  1. Perhaps I could offer a suggestion.. There's a time and a place for going quick, and it's not on the public road. If you really want to have a go.. book yourself a track day. Plug.
  2. In what? The Impreza is a standard UK turbo, which I think gives me about 208 bhp. The Panda puts out somewhere in the region of 33 bhp (or did 17 years ago when it was new), so let's say about 12bhp by now.. and probably much less as the wheels. Cheers, Plug
  3. Dunno, had gone in the shop by then. It could have gone something like this, though: BTG1: "Now that's a nice car" BTG2: "Shame about the fat old git driving it" Cheers, Plug
  4. Doubly well done to Kim and Andi then.. I'm sure I've only stuck at it because Mrs. Plug gave up last year. It's bad enough when we go to the pub (although it's an opportunity to get some passive smoking in ), couldn't have done it if the house smelt of fags. The car is also cleaned out, got in it recently when it had been sat outside in the sun all day with the windows closed - the only thing it smelled of was cheap plastic. Factory fresh, then... Cheers, Plug
  5. I am still clean... Haven't had one since the day I stopped 5 months ago, I am amazed with myself. Still get the cravings though, they aren't very frequent now but I know of smokers who gave up 20 years ago, some say they still want one every so often... Next target is to get through to 12 months off the fags, then I can get downgraded to non-smoker on the life insurance policy etc...! Cheers, Plug
  6. Went up to the shops a few minutes ago for essential supplies (i.e. beer ). Parked up the car outside the row of shops, just as teenage chav in his cavalier (complete with scabby alloys and loud exhaust) was departing. As I walk towards the shop, two blonde teenage girls walk out and are spotted by the young hooligan, who therefore has to do a big wheelspin when driving off to "impress the ladeez". BTG1: "What a dick" BTG2: "Yeah, it's not like he's even got a cool car" I had to stifle my laughter.. clearly teenage girls are better judges of character than I thought.... Cheers, Plug
  7. Hello there, Another one running on Goodyears here.. can recommend them 100%. Was on Bridgestones before which were very twitchy, I wasn't happy with the way the car drove at all. The opinions at the time were split between Toyos and Goodyears, with 50% in each camp. Nothing to choose as far as I could tell, so went with the Goodyears as they were £5 a corner cheaper.. Unless you are doing track days every weekend, I doubt you'll notice either way. Cheers, Plug
  8. I agree with Rozi on this one, I own a wagon so I feel I should stick up for them.. but that's a moose. The saloon looks a lot tidier. Cheers, Plug
  9. My local Shell garage has been out of action for a couple of weeks as they are replacing, well, everything really. All the pumps have been torn up, the tanks have been dug out, etc. This is not good as it's the only place for miles around that sells optimax. I have been forced to downgrade to Texaco super as it's the best I can get.. I have been topping up on a little and often basis.. a tenner a time, we all know how far that goes. Today the Mrs. and I went shopping to a town some 20 miles distant, but I know of a BP garage on the outskirts.. result. A tankful of ultimate will tide me over, thinks I, until the Shell garage is refurbished. I hope it bloody does.. 99.9p a litre!!! Perhaps next time I'll try filling it up with something cheaper, such as 20yo single malt Grrr... Plug
  10. I think they should have shoehorned the motor into that Bedford Rascal campervan in the background. That would have been a laugh.... Cheers, Plug
  11. I gave up on Bill's products a few months ago and bought a mac.. Never looked back, brilliant bit of kit for what I need. Still have a PC for when I need it but hardly ever turn it on these days. The 2Mb broadband link helps it all jog along at a fair pace too Cheers, Plug
  12. I used to have a ginger and white tabby cat.. completely mad bugger, but the best and most entertaining pet I ever had. He's been dead all of 20 years now, but I'll never forget him.. Cheers, Plug
  13. What kind of ponce buys a car like that, then sticks it in a garage and does 54 miles in 16 years?? I bet it never even got warmed up. Cars are made to be driven, that makes me ... Plug
  14. Had a big lie-in. Watched the Grand Prix. Played with my computer for a bit. Took the car out for a spin. Built a chest of drawers. Took some stuff to the dump. Had a massive roast lamb dinner. Watched Top Gear, whilst drinking beer. No real point to this, but just to say the weather may have been crap, but I've had a great day.. Cheers, Plug
  15. Bit nicer than my second car.. 750cc Fiat Panda But Mrs Plug loves it and it's cheaper than a Porsche.. actually, it's cheaper than walking.. Cheers, Plug
  16. I already know what the next one will be. Teutonic 4.3 litre V8 with a 3-pointed star on the bonnet. Either an AMG C-class or a CLK430. Now I'm over 40, I think I can carry it off ... Unless I go for the screaming 6 cylinder option and buy a BMW M coupe.. who needs practicality anyway?? Cheers, Plug
  17. Are they the new ultra-low profile 245/0 VR17s? I don't think they fill the arches very well... Cheers, Plug
  18. Hmm, can I remember... Vauxhall Viva 68/F Alfa Romeo Guilietta SS 67/E Hillman Avenger 74/M Fiat 127 75/N Mini 1000 79/V Audi Coupe 83/Y Daihatsu Charmant 83/Y Nissan Bluebird 87/E Toyota Supra 89/F Mazda 323F 94/L Impreza Turbo 96/P Citroen ZX 94/L Mazda Xedos 96/N Impreza Turbo 98/R Think I may have missed a couple off but that's the gist of it... Cheers, Plug
  19. I've seen cars advertised by this lot before.. looks like the kind of outfit that should be given a wide berth. If you have got a sense of humour, have a look at the body-kitted Mercedes 500SL they are (still) advertising.. I think that has been up for sale for about 6 months. I wonder why?? Cheers, Plug
  20. Hello and welcome Don't know about the "piston slap" conundrum, I own a '98UK Turbo wagon and TBH, yes it's a bit noisy on start up but it hasn't given me any problems since I bought it 18+ months ago. It has been well looked after (full main dealer history since day one), they are tough motors. Mine is still in standard trim though, I wouldn't like to comment on what happens to them when you get the modding bug.. Enjoy the car! They may not be the cheapest vehicles in the world to run but can't think of anything that gets near the price/performance ratio... Cheers, Plug
  21. Supercar? Not a hope, I'm afraid. Huge fun, not expensive to buy (although the running costs are a bit steep ) but far too practical to qualify. I got a fridge freezer in the back of my wagon last weekend. As a contrast, I saw my first Gallardo on the road outside my house the other day. He was giving it some (not clever in a 30 limit) but I could almost forgive him for the howl it made... god, what a noise. Hairs on the back of the neck and all that. The Lambo probably can't carry anything bigger than a packet of chewing gum, costs a fortune to buy, you couldn't park it anywhere.... but I want one. *That's* a supercar. Cheers, Plug
  22. Completely misunderstood that bit about racing a tranny... They could do worse than bring that Sabine on board though, maybe the next VBH... (I still prefer the original tho') Cheers, Plug
  23. Hate to rain on your parade, but I looked at trading mine in recently. From what I was offered, I'd reckon yours would be worth £2500- £3000. Probably less than you thought.. Plug
  24. I've got a sign in the back of the Scoob that says "I speed up, swerve about and lean on the horn for horses". Just kidding, there's no way I'd want a fat arsed 2 tonner falling on my bonnet when I try to squeeze past in a narrow lane. And that's just the "Laydees" riding the damn things, or round here at least.. Cheers, Plug
