I am due to be on a duty at work on that day but will be making every effort to make it to the event, it would be great if I could be accompanied by the rest (or some) of the troops Please take a little time to read through the link below and I hope to see you on the day. link to - Scooby ball 2009 Thread Cheers Iain

The car had lost a few litres of water the first time it over heated, it was topped up and bled then but there must have still been air in there?, oh well lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that all is well. Cheers Iain

Must have been, the leak is not that big though to be fair and the air lock was still present with the matrix bypassed at first prior to draining the system down. Cheers Iain

Been done mate, what are you getting at? Still thinking head gasket, the car was run at idle for damn near 15mins then taken for a full bore run up and down a private race track then parked back up with no change in temp etc all seems good. Cheers Iain

You are very welcome (again) In all fairness Ed if 'the 1' had been present and seen the car for himself, I am 100% certain the outcome would have been the same Cheers Iain

Had me baffled, it must have been a result of the leaking matrix there is no other explanation really, or from when the car overheated the first time, as for the cure the only thing I can come up with is that the airlock (if thats what it was) was remedied when I drained the engine down fully, both thermostats worked just one was better than the other so I fitted that one, the car was run up to temp I felt for the system pressure and the thermostat opening which it did then waited for the fans to kick in which they did then waited for the fans to stop, did this over about 10 minutes just to be sure then we took it out for a road test and all seems to be fine (touch wood) the system temp is stable there are no leaks, the system holds its pressure, the pump is flowing as it should and the fans are cutting in and out as expected, a very odd but interesting day Yes the matrix is bypassed, it was the first thing I did this morning.

Just got back from the poorly Scoob. Its 90% better now just the matrix to sort. First thing I did was to isolate the engine from the matrix as it was leaking, then I replenished the lost water and bled the system though until it would accept no more water, whilst doing this I was checking for leaks on the engine itself to which I found none. The engine was then started and ran for several minutes there was no flow through the 2 matrix pipes that I had joined together or any visible sign of flow though the reservoir tank with the cap off, with the cap back on the system would not pressurize either. Next step was to eliminate the thermostat (seen in the caption comp ) Ed went away to source a spare thermostat and water pump (just in case) and whilst he was away I tested the one off the car, It did open but not very far ( to be honest it was the first time I have had one out of a scoob so I am unaware of how far they open normally but you could see it operate in the jug of hot water, I assumed it to be servicable and still assumed the pump had gone), when Ed got back with the replacement option I tested that too and it opened a little bit further so we decided to fit that one and test again. As I had removed the thermostat almost all of the engine coolant was lost so this was replaced with some nice new coolant and bled again. During the next run of the engine, the system pressurised which it did not do before, the cooland was flowing through the joined matrix pipes and when up to temp the water passed through the rad and the temp was controlled via the fans as should be, I am now assuming that there was some big airlock in the system that was not allowing the water to flow though the pump/engine correctly. Just the matrix to sort out now. A very strange and misleading fault this one but is sorted now and Ed is very happy Cheers Iain

We are getting boring? What an a*** of a man you are. Most of us on here would go out of our way to help another. You are the only person in my time on the forum that has had this reaction on other forum users, like I said before you are not the only one that has ever dissagreed with any of my postings but you are the only one who has the ability to wind people up and continue to do so, perhaps if we knew who you are your words might carry some clout but as for now you are just a nobody expressing your opinion, see the difference between you and me at the moment is that everyone knows who I am. Also I have said before 3 or 4 times that I am not worried about being right or wrong about this so why do you keep going on about it. I have asked you what the symptoms of a failed water pump would be and no reply. I have also never stated that you were wrong once, only stated the available symptoms and my opinion as to what the fault could be and have asked if these symptoms could be that of a water pump failure and no reply. I have asked who you are and no reply. So maybe its not just me that needs to listen. You are the one that is boring and just down right up yourself. It is very rare that I will have a go like this but to be perfectly honest I find you a tad vexing at the moment. Cheers Iain
