  1. Quality.. Think I might get a set of them seat covers.. and some of the £4.99 'puter speakers on page1. Can't think why I paid all that money for the Bose ones I've got plugged in at the moment.. Cheers, Plug
  2. I believe that if you are part of the so-called "travelling" community there is no requirement for you to display a valid road fund licence disc on your vehicle. This is also the case for having insurance and a valid MOT certificate. If you are in this position and are stopped by the police you may simply claim that your human rights are being infringed. The police will then leave you alone to do as you wish, whilst honest hard-working taxpayers look on in dismay and wonder why they f***ing bother. Plug
  3. Well, call me devil's advocate but I think the FIA were absolutely right not to bend over for Michelin. It was entirely Michelin's fault for providing a substandard product, how much money goes into development of these tyres?. They screwed up, not once but twice, as they flew over a second batch of tyres from France on the Saturday night, which they also couldn't guarantee were up to the job. Bridgestone played it safe, came up with something that could best be described as conservative, but did they go bang after 10 laps? No. At least Michelin were big enough to admit they had dropped an *enormous* bollock, and not allow the race to go ahead with a possibility that someone could end up injured or dead. They will pay heavily for it in terms of the bad PR it's generated, and may well be unceremoniously kicked out of F1 at the end of the season. Knowing the litigious nature of our American cousins, they will probably also be sued to high heaven for loss of revenue, hurt feelings, someone stubbing their toe, etc. It is a real shame that the American fans who had paid good money to see a race got stiffed, and to be honest I think F1 willl find it nearly impossible to recover from this little incident in the USA. That said, F1 doesn't have much of a following in America anyway, they much prefer their home-grown version of motorsport - bang it in top and drive round and round for hours on end seems to be the height of excitement. The Americans will never really be interested in a series that mostly takes place in Europe anyway, and F1's interest in breaking the American market is entirely to do with the amount of dollars they can generate and has little or nothing to do with what's best for the sport. Yours cynically, Plug
  4. Hi, There's no way I would buy an Impreza on eBay, but it's your money.. Bear in mind that it's possible to pick them up for not much money now, but they are expensive to run, and *very* expensive to fix when they go wrong. If you really want to go for it, then follow the golden rules.. 1. Contact the seller and try and judge for yourself if they're genuine. If you've got any doubts, walk away. 2. Ask them if they are prepared to have the car professionally inspected before you hand over the cash. If they say no for any reason, walk away. 3. If you get the car inspected and it comes back with a report saying it needs anything more than minor work, walk away. There's lots of them out there. 4. If it's cheap, there's probably a reason for it. Buying a "cheap" Impreza is not a smart idea unless you really enjoy being poor. Spend a bit more and buy one that has been looked after (they are reliable if they're cared for & serviced regularly). 5. Get it right, you'll have a car that puts a huge grin on your face every time you turn the key. Get it wrong, you'll have a car that makes you bang your head on the steering wheel. Tread carefully.. hope you find the right one.... Cheers, Plug
  5. I've got a lathe... I could ruin your discs for you at very little cost, as I am a crap at turning.. I know some very good ones locally, however, and I'm only about 30 miles away.. how much does it normally cost? Cheers, Plug
  6. 2 weeks of American-sized portions Have a good one! Cheers, Plug.
  7. Greetings, all. Been out and about in the car, rather than just the usual run to/from work (all of 5 miles each way, and half the time I take the Panda). Nice to give it a run and clear the tubes, so to speak, even better to do it when the sun's shining.. Saw some other Scoobys and got a few waves (you don't get that if you drive a Mondeo), going though a housing estate this afternoon and bunch of lads who were kicking a ball about stopped and gave me the thumbs-up. Good to know the youth of today still has some taste. The only downside is that I filled up Thursday night and now I have an empty tank again . Another £40 down the tubes. Oh well, money well spent.. Cheers, Plug
  8. The latest rental car.. Have been driving a Skoda Superb for the last couple of days. Although I think "Superb" is over-selling it, not a bad motor at all. The worst I could say is that the interior is a bit gloomy. Given that it was a rental (and therefore, no doubt, the cheapest spec available), it was well kitted, huge boot/rear legroom, not *too* slow (I wouldn't call it quick, but it kept up with the traffic).. I have driven plenty worse. If you know someone in the market for a big saloon, tell them to have a look.. maybe no image, but a lot of metal for the money.. Cheers, Plug
  9. IT jokes.. sad. OK, then.. What goes "Pieces of seven, pieces of seven"? A parrotty error. I'll get me coat... Cheers, Plug
  10. Prices on their arse.. amen to that. £4300 was what I was offered.. who knows what ropey examples are going for at the moment. Pocket money I dare say, our beloved scoobys will be falling into the hands of the chav community in ever increasing numbers. Having looked around tonight at what is available on autotrader etc., I have to say (albeit through gritted teeth) that that is all the Scoob is probably worth as a trade-in at the moment. Car dealers may be scum (and second-rate scum, at that) but they still have to earn a living, and I have a knack of buying stuff just before a market crash... Cheers, Plug
  11. Greetings, citizens. Just a quick bitch to complain about the p*ss poor state of subaru prices.. didn't realise how bad it is has got. Been to look at another motor today (a Merc, I'm afraid..), very tempted until I got the offer on mine as a trade in.. So, mine is as follows: '98 UK turbo wagon, unmodified, excellent cond, maintained regardless of cost since day one (FSSH and I've got a folder an inch thick full of invoices). Aircon, tracker, and CD multichanger, all the good stuff that people look for when buying. Just over 72K miles, had the 90K service (£700!) last year. Nearly new Goodyear F1's all round. I paid £8K for it not 18 months ago.. your challenge, people, is to guess what I was offered for it. No guesses will be considered to be a binding offer.. but if anyone is after a classic wagon at a bargain price, now is the time to sing out.. Cheers, Plug
  12. Another one who started with a Viva.. 1967 HB SL90 with the "sports seats".. black vinyl that burnt your a*se in the summer. It was such a piece of piss to work on though.. you could fix it with a spoon. Happy days. Cheers, Plug
  13. Here's another tip.. Clicky Use this as the main computer now, sat in the living room. Quiet, plenty quick enough for web/email/office stuff, stable, no worries (yet!) about viruses. Still have the PC for heavy number crunching but the more I use the mac the more I like it. Cheers, Plug
  14. Oh to be 30 again.... Have a good one and enjoy it while it lasts... Cheers, Plug
  15. Another thumbs up for the Puma here, mate of mine used to have one and you really can chuck them about - big grin factor. Trouble is, the chassis is so good it really needs another 50 horsepower.... Cheers, Plug
  16. What do the anti-virus programs report they've found?? Cheers, Plug
  17. Still having trouble? It could be a virus, or possibly the site you visited had a malicious script running if you're getting loads of pop-ups. I assume you are running IE.. try closing it then right-clicking on the icon on the desktop and choosing "properties". Reset your home page to "about:blank", apply that and restart IE again. Might help a bit.. Cheers, Plug
  18. Looks v. nice.. The only thing I would say is that I have a mate who had one that colour a few years back.. bought because it was very low mileage! Unfortunately, he is the world's least mechanically sympathetic person and it was ragged relentlessly... I hope you haven't bought that one! I'm pretty sure it had bigger wheels, though, so you're probably safe.. Cheers and enjoy it! Plug
  19. And, more particularly.. cheap ones. The crappy Panda failed its MOT today on a few minors, one of which was the fact that the front tyres were shagged (which I already knew). So, whilst the other bits and pieces needed a bit of spanner twirling and not much else to sort out, I don't know a way of regrowing tread on tyres, so it was off down the local tyre 'n' exhaust place for 2 new ones. Valves.. 2.98 each Balance.. 5.00 each Disposal of the old carcasses.. 1.00 each New tyres... 14.00 each!!!! Read it and weep... Cheers, Plug
  20. I am now up to six weeks.. not had a single one since the day I stopped. Had one piece of nicotine gum and that's it. I still want one ALL THE BLOODY TIME though. This is murder. But I am determined that I ain't going to give in, I've gone this far so too late to back out now, but 22 years of addiction and habit aren't giving up without a fight.. I have noticed how much further the cash in my wallet seems to go though, so it's not all bad. Reckon I have saved £200 at least so far. Cheers, Plug
  21. Changed the case on the PC a couple of months ago for a "silent" one with big, slow fans.. chopped in the graphics card for a fanless one and changed the processor heatsink for a huge copper jobby.. it was much better, but still not what I'd call "silent". I could have made it silent by taking the plug out.. I bought a Mac mini as it seemed that it would do nicely for general web-browsing/email in the living room.. and it is quieter than a church mouse that's been given a severe bollocking and told to wind its neck in. I've found it easy come to terms with OS X as a "user", it's happy days all round. I still have the PC for when I need it. But for most of the time, it can sit there being a shelf... Cheers, Plug
  22. In the paper, says Tom Ford in an Arial Atom. Tom Ford? Did they make a special widebody edition? Cheers, Plug
  23. Hmm, drove one of them years ago when my boss bought one. Quite nippy! Handy in the corners as well, you should have fun.. Being on the short side, I did feel a bit like I was lying in the bath though.. the window sills are quite high Probably OK if you're 6 foot though.. You've done well to find one with that mileage, look after it and you shouldn't get hammered by depreciation like us Scooby owners Enjoy, Plug
