  1. How on earth can you cover your several million acre goat estate in an 800cc Fiat? Surely the landed gentry such as yourself would at very least take the Range Rover I'm currently away for work AGAIN and working in Staffs. Arranged a hire car as it's a fair trek from Brum airport to the hotel and 10 miles from hotel to the customer I'll be spending the next few days with. They've given me one of these... I feel I should jack in the day job and become a hairdresser...
  2. I've added a wee countdown clock to the Gathering website. Just above the main menu
  3. I should have publicised this better. It's my fault. I'm doing some work on the shop at present. That error is due to me upgrading some files which require reconfiguring the server. To make the changes take effect I have to stop and start the web server which will mean the site dying for a short time. I only want to do that once so am waiting till I've got all the changes made. Sorry
  4. wedmonds does make some interesting points, but I'd like to repsond from a technical perspective. Forum software was never designed as a "real-time" chat facility. It was designed so users could exchange views, advice, opinions etc, but not in real-time. Of course the internet has evolved and things have changed since the concept of Forums came about, but they still aren't really great for "real-time" chat. For starters they don't update automatically. You're constantly sat there pressing F5 to see if anyone has replied. This does place additional load on the web server. We're lucky here in that the SIDC web server is way more powerful than we need so we can handle folk doing that, but on other sites it may not be acceptable. It's also not about the number of posts. Forums should be about quality, not quantity. That's why the live chat experiment was introduced - so folk could have their chat and banter in real time, but keep the forums for the more serious stuff. It also limits the size of the Forum database which is critical should we ever have to go through a site recovery if the server failed. We've no intention of changing anything so you can feel free to carry on using Forums, chat or whatever. I'm just explaining things from my boring Admin side
  5. Ed - really sorry to hear this. Have you considered/enquired about a Motability car? I don't know the ins and outs of what's involved, but I know they were great and really helpful after my Dad had his stroke. They're certainly worth talking to and it might let you keep the Scoob. My folks now have a brand new Ford something sat in the drive (I did ask what model, but my Mum could only tell me it was silver! lol). The downside is it's the first brand new car they've ever had and my Mum sticks to their old car as she's too afraid to drive the new one. Women!
  6. It is However, I have been threatened with Police action for trying to persuade a Forum user to drop a controversial opinion for his own good and before he incurred the wrath of others. That Forum user is now trying desperately to obtain my personal details. If anybody is contacting the Police in the immediate future it will be me as the obsession is becoming uncomfortable...
  7. Nah. Just been through a serious interrogation session with THE TAYSIDE POLICE FORCE. They don't hold back. "Did you threaten this person who has made a complaint against you?" "No" "We didn't think so, but are duty bound to ask anyway. We'll now charge him with wasting police time"
  8. TBH, I was going to PM you about it, but couldn't be bothered. lol. It IS against the Forum rules and there's really no excuse for it. You have a full keyboard in front of you and no message length restrictions like you have on a phone. Please TRY and use English on here. You'll find you get better responses if you do as a lot of folk just skip anything written in text-talk bollocks as they can't be bothered trying to decipher it
  9. I'm only on remand. They're a bit more lenient on us and they're kinda struggling to prove I'm a paid-up member of the Nazi Party Right you bunch of whingers! You now have a Forum rather than a sticky topic. Use it - or else it's off to ze Russian front vith you Now, I must get back to Bubba. He's in the showers and needs help picking up the soap.
  10. Tell you what guys - you can keep the chatroom if 20withascooby uses English on these forums Text talk is against Forum guidelines and is bloody annoying I'll be watching
  11. Oh FFS! Fussy buggers!
  12. Only just spotted this. Apparently I've been too busy being a Forum Nazi and letting my powers go to my head Of course it can be created. Ask and ye shall receive Pinned topic for WIY stuff now created here
  13. Only just spotted this topic. I did put a chat package online a few months ago for a test group of people to try before deciding whether to go for it site-wide. It's not skinned to match the rest of the site yet, but it's pretty good and offers real-time chat without cluttering Forum topics. It wasn't publicised widely and I never followed up on it to see what folk thought so it kinda died, but it's still there. Feel free to give it a spin. I've created a permanent Kent Scoobies Chatroom, but you're also free to create your own temporary ones. It's integrated with the forums so will use your Forum username http://forums.sidc.co.uk/chat
  14. Sorry - been giving Grant updates on stats, but never though to give the rest of you an update. My bad! Given that we're still in the VERY early stages, things are looking very good. At this point 198 people have signed up to the News Mailing List and 150 have registered interest for the event itself. I know from email addresses that some of those signed up to the mailing list are webmasters of other Club sites so hopefully they're updating their sites with the news. The most popular article on the site, the "About The McRae Gathering" has had 1068 views. We're happy with the level of interest at the moment as it's only going to grow as things ramp up
  15. I'll add it to the list on the McRae site Thanks guys. If you come across any more, keep posting
  16. Damned good point! Should I ban her?
  17. As Ac!d says, it was more than apparent why the topic was deleted. The original poster of the topic has been PM'd with my apologies and reasons for the deletion. I'm sure he'll understand. That is about all I can do - I cannot PM every single person who contributed to a topic with the reasons for deleting it, nor would I want to. I can't say any more as I need to hide under the bed pending Interpol kicking the door in
  18. No. Not to touch goats, base or anything else, but to tell me I'll be hearing from Tayside Police for pulling the sticker thread I'm closing this topic as anything I say may be relied on in court etc...
  19. All Travelodges are per room, not per person
  20. Clothing is being investigated. Watch this space!
  21. When I did the map Google routefinder reckoned roughly 430 miles on the planned route. However, that route isn't set in stone at present and may change after the recce is done
  22. Ultimate death threat was the "I have a Magnum. If you ever come to a (Motorbike) Trial in the USA you are a dead man". I've since been to two World Trials in the USA and have yet to hear the words "Make my day, punk" I think I might have misunderstood and he actually meant he had an ice cream he intended using in anger Yeah, I've had the lawsuit threats too and they never come to anything. More keyboard warriors
  23. Thank you Jacqui This is all sorted out now. You now have a new chat thread with the most recent 3 pages from the previous one so you can pick up where you left off. For technical reasons it isn't good to have a 700+ page forum topic. I'll probably do this every six months or so or when I think the chat topic is getting too big for the database, but will always create you a new topic and copy the most recent stuff over to it. Note that your post count isn't affected by this - it's just a housekeeping exercise Cheers Andy
  24. Mate, you get keyboard warriors on every Forum - most of them think they're top bollock after two cans of Top Deck. Trust me - I've been an Admin on big forums for... blimey... 7 years now and seen it all. I've even had death threats for deleting posts. Did it bother me? Did it buggery. Just laugh them off as the idiots they are. If you let them bother you and quit over it then they win. Don't jack it in over this.
  25. Probably because you were very close to Ian Grieve. The dealership is in Camelon. Scoobs usually aplenty through there
