  1. Hi mate, Yeah that's the right pack.. (For WRX) Your also right in thinkign the Y-shaped pipe is what is added as part of hte PPP on imprezas.. The standard one on teh WRX's are plastic and ribbed (ooh err) whcih doesn't have as clean an aiflow as the smooth silicone ones.. Also when increasing boost levels the plastic ones have been known to split and puncture which is why Prodrive felt it necessary to swap it out as part of hte upgrade. As Euan mentioned above, You wont really notice any difference in performance unless the car is remapped or has it's boost levels increased In some cases you "may" hear the airflow slightly louder.. In theory the car will be breathing that little bit better and as metnioned above it's much more reliable than the standard plastic Y-Pipe... Samco/Prodrive/Venair.. are all more or less hte same quality.. I've got VenAir ones on mine and not has any problems at all even after ramping up the boost.. THe other two pipes in the pack are one the short pipe from itnercooler to intake and the longer one from BOV back to the turbo (for air recirculation) Hope this helps..
  2. He used to own a proper! Sierra COssie which he regrets selling to a ned in inverness! Replaced it with a debadged BMW B10 (somethign like that anyway) so yeah guy likes his cars.. yeah I'm pretty sure the times i've asked for a quote he's said around £70, £100+ if bolts are really stuck and cause problems. But I dug out the last receipt earlier to check and it was £44 inc VAT.. Rates will be cheaper now with 2.5% VAT cut
  3. Just read this article on crash.net from David RIchards point of view: http://www.crash.net/motorsport/wrc/news/1...u_pull-out.html I can't help but think we may infact be in in a posiiton of seing the last of the impreza! With the Head oif Fuji heavy coming out with comments like : “We have achieved our initial objective to improve the brand recognition,” as if to say, we've done what we came to do and now were movign off elses where! [rant mode on] Is this the end for subaru? I think it could end up that way ... This year we have seen the new hatchback impreza.. which quite frankly has sent bigger shockwaves through the subaru / impreza comminity more than the bugeye ever did! SOme have caught on to it many havent... And at the end of the year of disappointign results after promises of a winning car. we have subaru pulling out of WRC (Ok yeah we've got a credit crunch and yeah it is a BIG thing..).. But it's still a kick in the balls to subaru fans there! Not only have we lost two of our finest ever rally drivers in recent years (who not forgetting won the championship behidn the wheel of impreza WRC cars) but now they pull out of the sport which made them what they are today! if it wasn't for prodrive and rallying, subaru may not even be making cars today!! They certainly wouldn't of ever had the impreza which was designed in conjuction with prodrive for rallying!... And possibly not the forester.. who knows... Ok sometimes companies have to move on.. But if they intend on tryign to make money by selling cars to normal people. it's a bloody competitive market out there, and unfortunately their cars are NOT that competitive with what else is on the market.. Yes they are still a higher performance car.. But how many of us woudl be driving our subaru's if it wasn't for rallying, McRae and Burns? Not many..... How many woudl continue to buy a subaru if they never come back to rallying! I'm guessine we'll be looking elsewhere in a few years time when it comes to change cars... What subaru is left with its new diesel engine.. Which is fairness does have good support! But they have turned their back on the people who got them this far.. I believe it will be difficult for them to continue without coming back to rallying and and hopefully winning! [/rant mode off] ... watch this space.....
  4. Varies depending on how much work they have to do.. perticilarly any tight bolts.. But if the struts have been replaced recently everythign should be nice and loose.. Simple check first time after fitting new springs was about £20... The alignment from last time which did need a little bit fiddling and straightening up the steering was just under £40.. (Actually that's cheaper than I thought.... )
  5. Just came across this one from RoadSafety Scotland http://www.onedistraction.com/roadsafety.html
  6. GT Tyres in Forres will do laser alignment for you! Used them twice so far.. No issues! Tel: 01309 674161 Postcode: IV36 26W Last time I was there, the young "apprentices" were drooling over the scoob
  7. Yep... I would....
  8. Nae a fan of BMW's ma sell.. But that is a tidy lookin car! Not exactly a cheap run around though Now I know where all my shell credit card scam money went May be interested in a saxo... Still semi-looking for a cheap runaround... Would prefer a focus though... Need to work out insurance/running costs etc.
  9. Same ere mate.. I started using enginuity at the start of 2007.. Thing is many peopel think its as simple as plugging in laptiop 2 seconds later instant remap with gazillions of hp and torque.. I've had a ridiculous amount of emails from people asking me about it the past couple of years who clearly don't understand teh first thing about how engines work.. Let along know what a engine map is.. Some folk have even sent me their spec of car and asked me to send them a map for it I mean WTF! Flattered yes.. But c'mon!! I aint that good. Like you, have spent a heck of a long time researching and asking questions on the forums making sure to understand fully what changes are being made.. Yes in theory anyone can do it.. and the rewards are off the scale! but.. I don't like reccomending something that people download plug into their ECU and fry their engine by rushing into it with little or no understanding.. I know, people who are serious about it probably wont do that but the net is full of numpties looking for quick fixes.. I'm more than happy to give out advice and assistance to anyone trying it for themselves.. But I aint being held responsible for any damage! [edited to add] Currenty running 273.7bhp from a standard 215bhp with the help of romraider. Could be slightly higher as boost wasn't as high as expected during dyno run torque was a lousy 250 mainly due to the low boost, but will be higher now (Made up a new restrictor pill along with minor map tweaks)... And I'm very pleased with the results.. The response from the car is also tweaked to my driving style. Not always something you can get from a tuner who only sees your car and driving style for a few hours..
  10. I was going to bid up to £200 for the A1 poster, but it's at £205 now Guess I'll just have to settle for a normal one in the new year..
  11. PMSL! I near did the same thing when mine texted me at 1pm.. Just about to hit send on a reply when I thought I better check Sad news indeed... I'm surprised Ford are still involved TBH, they are if deep doo-doo in the real world..! Worryingly is the comments from the head of FHI about them achieving all their goals with WRC about brand awarenesss! That "almost" sounds like they have no need for WRC any more BLoody hope not! Regardless what anyone thinks.. Subaru and Rallying go together in the same way McRae and Subaru go together... It is certainly a sad day.. I really hope they come back in 2010 and come back with a new car which fans and spectators love and kicks everyone elses butt!! Will be also good if the new regulations bring out more varied manufacturers! Sick of seeing these frenchies winning everything
  12. Agree.. Subaru really need to ditch the hatchback and start from scratch again.. They got it wrong... from what I've seen the old car was just as competitive.. Interesting that on the Scottish Rally CHampionshop whenever a new model impreza was launched it featured on the SRC! Drivers were really up-beat about how drivable each new car was! Yet I don't recall a hatchback being entered this year (unless it was on one of the later events)... WOnder why......... Part of the problem is that the WRC has moved on in a technical point of view and it's all about fancy active diffs and "precision driving".. Yet the Impreza is a "drivable" car it's allows you you to drive it the way you want and it'll help you out! Generally works best when sideways.. THis new precision stuff doesn't suit subaru.. and it shows.. Chris Atkinson has done good job given the equipment, petter.. WE'll he's a far better driver than we've seen this year IMHO.. And after having a brief chat with David Richards at the McRae Gathering it seems Petter just doesn't have the drive for the new car.. With the old one if he saw a change he'd give 110% to achieve the win.. But the new car isn't really settling in well. Couple of times he's shown how good it can be with decent stage times but overall.. Just not enough.. I really hope thew new regulations in a couple of years bring subaru back on form... But next year will be just as tough (hopeless?) as this year IMHO *sigh*
  13. Good point of view... Your right road accidents (or collisions or whatever the PC name is for them now) are not sterotypical.. As you rightly say it can happen to anyone at anytime.. Not just hte boy racers... You can genuinely be the best driver in teh world.. But a mometary lapse in concentration like a rear damper going clunk over a bump and becoming distracted by the noise can be a cause for an accident. The billion dollar question is why are some peoples attitude to driving so different from others.. Why are some peopel "bad" drivers and other "good" drivers.. What is missing, or what is extra in bad drivers which make them that way? And in a world of unlimited money what do you reckon could be done to change their way of driving or perhaps educate new drivers so they are good drivers from day 1? Your right the shock treatment doesn't really work.. It has an impact but not enough.. And if you ask any "boy-Racer" they know the facts and they know how to drive responsibly, yet they choose not to.. Why? I'd imagine their are a lot of younger drivers these days who know friends who have been killed on the roads.. A couple of guys I knew at school have been killed on the roads.. But that only seems to knock people back a little, before long they are back to their old ways.. Until they become involved in their own incident.. Even then, if they survive, very few change their ways.. To go off on a bit here... One thing I've noticed about newer cars (my folks just bought a 56 plate 207) and it's so vague it's silly.. You have no feeling with the car the controls are very light and give little feedback.. YES makes it easy to drive, but at the same time it gives you WAY too much confidence with the cars ability.. I'm sure it will break traction and slide but you have no idea when that could happen, and for an inexperiences driver they have no idea where the limits are and so drive however they like as they dont "feel" it getting dangerous.... Older cars are WAY safer from a driving point of view as if you tried to be a little bit silly you felt it.. Nowadays nothing... You don't know your pushing the cars ability until it's too late... IMHO
  14. That's a damn good advert!!! The UK needs that sort of advertising... But it's not allowed because it's too offensive and graphic etc.. THAT's exactly what is needed on topics like this, drugs e.t.c Tone it down and no one pays attention, it's seen as entertainment! E.g. Drink aware ads putting comedy in WTF!!! .. Just hardcore gory images that stick in the mind! Good Find!
  15. Nice! I'm sure I spot at least one photo of my car there too!
  16. Just to add another question on the same topic. How reliable are they really? Anyone broken a set yet, after a few years? Naturally they will wear our eventually, but has anyone managed it yet?
  17. Not sure where the best place is to buy but My bro fitted a carbon Fibre one to his RB320 which seems to work well in the engine bay! He also claims it made a big improvement in the handling... That's from a guy who only bought it for the looks.. http://rb320oc.ipbhost.com/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=62697
  18. It's all in the aid of saving weight... Compared to other 4 door saloons of the same sort of age, the Impreza is comparibly light despite the AWD! and turbos and intercoolers and stuff! THe paint on these cars is very thin but it's also very hard, so it should easily stand up to the elements.. But does chip/crack easily due to the hardness.. THe "flimsy" bodywork is not there due to cheapness but rather to keep the weight of the car down.. On pre-hatchbacks imprezas there was no door frame in order to save weight.. Nothing to do with making the car look more "sporty" and expensive! (the fact they added the frame onto the hatchback is just another spot of evidence that subarus direction has changed...
  19. Silkolene 5w-40 for me.. As reccomended by OpieOils
  20. Statistically, red cars are the safest! No really.. apparently they are less likely to be involved in accidents.. Part of the reason is that the colour stands out and other road users see them sooner than other colours.. Also red beign a warning colour in this country an red being a "sharp" colour compared to say blue which is a soft colour, it stands out more compared to the background and we take notice of them.. Grey / silver cars are deadly in bad weather.. particularly when the bloody drivers don't use their headlights In saying that, I've had my car in bits way too many times this year.. No dings or anythign but hitting deer, falling off rolling roads, broken springs e.t.c. Been a bugger!.. But in saying that, lucky because not much damage each time.. All repairable at little or no cost.. So erm.. Unlucky events, but lucky outcomes.. Keeps bouncing back stonger than before!. Would prefer to avoid the bad stuff next year though.....
  21. Totally agree! If your gonna map the car get Andy to do it! Best guy for the job. Unless your brave/stupid enough to try it yourself... .. If you do DIY, make sure you full understand EXACTLY what you are doing before you do it.. No room for trial an error here, also every car is different!! One wrong value on a table, and ka-BOOOM!! Which reminds me.. really must buy a decent wideband sensor...
  22. Mods.. feel free to delete this post... if I'ts deemed out of line.. I'm so peed off with this ebay crap!! The fact that people are selling them on ebay at all at rediculous profit and NOT giving most of the excess to the McRae charity is ...... No word for it... In my view it's goes to show that people really didn't care about the event at all and what i meant.. They are now trying to cash in "big" style by selling on their posters... Fekin disgrace IMHO!!! I know this sort of thing happens all the time with special limited edition stuff, but when so much work has been done to raise money for the McRae Vision charity and now the posters are beign sold on for rediculous sums of money.. The only saving grace is that "some" of the money is goign back into some sort of charity... Sure in a few years time when you open up a box in your loft, blow away the dust and think oh! I remember that.. Maybe if I stick it on ebay someone can make use of it intead of it gathering dust.. People are out to make money for themselves with this, for whatever reason and it's out of line!!! IMHO! Oh and for the record.. incase your wondering, I've raised over £1,000 now for the Charity by selling the McRae Window stickers! NOT on eBAY.. That money WILL be passed on to the proper people and charity as promised.. As will funds raised from future orders! Maybe I'm too much of a sad git, but the poster means more to me than this...! ....... and.... relax.....
  23. Yep but it took until yesterday for it to be publicised to the public... Hmnn...
  24. If the keyfobs work, you can reset the code (it's in the manual) I did that for mine... Dealer will charge a fair whack for doing the same thing.. No such thing as a master code.. if there was the security system woudl be useless..
  25. Yep sounds like the alarm keypad.. Used to program certain parts of the alarm, including new key fobs and used to enable/disable the alarm system in the event the fobs fail (not that that happens) http://www.scouk.net/subaru-impreza/techni..._M30_Manual.pdf http://www.scouk.net/subaru-impreza/techni...a_m30_codes.pdf ^^^ Assuming it's the same alarm system that's on the bugeye's.. I think it is...
