RA Dunk Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Slightly off topic, but is that engine pictured the new Diesel?? Bandit dont think the new deisel is getting released till 2009 or something, could be wrong though [:^)]
chris_c201 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I think it does look ok, my only issue is it looks kind of run of the mill.. bit like a cross between a 1 series and a new Clio 197 with that rear diffuser.... Hmmmm, prefer the hawkeye but who knows, it may grow on me...
johns Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I don't believe there is a saloon version to come. I understand the new car will only come in a 5 door hatch model. The main reason for this is that in percentage of voerall sales, almost all the cars that the Impreza is competing with in the same "class", are all hatchbacks. Eg Audi A3, Golf, Astra etc. The hatchback design is just more flexible and acceptable for most people these days. If the basic models can compete on price, especially with the new diesel engine coming, then there could be a potentially massive increase in sales, both in the private sector and also companies, hire car companies etc which wouldn't normally look at the Impreza. A big increase in overall sales and market share is what Subaru are looking for, and if a subdued 5 door hatch helps them achieve that, then this can only be a good thing. Of course, better performance in the WRC would also help by a slightly more compact car as well. If Subaru produce a performance diesel version of the Impreza (say 170bhp with oodles of torque, low CO2 emissions, and 40+mpg), with 4WD and good handling, then I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the best seller in the range. On public roads it should be able to keep up with most cars. It would lose out of course on track and overseas autobahns compared to the petrol STi models, but for most people that's only 1% or less of their driving. I'm not keen on the looks based on the current "photos", but I'll reserve my judgement until I see a real car in the flesh. John
the squiggle Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Would the diesel powered varient be called the STD Anyhoo, i am still liking it WR Blue with a nice carbon front splitter and and meaty WR style rear wing. Topped off with a set of BBS rims, now hubba hubba but it still aint a classic
dipsy Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Don't like the look of the exterior .Under the bonnet looks to plasticy
plsteve Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Was in Town and County today and it looks like it is going to look like that. Designed by some Sapnish guy who does one of hte Seat range (Altea I think) Dont know how accurate this is but found a pic of the STI which looks a good bit nicer http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/sportha...ru-impreza-sti/ Steve.
thefastone Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Hmmmm Ive been trying to open that link for the poast hour and a half now, this connection sucks!!!! [:'(]

gus the bus Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Seat ibiza rear end![+o(] well seeing the guy used to design the bloody things[:S] thats just WRONG!!!!!!
scouk Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 That's poor.. Although the images I saw still seem more concept art rather than real life images. Will wait until 5th april for proper pics. Having said that it's probably not too far of the mark. Just really hope they will make a saloon version... Even with that it just looks liek any other car on the road. Very poor! Impreza soon to become an "uncool" car? Seriously hope not!Yet another copy cat car using the same basic body shape/design? Seriously hope not. Despite the 4wd mechanics and boxer engine (assuming thei'll still exist) you really have to ask what's the point of owning one!! The new Evo Is the dogs danglies as far as looks go IMHO and I'm a self confessed scooby addict from very early on! Admittedly I wasn't 100% keen on the bugeye when it first came out. Too much like a toyota corrola at the front but looking aroudn it was an impreza. Absolutely loved the hawkeye when it first came out. But the 08 model. So far Yuk! But need to see real photos.
westtra Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 looks like a bmw 1 series had a 3 some with a rover 25 and an ibiza
maxpower Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 STI Version http://www.motortrend.com/future/future_ve...s/photo_01.html
RA Dunk Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 STI Version http://www.motortrend.com/future/future_ve...s/photo_01.html i do like the look of that though, specially the flared wheel arches [H][H] , is that a front mount i see there as well?? [:^)]
scoobysailor Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 looks like a bmw 1 series had a 3 some with a rover 25 and an ibiza I thought it looked a wee bit like a smaller squashed BMW X3 from the side........I geuss it will need to be one of these for me next http://www.adrenalinemotorsport.co.uk/factory-built.htm
Hepy Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Looking at that monstrosity makes me feel a bit queasy.Time to go and put my name down for an Evo X me thinks.[]
david_taylor Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Even the STI does absolutely nothing for me. If its true I think they will lose a lot of customers. I will be trading in my classic in a year and hope to get a hawk eye around 04-05 plate. After that, good chance I will be crossing over to the evo darkside! Dave
st3ph3n Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Dave, earliest hawkeye is likely to be either a 55 or 06.
david_taylor Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Dave, earliest hawkeye is likely to be either a 55 or 06. Cheers Stephen. Thats the plan, ignore my ignorance on the plates though! [:$]
ormiboy Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 looks like a MG ZR, bad news. Still, i will wait for the proper boy to be thrashed and reviewed before i start to slate it too badly. Willie
st3ph3n Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Autos...e.photopanel..3. It's on Edmunds now with real looking shots, so it must be official. Longer and wider - not what I was expecting.
imprezapete Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Im shocked and sad to see that Subaru think this is a worthy sucessor to the hawkeye.I never got my impreza for the reason of its Rally sucess so that means very little to me. Oh well next cars a classic by the looks of it now []
tazman Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 mmmmm not sure kind of looks like a New shape Honda Civic crossed with a Ford Focus!
colin_ross Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Take it everyone has seen these ones too? http://www.motorsports.autoblog.com/2007/0...d-info-surface/
