The first point of the ABS system is the tone wheel.. Which acts as a wheels speed sensor so the ABS system knows how fast the wheel is spinning.. or more importantly if it has stopped while hte other are moving much quicker.. If it is indeed a ABS hub then yes stickign a ABS tonewheel on shoudl be ok as long as the sensor is working.. Just try to make sure the distance between the tone wheel and the sensors are the same for the other side of the car.. An inbalance can mean dodgy feeback from teh ABS (been there done that.. ) HOpefully it's not the case for the fronts, but on the rears the wheel bearing needs to be removed in order to install the tone wheel.. Replaced one of mine a few months ago but didn't pay enough attention to the sensor distance so had to strip the brakes off again and re-mount the sensor.. *sigh*

Well Explained and very good point Cool! Not being doing any ECU stuff for about 12 months due to more mechanical problems with the car, but it woudl appear I have some catching up to do with the recent developments...

I've heard of duck calls being strapped to BOV's before, but never a set of donkeys nads! I dare to be different and have a GFB Stealth FX on mine... Fully adjustable from 100% recirculating to 100% vent Usually have it one step above full Recirc.. Also spring load is adjustable.. But then I like things I can fiddle with Don't know anyone else who has one.. HKS's are as common as SIDC moderators these days

I think Andy was referring to the additional "addon" for ECUEdit which fudges the standard read protcol and allows you to bypass the ECUTek lock on the ECU. I wouldn't class it as "pirate" either but perhaps a little unlawful if used as it's breaching licencing agreements.. However it could be useful for diagnosing problems if a ECUTEk mapper isn't available.. I have a copy of this hack (as I'm sure many other OS mappers have) but never used it.. Curious to see if it works though I do agree with Andy that it's pretty unlawful to read licenced maps which someone has paid good money for, that's the whole point of the lock, but I also see the other side where if someone pays for a map they should have ownership of it and be free to use it in whatever way they see fit.. Quite tempting to see other peoples maps but there are plenty other off the shelf maps on teh OS market (perticularly on US sites) for comparing different maps to see what mappers are doing.. All totally legit.. Despite being on the OS side of the fence, OS doesn't have any sort of proper Launch Control or Dual Mapping available.. yet..... WHich ECUTek does have as a stable platform.. Not so much interested in LC but Dual Map woudl be handy...

Hi Andy, Nice to hear that.. My understanding that in order to read / amend ECUTek maps you had to use ECUTek software, and that the licence for the map was held by the mapper/tuner.. So say if you moved to another part of the country and got an further ECUTek "tweak" you would have to pay for a new licence with the new mapper? Or does the licence go with the ECU rather than tied to the software installation on the PC? Also don't most ECUTEk maps now lock themselves down from access from non ECUTek softwares.. So say switchign from ECUTek to open source (although if you already had ECUTek you'd probably go back to it again), would mean having to start with a default map again rather than amendign what was already there. I remember hearing this was an issue with the later PPP ECU's which coudl not be read withotu effectively wiping the map. Or is this an option on ECUTek whether or not to lock it? Genuinly curious as to how it all works..

Nice! Any pics of the Lancia Delta that was suppsoed to be running? (Supported by Bitz Motorsport in Nairn) First local rally I've missed in years... Got 5 vehicles in the drive and only 1+1/2 of them are working.. It's a long assed winter

Not entirely true.. Although some of the newage headlights allow for easy install of HId's in the projector lenses it is still illegal on bugs and blobs! 2 main reasons for this.. 1) No automnatic headlight levelling (not the little switch on the dash, it needs to be completely automatic) 2) No high pressure headlight washing system.. But TBH in my view, the benefit of installing HID's into headlight units that properly support them is a massive increase in safety of the vehicle! As long they are are fitted securely and they are set-up properly not dazzling other road users on normal road conditions I don't see much of a problem generally.. Yes it's still illega, but they pass MOT's (so far) and I generally try keep them clean anyway..

I work down near there, at the Orton Estate... If I hear or see of anythign I'll be sure to be in touch Border Collies can go a fair distance if they want to... Unforunately mines so stubborn she only comes back when she wants (Wimmen!), seems quite happy going for a run through the woods out of sight.. Never actually lost her though..

D'oh! Yeah was a double I got.. Maybe it was the "last one" at the front....

I'd be happy with that Haven't stuck my name down on the other thread yet as car still not 100%.. Not been happy with it since the last highland fling Still got a couple months yet..

Not sure about he hawkeye but on the bugs you disable the alarm as normal, open door put key in ignition, turn it to stage 2 (DO NOT try tot start the car) then switch ignition off, remove key, close door and set the alarm.. This sequence disabled the interior sensors IIRC to internal movement does not set off the alarm.. There'a also a button on the alarm keypad you can use to disable the internal sensorts you manualy re-enable them but don't know it off hand.. But of course, remember to leave a window open

Good Result! BTW - Why you not a SIDC member?

Very good point there! If your aiming for bragging rights with BHP's and lb-ft's then running on a rolling road is your best bet, it's "clinical" and where the numbers will be read on.. Whereas, real road mapping allows you to have the car set-up for hte way you drive.. Sure you may not have the most powerful car on the street, but by god you'll probably have the most drivable in the real world! IMHO.. Rolling roads aren't bad... They are good for diagnosis and testing and a sort of laboritory environment, but it's not the real world. Also agree with the view that there's no point skimping on a couple hundred quid just to get a car mapped.. The priority is more the quality of the person tuning your car rather than the software they use.. A bad map can destroy a car pretty quickly! Sorry to pick AndyF's name again but I'm sure if he used open source stuff, his work would be just as good.. But he uses EcuTek, which he probably feels more comfortable using, and rightly so, it is a more complete package of tools.. I haven't read the ScoobyNet thread but if someone has a link to it I wouldn't mind a looksee (too lazy to go find it )

RB320's have Bilstein Shocks, and perform very well, quite firm yet smooth out the bumps very well! But the origonal ones are very chocolately and suffer from the clunk of death.. Thankfully they have a warranty service in place where owners "should" be able to get them replaced under warranty but some dealers are more willing than others to replace them.. Fortunately As of last year (IIRC) they have fixed the problem and more recent replacements are more solid.. But still some customers having trouble getting dealers to replace them I've got KYB's on my bugeye but they only lasted about 8 months before going squishy.. Their not too bad but not as good as they could be.. Looking towards fitting BC coilovers sometime in the future.. at least they are adjustable if I find them too hard or soft

That's true as long it still has the same plate that it arrived in the coutnry with.. if the Numberplate is replaced for whatever reason I believe it must conform to the UK standard sizes.. Only exception being cars classes as "historic" vehicles which are allowed the white on black numberplates if it had those origonally.. TBH - I have more of an issue with dodgy fonts and blatently confusing backgrounds than the overall size of the thing.. As long as it's easily readable by humans and ANPR systems I don't see a problem.. IMHO
-
That's pretty bad for a new car... Noticed someone did that to my bugeye when I swapped the plates over, but to do that on a new car is piss poor!!

That's the guy... Not to be confused with Doctor Who

Generally speakign the open source stuff will do the same job as a licenced software.. What you don't get with open source is the guarantee "if" the software cocks up the flashing of the ECU.. But to my knowledge this has "never" happened..! Open Source will also not lock your ECU so other people can access it, also significantly cheaper than licenced alternatives. But... Most professional tuners used ECUTek which does lock the ECU and means any future tweaks need to go back to an ECUTek tuner.. As for quality of maps, both software types change the same data tables on the ECU's and the end result is the same. It's more down to the tuner at the end of the day. I use Open Source stuff for mapping my own car and not had any problems.. Just more horses and torquey things (Did loose about 6 months of my life learning it all to make sure I "fully" understood what I was doing) Don't whatever you do go for off the shelf maps.. Each map is tuned to individual cars.. even cars fitted with the same mods have different tolerences!! If you are looking for the best map in the country! You can't go wrong with Andy Forrest!

http://www.newreg.co.uk/services/dvla_numb...lic_plate_rules As long as you keep 11mm roudn the edge you'll be legal! My one is shorter than standard. THe full width looked daft with 5 charaters, WAY too much white space.. so cropped it down while still keepign a standard size gap gap between edge of plate and edge of lettering.. As a result it doesn't look like a short plate because it's in proportion so a standard plate so looks normal. I also made up a legal limit one with just the 11mm border but didn't like it...

Yeah think there was a 10% discount managed for SIDC Members ... Just found it: "Dave has been good enough to offer a 10% discounted labour rate (£36 instead of £40) for all SIDC members on production of a valid membership card." Thanks to ScoobyDoom for arranging this
-
Not dealt with them much as yet.. Went up a few months ago looking for parts but couldn't help me out.. I think ScoobyDoom got them to do a couple things with his car. I was considering asking them to do my next service (little overdue) but havent got roudn to it yet... Scooby spent more time off the road than on it since Rrrallyee I'm in the same mind that they run their own impreza's in the SRC so It'd be a safe assumption they know their way aroudn them.. Let us know how you get on with them! Also see of they are still building the Murtaya.. Since andreneline motorsport wen't belly up late last year

That's Awesome!!!

Good point.. didn't mean it to sound like a flame... But since this is turning into an Oz porn thread: (not my car.. just got excited by the wheels... )
