of coilovers for sure... It appears the Prodrive/Bilstein Dampers aren't really up to much either BTW - WElcome to the site! Nice choice of car.. always had a soft spot for the special editon models
  7. LOL! Nice one Does look quite smart there! I've decided to go with replacign the fogs down teh bottom.. Wasn't too sure about the aerodynamics, into the scoop, wasn't 100% certain I coudl get a solid fixing... I've got he wiring sorted so the fogs only come on with full high beam but can be disabled using the fog switch so they never come on. That's all done, put new connectors on the fog light loom so the lights are quicly interchangable, just need to make up the bracket for them now.. And it's peein with rain Fired them up yesterday after fitting the new connectors and even in daylight you could see it was lighting up stuff a few metres away! Just got some Philips BlueVision (xenon) bulbs in the post this morning as well to cut away some of the OEM yellowish colour and gain a bit more distance. Will definately post piccies when finished.
  8. Yeah.. Got the rears removed today and the car is currently sitting on blocks in the drive Heading through to ABZ first thing tomorrow morning to pick up the replacements and hopefully if the weather stays dry (year right) get it all back together again tomorrow! WooT! Checked the dampers and the rears are a bit more squishy than they should be.. Rear left in paticular.. I've seen worse though... But will need replacing next year.. Got all the wiring sorted for the driving lights as well today.. So just need to fabricate some brakets Cannae wait to try them out along with the new HiD's in the headlights BTW - ANyone got any tips on how to safely remove the AFR/O2 sensor from the exhaust? Mines well and truely stuck... Considering removing headers to get it on a bench (Yep.. been a wee bit busy this week )
  9. Theres one just along the road... It's called Boyndie ...and yep.. me too!
  10. That is an obscene level of car control! That footage shoudl be used in subaru ads... IMHO Good Find!
  11. As a quick update... Dealer I bought the Springs from (Town and COunty Aberdeen) are replacing the whole set under warranty Just a PITA to get them swapped over
  12. One of the best tests for testing shocks is to push down on one corner of the car at a time. (ideally just above the strut) First time the car will squish and lift back to origonal position.. If it bounces back more than once that's an indication ithe stock is stuffed. Once it's settled, Immediately try pressing down a second time, it should be much more difficult to push down on the car.. Do this for every corner.. If the shock is completely stuffed you will find that the car is really bouncy when you push down on it.. And it wont settle smoothly.. Not entirely scientific, but a good quick test...
  13. That sounds closer to the sort of price I had in my head... EDFC is soooo tempting... Saw Smilers set-up and fell in love Not with smiler... but the car.....
  14. Hmm... I thought TEIN's were £1,200 for some reason.. £650 is more resonable.. Possibly better option, assuming there's no known reliability problems... (That'll be going on the 2009 Scooby budget ) Anyhoo, scratch the head time methinks... Just been out for a quick test drive with the standard front springs back in (Still Prodrives on the rear) and, erm.. apart from it beign more wobbly the steering feels sharper and it "feels" like I have more grip! Very odd...
  15. LOL that's fair enough... If anyone mentiones coilovers it's always TEIN's that enter my head as well....
  16. Not a bad idea... Was having a look around today for one Excuse my ignorance, but what is the faciniation with Tein suspension... OK everywhere seems to sell it and quite a few peopel have them,. but there's also comments that they are very low and very hard ride.. But in the real world are they reliable...? Anyone manged to break a set yet? Kinda the prioroty at the mo.. At the moment I'd have nightmares of having to replace coilover kits annually... Looks like annual rear shock change is standard these days...
  17. Wonder if you can get a lifetime insurance policy for subaru shocks...
  18. Yeah I've heard the hawkeyes are particularly worse again for the shocks than the bugs/blobs Always seems to be the rear end ones... Never heard of any problems with the Prodrive springs though.. If I can't get the spring replaced easily and am effectively forced to buy a whole new spring kit, I may look into the same coilover you got.. But would prefer to stick to the Prodrive theme Asssuming they don't break again.. Other 3 springs look fine.. Possibly just a flaw... (which could have been V dangerous!) I'll get in touch with T&C on monday and see if they will do a good will gesture, otherwise will try banging on PD's door.. You never know... More chance of getting somewhere there than Moray COuncil/BEAR scotland It's a right bugger!, got 2 weeks off work just now and had great plans for the car, got a few new goodies to fit and had just started to get all the crap cleared out from every nook and cranny then sealed before the salt roads really kick in, only to discover the spring looked a bit dodgy.. BTW - Don't suppose you remember where you were seeing that Bilstein Dampers for sale that you mentioned last week?
  19. Well it's a case of out with the new and in with the old! Handling will be even more shafted than normal now as well.. Good point! Must remember that when getting it back together again.. Yeah expected the shocks to wear out a little quicker due to stiffer prings but just over a year is silly also the fronts still appear to be OEM shocks yet replaced the rears last year and it's one of those that appeared to be leaking again (and care was taken when fitting ).. certainly shouldn't be seeing broken springs after just over a year! (about 14k miles or thereabouts.. I think) Yep, full prodrive package is definately on the cards... Just dunno when now..... *sigh*
  20. If that was just mud I'd reccomend keeping it like that all winter! Nice thick protective layer against the salty roads!
  21. Just how soft is subaru /prodrive suspension!!! I replaced the rear dampers on my car with KYB shocks last year along with a full brand new set of prodrive springs all round!! Discovered a couple week ago that one of the rear shocks appeared to be leaking!! (I've heard the stories of chocolate dampers on here) so was looking into upgrading to prodrive /Bilstein shocks to replace them next year.. But... After going over the car today (just started, gawd knows what else I'll find) It appears I have a very broken prodrive spring on the front offside!! The bottom loop of the spring has broken off!! The damn things are under 18 months old!! Now I know the car has felt a bit wonky recently but bleedin ell!! How can the Impreza suspension be so soft and brittle with road driving! Not a happy chappy at the mo.....
  22. Nice one! Liking those wheels! Front grille looks shaper now somehow with that new badge... BTW - Is that a rubber protector under the splitter I see?
  23. Was more FIndhorn apparently which has been known to take in people trying to get away from it all... It's good innit! Plenty of whisky and Dogging going around! As was "advertised" in the local press the other week Sounds like you know the place
  24. Picked a bad day to got for a run to the Highlands.... Oh well. Time to find some disk space to record it all :)
  25. Just found this article from 2003. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 A must read for any new Impreza driver looking to understand how the Impreza works on the road! Technical yet easy for everyone to understand!
