  1. Welcome fella. Scoobies are good strong cars and as long as you take your time and shop around for a relatively unabused one it will last many many miles! Just try to get the best for budget. While looking at some scoobs just do the usual checks. No smoke on start up, blue could be a turbo issue. Drive it and listen out for any dodgey knocking sounds from suspension etc. Find a hill and check there is no slip from the clutch. Gears should feel slightly notchy when cold (especially 2nd) but should feel nice and free after you've warmed it up. Braking should be straight and true, maybe worth looking at the pads so you can see if they are worn or not. While there see if tyre wear is even and how much tread there is front and rear (owners tend to swap fronts and rears around to keep the rolling diameter same front and back, which saves wear on the centre diff). And if you can check the oil. Have a quick look at panel gaps and the overall condition of the bodywork. I'm not sure on service intervals on classics, but my '03 model needs a service every 12k miles/every year otherwise. It can be pricey, depending on what your having done though. I believe a cambelt is approx £450 alone and a new cluch approx £350-400. Brakes vary in cost really, depends what setup you'll have. Mine has Brembo's all round and pads for the front are 200 odd quid (from subaru dealer)! Aftermarket stuff can be £££'s cheaper (i have EBC yellowstuff pads all round, cost £160 for both axles!). Turbos should be fairly strong, lasting 80k miles+ if looked after. Warmed up and cooled properly. Again costs can vary, as come new turbo time you may want a different one fitted for more boost etc. But you'd be looking at a grand+ or so including the re-map it would need after. Hope any of that is useful.
  2. Enjoyed the vid The Mazda sounded good, alot of people say the RX-8 sounds flat and dull. But i think they have a lovely unique noise
  3. Hi fella, I have a '53 STi too. 6k really is taking the piss! A higher mileage bug-eye would be around that figure. For your blob-eye on trade value it would be around the 8k mark. But if you were to sell privately it would be a fair bit higher, between 9k-11k if you can get the right buyer.
  4. Just the usual things really mate. No smoke on start up, blue could be a turbo issue. Drive it and listen for any knocking at low speed from the rear, this could be worn rear shocks (a common problem, and should be replaced under warranty). Find a hill and check there is no slip from the clutch. Gears should feel slightly notchy when cold (especially 2nd) but should feel nice a free after you've warmed it up. Think that more or less covers it.
  5. Its cheaper and quicker to apply in a factory environment. We used to do at Vauxhall, and we still do it on our Vivaro model (granted its van and no customers are bothered by little things like that).
  6. Performance wise there is nothing in it. The '03 has inverted suspension, no different to the '05. The only change is the wider rear track (15mm) the anti-roll bars are larger and the geometry was altered too (all for less understeer), the wheelbase was longer too (extra 10mm). With the changes to the width/length of the wheelbase the wheels PCD grew from 5x100 to 5x114. The '05 also gets Driver Controlled Centre Diff (DCCD) and a different limited slip diff. The interior is nicer than the '03, more silver smoother dash centre console. The steering wheel and the gear knob are slightly different in design.
  7. No idea. I have a Zerosports filter in mine and run Eneos oil from scoobyworld. All i can say is there was a noticeable difference to performance after having it done
  8. I love these "my scooby got beat by..." posts There seems to be a misconception on here that scoobys are the fastest things on 4 wheels! Vauxhalls are great cars! Your lucky it wasn't a Monaro, or Monaro VXR It would have just embarrassed you. I owned one for a while (non-VXR with the 'little' 5.7ltr ) and playing with porsche's etc etc was just for sport a WRX or STi had to be running something very special to keep up in a straight line! The V8 in it was fantastic, 350bhp and at 80mph in 4th if you hit the gas the nose would point skywards and you'd be pinned back But... For everything else i prefer my scoob; bigger boot, better on fuel, conering without looking through the side windows, and actually quicker 0-60 and standing quarter mile etc
  9. They are definietly out and about. Waved at woman in a hatch the other week, got a blank expression back As she left where we were both parked i spotted the diseaseal badge on the back No idea if they are any good though. It was fairly quiet... well my engine was running and i couldn't hear much else
  10. Very nice Welcome to SIDC! Glad your loving your new scoob
  11. LOL mate, till you realise the thirst... :rotfl: Only kidding, Well chuffed to hear another happy scooby-newbie As Woodcote says, get some snaps up fella! And welcome to SIDC!
  12. Welcome mate! Age isn't an issue on here! Enjoy the scoob
  13. Welcome fella! I'm only down the road from you in Luton, Blue STi (ain't they all ) with ACE on the plate Wave if you see me I know what its like to become a turbo convert I had a Civic Type-R then test drove an Evo VIII FQ-300 way back in 2003, talk about hooked. Then took out a scoob WRX... enough said Good luck with getting your insurance sorted fella.
  14. Glad to hear your enjoying your scooby 28.5mpg is excellent Mine gets... cough... erm 16...
  15. It was running no cats and a air filter with no re-map... No wonder you were having trouble!
  16. Have a look HERE Its from the DfT and covers the rules on piggy banks... sorry i meant 'safety' cameras Mobile camera operators seem to make the rules up as they go though, we have many spots near me that they 'shouldn't' park, but go and park anyway One particular favourite of mine is the guy who stops his piggy bank in the overtaking lane of a short dual-carriageway, mounts the kerb of the island in the middle, parks amongst the large black chevron signs, then sits there on the corner completely hidden from view until you round the corner and... There he is The little s*** has never every caught me though
  17. Total stab in the dark here mate. And maybe barking up the wrong tree completely, but worth checking if you haven't already is the heat shield on the up-pipe. Its easily overlooked, and can make a tapping/rattling noise between 2k-3k or until the engine/exhaust drowns it out. Its also more noticeable on upward slopes. When mine went the heat shield itself was tight, but the welds had cracked further round the pipe and a hole had started to appear around the cracks. That can make a very annoying noise too Mine is a '03 STi though, no idea what model you have mate so just a guess.
  18. If your car is standard WRX with PPP it should put out approx 262bhp. PPP is not the best way for more oomph though, typically the ECU is just flashed with pre-determined settings that were done on test cars. Getting the car remapped by ECUtek is a personal map for your car and greater results are more often had. Edited as i've been corrected, below
  19. Your welcome Once you and Green goblin start enjoying that new beasty you'll be needing them soon enough
  20. I brought my Yellows from Here if that helps. Was cheapest i could find.
  21. V7 was unchanged as the blob-eye was released only 2 years after the bug-eye. The '03 V8 was the first blob STi. The new revisions of '05> including the wider rear track, DCCD and the increased PCD on the wheel hubs made that the V9. Hawk-eye STi was V10. Of course none of this really matters as their is no official 'Version' after the V6 But it makes life easier to distinguish the models
  22. LOL god knows, the newage cars are my forte
