  1. Dunno if it helps, but I recently did the brakes on my bugeye and the bleed order was: Front offside Rear nearside front nearside rear offside. I only replaced the front brakes and didn't even use 500ml of fluid to bring it up again! (I think the entire system is aroudn 1 litre.. (coudl be wrong)
  2. Excuse me while I lower the tone.. VOLVO 440! Can see where I started the detailing molarky! Then the Scoob:
  3. I had it out with my last boss a few times about the same sort of thing (Small company though) Kept getting on at me for never picking up the phone when they need to contact me.. I kept tellin him if he wants me to answer my phone on the go it's up to the company to provide a phone and handfree kit which I can use.. They never did... SO I never answered there calls.. Although you'll easy find him driving aroudn the area at great speed with a mobile phone in one hand and no seatbelt and a heavy foot over the brake pedal! (scary!) Fortuantely don't work there any more... moved onto better things Oh and nice to see the Traffic polics have good taste! The challenge has gotta be to get a photo of it without getting nicked! LOL! There'a couple of imprezas in teh road safety unit up this way but their rarely used AFAICT.
  4. LOL! nah not for sale... well and truely fixed to the car! I Took photos off them when I was fitting it a few months back just for comparison in the event a thread liek this comes up so peopel can see the differences..
  5. Cheers mate! Although may still need the wiring/relay for it.. Got bits lying around but maybe not enough... Would want to wire it in so they can be disabled if necesary.. i.e. "flashing" doesn't blind people during the day Or maybe I do want that
  6. More expensive, but more reliable, & it was designed for the car by the manufacturer. I did consider a cheapo ebay one but heard stories of leaks and stuff and decided to go with my gut instinct and get an STi one.. here's some piccies between the standard newage WRX intercooler and the STi one:
  7. yeah understandable... same reason i wanted the STi headlights to replace the WRX ones which were crap at full beam. STi ones are much better all round both dipped and full beam, but need more distance
  8. Sadly not that easy.. If anythign I want them brighter... but also fog lights are designed to give a close range wide angle.. where as driving/spot lights are designed for bright, long distance at a narrow angle.. Two compeltely different units as the light reflector is a different shape to give a diffeent angle.. chances are the bulbs are interchangable..
  9. Hi guys, Surely some of you have had experience with these.. I'm considering swapping out my bugeye fog lamps for a nice set of driving lights for the winter.. Driving to work in the pitch black on twisty country roads would be much better, and safer, with a decent set of lights! (Even better if they vapourise the deer en-route Question is, will any fog light fit as a straight swap or do you need to get the proper PIAA kit from subaru? (would rather not pay full RRP for this if i can do it cheaper ) Also ideally I'd like to get HiD ones so they are as bright as possible (edited to add: if it wasn't so expensive I'd be tempted by a full rally style spotlight pod for the bonnet just to take the p***!) Thanks,
  10. The Forester STi kick butt!!! Definately wolf in sorta sheeps clothing! Even in standard form if I wanted a more practical car I'd look to a forester before a wagon...
  11. Aaiiiiiieeeee!! that's not good news... Hope everyone is ok! .. Any idea what sort of damage has been done?
  12. I've seen a few standard bug STi's for around the £7k - £8k recently.. So with the mods and selling to an enthusiast possibly £8k-£9k realistically.. But you never know...
  13. Given there's perfectly good imprezas in the for sale section on here for just a small few thousand it's incredible to see asking prices over 10k... I know It's sad times but that's where we are with the Impreza today.. Certainyl wouldn't pay near 18k for that one... COudl get a blobeye cheaper and get the same sort of performance for less I'm sure!
  14. Couple of things... 1) Anyone reading this, don't bother trying to fit those vortex generators on the roof of your cars... SOOOOOO many sotries of them flying off after trying to secure them properly! 2) similarly when fitting the front splitter, make sure it's fixed properly!!! Easy for them to rip themselves off at speed as they really do generate a decent amount of downforce! the're not just there to look pretty... I now have mine secured with 9x stainless steel bolts and rubber washers, AND clear silicone sealant around the rim to ensure no air gets trapped between the splitter and hte base of the bumper!
  15. I think they are over for a week or so.. If I'd remembered about it earlier I'd of tried to head out to the highlands with them! Hopefulyl the guys n' gals further south can maybe catch up with them!
  16. DAmn! I head they were coming over. THought it was mid-week they were due up here! They are doing part of a route Us northerners were goign to do later in the month.. (Assumign I pull my finger out os my a$$) AFAIK this was their origonal planned route: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=de&i...a251d4028e84bdc
  17. Yeah there are laws for it.. But many of these installations are done via cash so not traceable.. If anyone comes asking... "Wasn't me guv!".. Liek you say it coudl be installed legally with a disclaimer saying not for road use sort of thing.. Also I've had experience with insalling tinted and security films onto glass windows (not cars) and it's more or less the same product and if you know how to apply it it can easily be done at home without professional installations.. But most of the chav attempts turn out full of bubbles and *pop* after the first windows open and close.. LOL! Also supply and demand comes into it.. All the neds of the day were at it for a while, and it's easy money!.. But there are places who simply wont install any tints on the front incase they get in trouble! All this really came to light after a couple years back a biker was killed after a car pulled of a junction infront of a biker with the driver of the car claiming he never saw the bike.. THe Tinted windows on the car were to blame.. And now we have the law ... o O (Not much use that I know all this AFTER i got done.. *sigh*)
  18. Local Traffic department you tell you LOL From what I recall, there's are two cut off.. Allowing less than 30% of light through is 3 points and £60 fine.. No questions asked.. Allowing 30% to 70% light through is a fine but it "may" be possible to sweet talk them into a warnign if you remove the tints there and then... (unlikely) 70% and over is fine... Note that as mentioned above manufactuer tints are often around the 70% mark as it is, so any additional tint will make it illegal.. All very well buyign 30% tint but that's cut of 30% from 70% manufacturers tint! which makes nealy all aftermarket tints illegal! This is the the front side windows... I think the 18% comes from teh windscreen.. (i'e must let in 82% light) which again is probably what every windscreen is these days.. As i said above, I didn't feel like my tints were that dark.. but obviosuly they were at below 30% light, so yeah I woudl reccomend gettign them checked, but probably best to avoid getting them checked by the local traffic officer and they could book you on the stop.. effectively turning yourself in.. Oh and just incase anyone doesn't realise.. You can stick whatever the hell you want on the back end behidn the B-Pillar!
  19. At the time... I didn't, or at leat it didn't feel dark enough to be illegal... Had I known it was illegal and I was risking 3 points and a fine I would have ripped them off the car from day one! Live and learn...
  20. They puilled be directly for the window tints.. sure once they pulled me over they had a good look round the car, checking tyres, numberplates e.t.c but couln't find anything.. naturally Just to add.. i could have possibly avoided the prohabition order by ripping the tints off there and then and getting them to retest it, but the fine and points would still be enforced as you were caught red handed! But to be honest, to do a clean job of it you need to heat up the film first so it comes off safely... And in the heat of the moment it may actualyl be possible to pull it so hard you break the glass!! And then you're in a heap of trouble! I ended up speaking to them for a while after that discussing the whoel tinted windows thing and basically most modern cars have a certain level of manufacturers tint on them these days.. Most of which take it to just above the legal limit, so any level of tinted film applied after that is illegal to s certaing point.. Infact most people carriers (ford galaxyes in particular) are infact illegal from the point of manufacture!!!! Not quite 3 points and £60 fine terratory but they are illegal! but it's probably ignored as no one want's to piss off ford by sayign their cars are illegal in the UK!! Bascically If it lets in less than 30% light you get the full whack of 3 points and 60quid fine! that sounds dark I know but I drove the car in teh dark and I felt I coudl see clearly out of the window.. Sure you couldn't see in clearly.. I've strong thoughts on road safety and if at any time I thought the tints were makign visibility dangerous I'd have removed them.. But rules are rules... Now I just try reccomend to people not to go down that road. it's not worth the risk.. But as expected 99% of people ignore the warning and then they complain when they get caught.. And yeah I see cars every day with seriously dark tints (worse than what mine were).. There was even one goign around for a few months with a dark windscreen!!!
  21. Err no... If you dont' obey they will charge you for obscruction!! May end up being a lesser penalty but rest assured they will recognise the car in future and be taggign you every chance they get.... Personally I'd rather work with the local police thatn piss them off!! If you peel it off before they test it then yes as they have no evidence.. But once it's tested that's it.. I'm speaking from experience!!! 3 points, £60 fine Had a prohabition notice on my car meanign I was only allowed to drive it directly home! to have the tints removed then drive it to a MOT station to get a fresh MOT certificate (despite not requiring a test for 6 months and the MOT having sod all to do with window tints) then could only drive the car from MOT station directly to police station.. If that didn't satisfy them, the car woudl be impounded!!! That was a complete B*&^RD!! of a week!! I know what it's like which Is why I keep pestering people NOT to have their front windows tinted or at least remove them before they got caught! For the record, I wasn't doing anythign illegal/dangerous at the time, they simply pulled me over in an unmarked car in teh middle of town one saturday.. P.s. The code for me was CU20 - Driving dangerous/defective vehicle (or words to that effect) P.P.s. I tried to appeal it on all sorts of grounds... Particurlarly I recently bought the car with the tints on and it's was advertised at hte garage as "privacy glass" and at no time was I informed that it was or "may" be illegal!!! But got nowhere.... Still paying the price due to higher insurance with the 3 points....
  22. I've wrapped two sections of exhausts now and more or less got the hang of it.. Things you'll need : First off it's easier with two people (or a vice if you cant find a volunteer) Bucket/basin of water stainless steel straps (pliers or suitable tool for tightening these things!) Gloves (at least) I wouldn't reccomended doing this bare handed!!! Clean the outside of the pipe if necessary.. Put the gloves on before handling the heatwrap!! Place the heatwrap in the basin of water for a couple of minutes to soak and soften it.. Makes it easier to apply to the exhaust. (More flexible and it will contract/tighten a little when it dries) Get your friend/vice to hold the exhaust firmly. Start at one end of the exhaust right up close to the flange, making sure to start off tightly.. Wrap the wrap around the exhaust as tightly as possible while having a 1-2cm overlap as you wrap. (No Gaps allowed!.. unless necessary round the bracket) This is where the friend comes in handy as they can rotate the exhaust pipe as you feed it on as tightly as possible.. About every 15-20cm put one of those stainless steel straps onto it.. (These can be a right pig to get really tight, but they are of little use if they are slack. Keep working your way along ot the other end of the pipe making sure to wrap it as tightly as possible!, Snip off any excess and put the final tie-wrap on. I gave mine a blast with a heatgun to try and get most of the moisture out of it before re-fitting. That should be about it.. Chances are you;ll find it easier to refit as there's no heatshields getting in the way!!! Oh and as metnioned above, don't be surrpsied to get horrible smells and dodgy levels of smoke comeing from underside of the car for a couple of days after fitting.. It's just the wrap burning off any crap... (perfectly safe... Honest! )
  23. Really is shocking the state some new cars come from the showroom these days.. Damn good work there! Tidy! Liking the smoked rear lights I like the badges myself.....
  24. STi Intercooler is bigger and heavier.. But installing one wont see you get any "noticeable" performance gain. If getting the car tuned it can be reccomended as a safety option.. It will serve to help keep the air intake temperatures cooler when on boost, in theory it will also ensure reliability as the temps are lower.. Performance wise, You may gain an extra BHP or two which is nothjing in the real world.. You get bigger differences between cold and hot days!! Should point out I upgraded my WRX one to an STi one (also put the larger STI scoop to draw more air in) after pushing up the boost.. For safety reasons more than anything....
  25. Welcome to the site! That's a very rare car you got there! Not many of them have made it to the UK! Feel free to correct me on any of this info: 245bhp (based on the WRX) only 50 of these were made. all bugeye wagons, with the JDM HiD Headlights! with option of either 5 spd manual or the fancy 4sp tiptronic which is fitted to yours.. Your particular one (GGAA58T) was the later batch made between September 01 and October 02 Well worth looking after!
