Cheers Kenny! appreciate it!

if anything claybarring can add a couple very minor scratches here and there, but nothign a quick polish wont be able to resolve.. Claybar is very good for cleaning up a surface to get rid of tar spot and any surface debris that you may not be able to see, it'd doesn't necessarily remove oxidisation, a rub down or polish would sort that out... If after you wash your car, you can run your fingers across the bodywork and it doesn't feel as smooth as glass, then the claybar process can help you get it's very smooth! Then a polish to clean up the paintwork and remove minor scratches, and get it looking sweet then finally protect with wax to seal the paint and protect it from the elements..

WoW! that looks sweeeeeet! I want one!! Definately De-Swirl rather than matt What Coilovers did you go for?
-
That's probably the sort of thing I'm going to have to go for.. I've been looking on and off for a couple of years for the right stuff. And the bulders stuff is closer to the mesh size I want. Easy to get small diamond or hexagon stuff but really want the large holes. Most of the industrual stuff I came acros before was a bit rough for looks, and would require painting/coated black.. Would be nice to be able to get a supplier of the right stuff that the proper grills are made of. Good suggestion though

Hah! Cool! that was quick Will let you know if I come across anythign similar...
-
Davey, Can I as you to measure somethign for me Can you get a reasonably accurate measurement (nearent mm) of the wee diamonds on your front grille? Lookign for widthxheight of each diamond.. Really keen to find a close matching mesh.. (try sayign that after a few pints!) BTW - That mini SIDC Grille badge can be purchased from the SIDC shop: http://www.sidc.co.uk/shop/product_info.ph...products_id=156

Hah! thanks! Actually overheard a few "younger" folk pointing them out too as they walked past Car looks surpisingly tidy in that photo, given it only got a quick wash the day before Speaking of wheels, never noticed it soo much at the event but Euan, those wheels are super clean!! Car's looking spot on! Just take it easy with the machine polisher Yeah rain didn't put us off much, was good to catch up with the latest news again! Club Gazebo beign put to good use to keep everyone dry!.. Been hanging on teh washing line most of today ScoobyDoom - I know you've probably just gone with teh gold wheels as a temporary measure but I kinda like that black/gold look at the mo  Saw a Red Mica Bug with gold wheels the other day and really glad I didn't go for that option.. The gold on red looks "rusty". IMHO...

That's just silly!! Nice arty shots! BTW - Does anyone know where you get that style of mesh? Been looking for years but cant find anywhere that has it in sheet form, I found something similar but the diamonds are smaller..

Nice video.. Another one here of the same day but different point of view: Thoughts on the saloon model. Front = Yeah! Side = Evo Rear = American (It was designed by an american afterall) Not great, very plain.. Overall It looks better than the hatch.. IMHO, Front I always liked.. Side, hatch style is takign some gettign used to.. Really flawed design on the rear of the hatch TBH.. No doubt the hatch should in theory handle better though.. Also interesting to read thoughts that despite subaru aiming to release more diesels in the next couple of years, including a Diesel STi along with their hybrid.. Theres definately a element that subaru are targeting more fast road track use with their cars rather than rallying.. So despite the apparent lul in the model (no offence intended) things could be looking good again in the next model, which could be more focussed to road use how about a JDM 4WD TOCA series between scoobies and evo's on teh track!. ... Just hope they get a decent designer to do the rear of the next mode!

Good points there dale.. If the cars are beign specificially targetted they will try get hold of them regardless. And yeah naturally the more security barriers the more time it will take for theives to get through them... Another more expensive option is to upgrade the alarm system on teh car.. But the more secure/awkward systems with specikfic carjacking modes can often seem inconvenient for every day use. And many don't like them.. But it's the same as adding a steeringwheel/pedal/gearstick lock on teh car.. IT's inconveneient, takes more time for you to leave and secure your car.. But as dale rightly mentioned it takes the theives longer to take it.. Bit of a trade off really. But the options are there.. I'd go down the more secure route myself, safe in the knowledge that the vehicle is more secure..

They do.. But not all insurance companies will necessarily take note of it.. similar to extra driving coruses, like skid pad training, pass-plus, advanced drivign courses. All these shoudl add up to discounts on car insurance, but I've found that insurance companies dont seem to recognise these things as much these days.. Also as mentioned on the other thread, trackers are now seemingly putting premiums up! if you have one and it's not active, you wont get insurance, but if you don't have one you get cheaper premiums.. for havign a less sucure car! WTF is that all about! One other deterrant was a pedal lock device which seems liek a good idea, and stuck down int eh footwell they are more difficult to get to for removing. But don't know how much protection they give.. I guess, other general things, simple like keeping the car tidy inside, not leavign things lying aroudn or leaving evidence that there is anythign of value in the car could help..

To be honst, other than a big rottweiler not much.. Perhaps CCTV can help if it's hidden, but IIRC it's not legal evidence unless the criminals are notified of the CCTV being there. perhaps someone can correct me on this... Things like disc locks and stuff only deter some of the casual thefts... Professioanls can break through these surprisingly quickly.. And it's been publicised in the past that it gives the impression the car is work somethign and can often be targeted as a result! Even things like trackers have been known to be disabled by pro's. The older imrpezas which seem to be whats targeted here are more vulnerable as the alarm immobiliser systems are not as secure as the newer ones.. hence why most modern car thefts these days, they go for the keys.. theFastOne, put up a pretty good post about this yesterday: http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=149040

I know it's already been mentioned last week but thought it necessary to post this up.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_...nd/10284176.stm

Hi All, As some of the local guys are probably all ready aware, I was planning on standing down as R/O for Morayshire. Just don't really have the time and commitment levels that I've had previously to help move the club forward, last 12 months not much has happened in Moray and it needs a change! After much local deliberation ScoobyDoom (Pete) has risen to the challenge of taking over the Regional Organiser position for moray! I know he'll do the region proud! He's pestered me long enough the past couple of years about things that can be done in the area which we haven't had a chance to do, so looking forward to things picking up again in the area, there's constantly new local names popping up on here and new Scoobys around here! Not sure I'll be able to make any evening meets that there will be due to early school nights but I'll still be around in one way or another, probably helping out with the bigger events if possible.. Cheers!

I got replacment KYB shocks (effectively standard replacements) for mine from Camskill a couple years back.. Was more or less the best price available at the time.. Think it was £60 each or thereabouts.. As phil says there's always coilovers.. There's a group buy on them over on scoobynet at the mo if your interested. But there is a few week waiting list.. Their branded APEX but seem to be rebranded BC's as they are the same configuration, same sort of price, same options and parts seem interchangable. Edited to add: Richard's option seems like a good idea to get you going!
-
IMHO the standard intake isn't as restrictive as you perhaps think it is.. It's not a ram scoop that relies on air getting pushed into it.. It's an induction system which sucks air into the turbo/engine.. And It's the same system used all the way up through the 300+bhp standard Impreza STI's with PPP with no problems whatsoever! But modifying for a larger intake along with other intake/exhaust modifications including remap and it it becomes a piece of a much larger jigsaw that when all put together will make a difference.. my 2 pennies worth....

I think if I was looking for a private plate, my personal limit woudl be 500 for the right one... Luckily enough I got mine for £250 as it doesn't mean much to anyone other than myself.. As Kenny says, don't be drawn in by resellers.. Go direct to DVLA.. they WILL be cheapest for unregistered plates! All the resellers bascially buy from DVLA and sell to you on demand, look very closely for additional costs from resellers... they don't own the plates.. Unless you buy from a private seller who already owns the plate.

That's what I call underbody bling

Tend to agree. Cost of insurance/tax et.c. is contantly increasing.. Fuel has gone up a rediculous amount! near £70 for 270miles these days!... Just booked the scoob in for an MOT that's now up to £54! ... No wonder it's only done 3,000 miles that last 12 months.. I've genuinely started looking at the new Honda CR-Z or maybe the Impreza hybrid when it comes out
-
Not sure about costs, but since your location is inverness/nairn I'd give Dave at Bitz Motorsport in Nairn a bell I'm sure he'd be happy to help out.. They know their way around Imprezas! and you can keep an eye on your car locally If your looking more specifically aberdeen then possibly Wallace Performance.. but wasn't overly excited about the work done on my car juist switching a center pipe on the exhaust. Further south you've got AWD Motorsport in Perth.. And a few others, but havent dealt with any others personally.

Both my car insurances went up this year.. Despite one of them obtaining it's 1st year NCB Grrr! Was expecting both of them to drop as milage has effectively halfed on the Impreza ... sure I could go for multi car discounts with some companies but they don't seem to like the Impreza.. particularly because it's modified.. Bout time every car was fitted with a ANPR system to track down non insured/taxed/licenced drivers...
-
Welcome aboard Sal, Yeah there's a few of us up this way at the moment.. 28 is a good count! WoW!.. Hope the drop in temperature throughout the year doesn't put you off Definately a few nice roads in the area, including the infamous Cock-bridge to Tomintoul (A939).. and a few others
-
Was running RE050's on the standard wheels and quite liked them actually.. Progressive wear and good levels of grip.. If I had the choice thought I'd give the F1's a try! Currently got Toyo T1-R's on the 18's Stupidly grippy when warmed up, don't fancy their chances in rough or snowy conditions thoguh.. Since you've already got an as new Bridgestone I'd just buy another 3, thei'll do the job I'm sure and will cost much less that 4 new boots.. Otherwise I'd look at the Goodyear F1 Assymetrics..

D'oh! you pretty much summed up on one line what I just spent the last 10 mins drivelling on about.. -
Police Tackle Dangerous Driving On Country Roads
scouk replied to StrikE's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Where' me flame thrower (jus' kiddin) Although I should probably read the rest of this thread in detail first, i think one thing about these statistics regarding speed beign an issue in accidents that although it is a strong factor in many accidents/collisions/incident ( or whatever they seem to call them these days) The majority of accidents are infact within the legal speed limit!!!.. Putting more speed cameras and camera vans on our roads is mostly catching those people who are drivign at 62mph in a 60.. Collecting fines left right and center.. To me this is a little picky, but I will admit rules are rules. What should be targeted, which I hope is occuring as part of this crackdown is "inappropriate" speed.. Sure 60mph is the limit but there are many bends/crests, road surfaces in the area whereby it's no where near safe to be doing 60mph.. Yet it seems many drivers dont anticipate having to slow down for these hazards and tear round bends and cutting white lines onto the wrong side of the road because they are takign corners too fast... Car drivers are not hte only ones at fault here! I know many bike riders who although ride quickly do adhere to some level of sensibility.. But I have met others on the road taking corners so agressivly that the bike may be on their side of the road but their head is near as dammit inline with the drivers seat of my car because they are leaning so much round the corner.. It's bloody freightening!!! I don't think the penalties/fines are overall the way to do... better teaching and training is what's required... My personal view is that the basic driver school level of training is not strict enough.. And should be of a higher standard from the word go..
