Bc Coilovers, What Are The Benefits Over Tein's ?
scouk replied to scoob fae ork's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Nope.. (don't have either) I think the consensus at the moment is that if you are looking to buy from new the BC/Apex ones are the ones to have (group buy on Snet for anyone interested). Cheaper, just as adjustable although none of the electronic adjustment available) but the key thing at the moment seems to be if they need some TLC you don't have to pay a fortune to send them back to Tein and wait several weeks for their return. The individual parts and repair kits for the BC's seem to be available in the UK so parts and repairs are much cheaper.. Is it worth swapping Teins to BC's? if your not getting trouble wiht he Teins possible no.. But if you need them services it'll cost you.. -
.... errr.. nope.. Stil sitting out the back on ramps... but.. Treated a layer of rust on the front subframe since the radiator is out of the way (long overdue), replaced spark plugs for a laugh and grounding kit fitted.. New Radiator ready just to slot in.. Weather looking promising tomorrow so...

A side from the various other problems with the car at the mo *sigh* ... ... Wheel & tyre combo going great!... Not quite 1,000 miles on them yet, but have noticed the past couple of days they are really starting to get their grip! They certainly have a different feel to teh Bridgestone RE050's I'm used to, more flex tin the sidewall for sure, which isn't somethign I've never really liked the feel of before. But it seems to be not too bad with the toyo's, it just reminds you when you are beign a bit of a tit and still seems to give a fair bit of grip even after that! I still don't have that initial *bite* when turning into corners which has always left me with lack of confidence with the car.. Hoping future suspension modifications can sort that out, rather than relying on mini scandinavian flicks Ride quality has suffered a little on the 18" The rough road surface aroudn my home definately feel rougher than before, but makes the car feel more solid. Also getting more road noise, probably though a combination of 18"'s and the Toyo's. But since the scoob isn't my primary everyday car, I can live with it.. Wheels don't take long to clean either, just have to remember to keep on top of it and get used to washing the inner rims too

That should be right enough... If the car had PPP installed after 2003 then yeah it should have the remapped version and indeed be much closer to 265ps.. Unless someone was being cheeky and found an old chip lying around and put that in instead
-
Hi Kev, THere were two different types of PPP at the start of the newages. THe first generation was a simple mod-chip onto the ecu along with a coupel exhaust mods and intercooler piperwork upgrades. This brought power up to the 240ish that you mentioned. Later, near the end of the bugs and into the blobs onwards the PPP became a ECUTek mapped ECU replacement which made the car more drivable and brought power up to the 265ps Not many bugs had the 265ps version but there' maybe a few kicking around.. Hope this helps..

Don't forget, SIDC members get 5% off at www.EliteCarCare.co.uk.. But as I recently found out there's now a delivery surcharge for IV postcodes So back to www.PolishedBliss.co.uk for my current order... But would reccomend either, I've had great service from both. . o O (Al... Sitting on the fence.. ) P.s. Tommo thanks for satisfying my foam fettish

No worries.. 7.5" wide wheel with 225x40x18 tyres... Would have gone for 235's but the Toyo's were bundled with the wheels I've been getting pestered for the past 3 years or so from members on here telling me to put bigger wheels on.. I'f I'm honest, the 18" Ultraleggera's still look a little small due to the design and could probably have gotten away with 19's but ride quality would no doubt suffer quite a bit more.. and 18" tyres are cheaper than 19's
-
Thanks for the feedback guys n' gals! Wasn't sure about them when I first stuck them on. But think it was just that they looked soo much different to standard 17's More I see them the more I'm convinced they were the right choice.. They've been lying in the spare room since start of the year waiting until the snow, most pot-holes and general salty crap been brushed off the roads Matty - It's currently sitting on standard/KYB shocks and Prodrive Springs. Initial balance seems to be spot on! The wheels really have made nice changes to the driving of the car. Wider track, fatter tyres and slightly heavier steering all add up and make it feel that liitle bit better than it did before. Better balance and overall feels more stable, little surprised TBH.. But can't comment on more agressive driving until the tyres are suitable scrubbed. One thing I have noticed is that on the Prodrive Springs the back sits a few mm higher than the front which looks a bit odd with an empty boot.. Set of BC/Apex coilovers required methinks P.s. Can't quite see it from the 2nd photo but theres also a set of blobeye "style" rear lights on there too..

Welcome to the SIDC! Nice clean looking bug you got yourself! And previous SIDC owner should mean it's well looked after Will be sure to give you a wave if I see ya going about

Maybe not to everyones liking as black seems to be in the in colour at the moment but it's nice to be different 18" Oz Ultraleggera's in Chrystal Titanium: And somethign a little arty-farty! Early days yet as I still need to scrub them in a bit.. memories of Alford a coupel years back on fresh rubber still firmly in my mind the 18" dont half change the feel of the car though.. Seems much smoother, better balanced and a nicer, more weighted feeling on the steering! Grip on the T-1R's? erm... wont know for a few 100 miles yet, on the wet roads today on brand new rubber it was erm... slippy..

I'm sure someone can do a neater job but in the meantime:

I did my own mini trial last year.. ran T99 for a month or two just to see if I noticed a difference. Decided that T99 did as others have said make the car feel smoother.. But it didn't quite seem as lively at the top end.. Vpower felt a bit rougher (relatively speaking) but seemed to pack a bit more punch and responsiveness when "playing". Also decided that Vpower was slightly better mpg than T99 but with t99 being so much cheaper it was the better value for money.. What am I runnign these days? Vpower.. Felt like I got a coupel bad batches of T99 at one point. But not had any trouble with the Vpower at my local station.. Having said that, I've had a couple bad batches of Vpower from other stations out and about.. Conclusions.. No outright winner. each seemed to give feelings in the car.. T99 was cheaper but watchout for groggy fuel. With Vpower you have the Vpower points card... With T99 you get clubcard points... Car needs a fill up tonight and if local station is out of Vpower it'll be T99.. Unless their out too in which case I've got a couple bottles of Octane Booster with me

Nice! I'm likign the little red highlights here and there... Looks like a FandF road racer! Nice and shiny too! .. But wait.. no foam shots?
-
I know someone local (non scooby) that ran them all last summer with good effect! although at the end of summer on the first cold wet day he wrote the car off by goign straight on at a corner!

Interesting...... Thanks!

That's horrible news... .. Good on the scotrail boys for doing that.. Was asking folk to look out when they were walking their dogs in that area. Also got one of the posters in at work the day after my last post and made sure it got passed around the Estate..
-
Just out of interest, what pressures were you using on both? Have been running 32F and 34R on the Bridgestones which feels right.. DOn't like them any lower than that and I heard the sidwalls ont eh TOyo's are more squishy, despite claiming to be re-enfornced

Hah cool! shame there's oncea again a stupid law stopping him... Although He did try and pay his fine, they just didn't accept the legal tender.. Good on im!

Yep.. As you suspect, it's not that protective really. I have a genuine supplier of number plate materials in order to make up number plates.. All 100% legal and no need to show ID to buy the materials which hold the BS AU kite mark.. I can make up legal and illegal number plates (please don't PM me asking for any cause I ain't going down that route and they area PITA to make as I don't have a proper press.). The postcode is a good idea for tracking down places which are selling dodgy plates who stupidly put their postcode and company name on illegal plates.. Unless they mark them as not for road use.. In which case it's up the the owner..
