OK I'm goign to have to stop replying in a sec.. It's possible the reason there were no further incidents, was because hte crew called the stage officials giving their thoughts that he pace notes were wrong for that corner and that info was passed onto the rest of the co-drivers at the start of the stage.. So they knew a car had already been off at that corner and that to take it easy!! Still can't quite see how it could get to court for that sum of money though.. "Motorsport is Dangerous!" after all.... One to Watch.. ... Right.. off to do somethign more useful...

Report from Berwickshire Advertiser Aug 26th 2004: Full Article: http://findarticles.com/p/news-articles/be...s/ai_n33879898/ Could be the poor guy has taken on the mission of tryign to place blame somewhere and "possibly" concentrated too much on that than concentrating on his own business? Just a thought... Particularly in the current financial climate...
-
YEah this sounds dodgy... In fairness maybe there was an error in the notes.. But it's taken this long to create a case? And really, with no other crew goign off or even reporting such a significant error at end of stage (I'm assuming) then this suggests it wasn't such a problem. Many drivers tend to read the road as well as rely on pace notes.. If his co-driver mis read a pace note and they crashed.. Would he sue them for £2m? I really can't see why this has resulted in a court case.. And for £2m Where'd that value come from? THe end of his rallying career /hobby and the fall of his business? I can understand loosing faith in the pace notes if they are incorrect but on accident should not put a proper rally driver off! and loss of business as a result of one accident with no physical injuries? Hmnn... It's either one hell of a shock to the guy, which would suggest to me he's better out of competition or looking for some easy money to dampen a failing business.. We have a few competition drivers posting on here.. What are your views? Or are you all signed up to give evidence on the pace notes at that rally? .. Couple after thoughts.. Anyone know what Special Stage and corner it was? Also many of the early 2000 stages were repeated each year and local competitors got to know the stages pretty well!! Edited to add: Just figured it out.. Retired Stage 6 on 2004 Speyside stages.. That was the infamous Clashindarroch stage.. THat's been run for years!! Even before the speyside stages.. That used to be one of the stages of the stages on the Granite city and I think Snowman years back! Also one of the favourites among drivers I believe because it's a long tricky stage!

Recently been getting between 24 and 25mpg Got a wee car for going in and out of work with (approx 40mpg) so that's about 500 odd miles off the scoob a month.. It's purely for recreational activities now Just as shame it hasn't been out much recently
-
Normal counts but if you have a V-Power card (rather than standard shell drivers card) you get double points for V-Powers, Petrol & Diesel. I'm about 2 tanks of standard Unleaded + any Scoob fuel / month whcih seems to be about a tank of V a month at the mo...
-
£7 here.. Although with the 300 point bonuses for fillups I'll find out how well the Ka copes with V-Power

Unfortuantely... They are just taking the pi$$ Similar reasons why you should always declare everythign the insurers.. yes ok they may never know.. But if you do need to claim and they find somethgin a miss it'll cost you either extra surcharge or they may declare your insurance void! I'm actually hoping for the opposite at my renewal next month as I now have a 2nd car for commuting so the soooby mileage will be 1/2 what it was! Hoping for a good price!

At a guess, mechanically the gearboxes would swap over and use the same mountings.. But ECU would probably need swapped as a minimum.. But it's possible it would need a different section of wiring loom depending on how much of the automatic is controlled by ECU and unless you are strippign the cars down that'd be a pig of a job.. I wouldn't have thought impossible, but yeah a pain in the ass at least..

LOL! Yeah thought I'd figure out how to set it all up before the event Even got a photo with the Ka in place instead of the scoob Lights in the footwells was this weeks main mod.. Had left over lighting kits from previous computer case mods. Which run off 12v. The tubes are tie wrapped in just up in the footwells. Took the signal from the interior light fading circuit so they only come on when the doors open and gently fade after a few seconds. Inspiration from top of the range Mercedes but what the hell.. Even ditched the poxy boot light and fitted a couple bright white cathode tubes in there for better boot lighting. Wasn't sure how well the footwells would go down but it's quite handy getting in the car and knowing where to put your feet Also lights up a small part of the ground outside the door when dark! Just means I have to keep the carpets and pedals clean

Don't have any recent arty photos of mine so this will have to do.. Now has driving lights fitted permanently and got a couple front end cosmetic tweaks planned in the not so distant future. From Standard: To something a bit more agressive: Yeah yeah.. I need new wheels...: Now with matching red interior (I think I'm starting to loose the plot now...)
-
Good point! Not critical but recommended to get the most from the uprated IC.

Yep the intercoolers between Bugs and BLobs are fully interchangable. If switchign between WRX and STi or vice versa, make sure you get the y-pipe section too as they are different.. I've fitted a blob Sti one to my Bug WRX... The existing bracket has two holes to accomodate the different sizes
-
Correct.. Just in the dipped projectors.. The Sti / JDM headlight unit uses separate bulbs for each unlike standard WRX bugeye's which use twin filament H4 bulbs.. Have considered HID-ing the driving lamps though... But wanted to get the ballast bug sorted first... It's possible I'll go nuts and HiD the whoel lot at somepoint... assuming I find suitable space for all the ballasts

Since I wasn't around here during the "Good ol' days".. I'm curious... What made them so great compared to today? Not looking for arguments or whatever, genuinly curious to find out what I missed and maybe.. Just maybe see if we can bring some of that back?.. I loved the look of that HUGE meet... Hoped the SKye run was going to be the same level.. Good event, but wished there was more numbers..
-
Got my second Ballast today and fitted. No problems at all.. Not even one single misfire on the bulb BTW - Found a few photos I took last year when I first fitted them: One on the left is HiD (4300k colour temp), one of the right is regular bulb.. You can see the HiD appears brighter and probably a better spread of light across the ground.. Distance tests.. May be difficult to spot the difference at first but note even throughout all the 3 settings the dipped HiD clearly has an intense level of light. Dipped HID only: Good light coverage with sharp cut-off thanks to the projector lens. Dipped HiD and Full Beam: Full beam using Philips Blue vision bulbs Dipped HiD, Full Beam with Driving Lights (Hella 500FF's with Philips BlueVision bulbs): Little but more distance, doesn't really show up there due to the distant road, but get a nice extra hot spot of light durectly ahead As mentioned above, note even with all lights on the HiD light is clear to see over the rest!

That was the same run that made me want to be part of the SIDC whenever I got myself a scooby.. Seeing all those scoobs blockign the main A96 in elgin queuing up for Optimax is priceless! Couldn't stop drooling for days...

I though my problem was somethign liek that, but it happens no matter the temperature.. Seemed more common on cold mornings, but happened any day at any time of day whether it was the first switch on or later on... The theory sounds good though and to me suggests that the slim ballast isn't up to the job of what it had to do and was cutting itself out.. Which woudl make sense... I did wonder how slim ones coudl be made when full size ones were still beign produced.. But I shouldn't jump the gun, once I get the other ballase and run them for a few weeks I'll know for sure if it's the ballasts at fault.. Strange I've asked several HiD distributers the last 12 months about my problem and none of them coudl give me any explanation or any details on how the ballast function.. *sigh*
-
It's 35w ones I have.. No idea about upgrade options.... They seem to do the job pretty well for dipped.. For long distance I've also fitted a set of driving lamps (non HiD) which give an extra hotspot at high beam. Night driving is sooo much fun these days
-
To be honest, I'd say try it.. Desptie the problem I carried on using them for a year but now with the darker nights I'm paranoid that the local police will pull me for having a dufff headlight that I didn't spot so wanted to get it sorted, only recently did I finally get round to buying another ballast for testing.. I have been in contact with the kit seller a few times and haven't seen to heard of any common issues with the slimline ones.. But I didn't have much luck with them.. Both seem to be iffy.. Worth trying I'd say I'm curious to know if it's just me or not... The slimline ones defnately are MUCH smaller than the standard ones! At least the solution for me is simply swapping out the ballast, no need to completely re-wire things.. So an easy fix.. Even if it is costing £20 a ballast Just glad to finally get a soluton.. Only used it on a test circuit earlier will know for sure if it's fixes it when I get the other ballast and install them properly.. Problem is if you swap back from Hid's to standard it can be a bit of a job as you'd have to try re-seal the larger whoel created for the HiD wiring..
-
Generally yes.... YOu could get away with using them in high beam as you shouldn't be dazzling anyone wiht those anyway.. HiD's are ideally suited to those eyeball type projector lenses as they dont use a reflector but rather a single lens and a fixed bar for blocking light for dipped angle so as not to dazzle other road users.. I've heard of specially designed reflectors which are compatable with HiD bulbs and also certain kits claim to be suitable for reflector style lights but seen them in action anywhere.. They use a special design of bulb with a built in deflector to force a cut-off of high level light (similar to that seen in H4 style bulbs) but they are probably more expensive.. One thing to be aware of, but shouldnt cause a problem, is that aside from the havign the proper housing for the bulbs, HiD lamps should have auto levelling sensors/motors and have headlamp washers for them to be "legal".. I have neither on mine.. MOT is a pass and they don't dazzle anyone so from a safety point of view they are good.. But not strictly 100% road legal.. But then it's bugeye JDM headlights I have on mine and I don't think the JDM bugeyes had headlight washers...
-
FItted a set to my bugeye just over a year ago.. Was a manual install so had to cutout slightly bigger hole in the back of the headlight unit to get the wires to fit though.. Bit of silicone later and job done.. http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...p;#entry1216693 Are they worth it.. Oh yes!! Aside from the fact they look nice from the outside, they give off a LOT better light coverage.. With normal bulbs you get various levels of light across the field, but with HID it's solid light all round.. With a very clear cut-off so it'd be obvious if you are goign to dazzle anyone.. Just note they really should only be fitted to the projector lenses. Fitting to reflector lenses, which are not designed for HID's is not only a waste of time, but also dangerous as they scatter the light everywhere! As fo what kit to go fors.. not sure.. THe kit a got was off a group buy on SNet with slimline ballsts. But I can't reccomend them... Ever since installing, the lights woudl switch themselves off whenever a electrical blip occured.. Like a indicator cancelling.. Often either one or both sides woudl swithc off and I'd have to manually switch off the headlights and back on to get them to fire.. SOmetimes takes several attempts.. Not ideal! THought it was maybe dodgy Impreza wiring, but wired up a basic circuit to a seperate battery with a switch and coudl recreate the problem.. SOmetimes it would illuminate, but randomly woudl switch off.. Recently bought a spare ballast (non slim version) off eBay for £22 and tested.. Worked a treat.. Been trying to recreate the problem for hte last 45 minutes and can't.. Seems the slim-line ballasts I got are unreliable.

I had the little feckers nibble at my engine bay a couple years back! fortunatley no major damage, just cosmetic to the same red cap and the red cover on the +ve battery terminal..
-
I think this time round it may well look like that... THe Toyota is already looking like the images, quite possibe the Subary will look similar just beefier! One to look out for methinks...
-
WoW! Good on ya mate! Very best of luck with the project! Hopefully when the time comes you'll be posting some good times on the track! Keep us informed of progress with plenty of pics!

Looks like a Bugeye STi scoop to me... WRX ones were pretty short (and most only have 3 supports, STi's tend to have 4) also from that angle looks higher than the WRX. Blobeyes are mahoosive!
