  1. Greetings, citizens. Well, the time has come. First thing tomorrow I do my last journey in the Scooby, 50 odd miles to go and pick up the Merc. Although I'm looking forward to getting the new car, I think the dealer will have to prise the Subaru keys out of my clenched fingers.... I've been driving the Scoob at every opportunity this week, far more than I normally do (I tend to use Mrs. Plug's Panda during the week for going to work and general running about), just because I've known that I won't have it much longer []. It's reminded me what a great piece of kit the Scoob is, easy to drive as a Civic when you're not in a hurry, yet goes like stink when you are (and grips like a limpet that's been superglued to its rock at the same time). Mine being a wagon, it's even practical as well.. got our new cooker in the back the other week, still with all the plastic and polystyrene on. It's a tough act to follow, that Mercedes better be good! So it's bye-bye after 2-1/2 very happy years, although I'll still be about on the forums as you're such a nice bunch []. Oh, and if you see a dark metallic blue C43 thundering up behind you in your mirrors, be a good sort and get out of the way, would you? [] Take it easy peeps, Cheers, Plug
  2. I'll have another go at the clicky... Tesco SUL clicky Cheers, Plug
  3. Like a number of people on here, I've being using Tesco SUL since it was introduced at the local supermarket. How many of you know it may be 99 RON but it ain't all petrol... Found this on another forum, I don't remember reading anything about this on here but apologies if it has been mentioned before.. more in the article below.. http://technology.guardian.co.uk/weekly/st...1710219,00.html Cheers, Plug
  4. Greetings, citizens. A number of people seem to be jumping ship at the moment, and I'm afraid as of today I'm including myself in that category. [] After 2 and half years in the Scoob, I've decided to move on and today agreed to trade it in for the new Plugmobile.. (cue drum roll) A C class Mercedes! I can sense your indifference... but in my defence it is an AMG C43.. 305 of the finest german V8 horses shoe-horned under the bonnet. Test drove it today and it is a bit of a beastie, the auto box blunts the acceleration a bit off the line (however it still hits 60 in 5.5, allegedly) but when it's moving and you plant your right foot it hurls itself at the horizon. [] Feels a little heavy after the Scoob as well, I would guess it tips the scales at 1600 Kg at least so it is giving away 300 Kg or so.. but it did feel very well planted, ride was supple and comfortable but still firm. The interior.. well, it makes the Scoob look very plastic indeed. But then it did cost over the first owner over £50K.... more leather and carbon fibre than you can shake a stick at. Coming home from the test drive today (50 miles), I did appreciate the Scoob even more, knowing I'll only have it another week.. the route was mostly sweeping A roads, a few twistys and some motorway.. I was pressing on and it handled everything without breaking a sweat. What a great car. I plan on keeping the Merc for a couple of years, but the Scooby experience is hard to beat.. I'm sure one day I'll have another. I'll still be around on the forum unless anyone really objects.. but I can't see that happening here. I don't get around much in the cyber world, but this forum is one of friendliest I've found. Thanks to everyone. Cheers, Plug
  5. Well, I've clearly screwed up the clicky, but you get the drift...
  6. Have a look at this one... [ url=http://www.kempshottcars.co.uk]Kempshott Cars[ /url] Scroll down to the bottom of the page and have a look at the Vauxhall Tigra Ex-Works Replica. Lovely motor... not! Cheers, Plug
  7. Sadly not, Nobby. I'd love a 993 (last of the real Porsches) but I'm struggling to even find a decent 964 for the money I've got to spend. The boxster has a fair few miles on the clock but it has been well looked after and looks promising... Cheers, Plug
  8. Could it be rocker box gasket leaking? Mine started doing that after the last service. Probably not helped by the garage overfilling it with oil, twats. Best get it checked out, whatever. Back to the garage.... Cheers, Plug
  9. No hairdresser gags, please. I've seen quite a nice looking one for sale that I'm thinking of going to have a look at. I've driven a few 911s but never a Boxster, anyone know if they are any good? I've heard they handle quite tidily.... And in my defence it is the 3.2S I'm interested in.. so 260 brake and 60 in 5.5 seconds, not too shabby [] Cheers, Plug
  10. I got none right. Mrs Plug got 3 out of 4. What does that say about the way she thinks??? Cheers, Plug
  11. Damn good price with no NCB. Bet you are well chuffed. Cheers, Plug
  12. Well, as I finally managed to quit last year (and have no intention of re-starting) I could just shrug my shoulders and go "doesn't affect me". The problem I have is with the damn nanny state government interfering in people's lives yet again.. if they are so determined to protect us from ourselves, why not just make tobacco a class A drug. I'm told that it's easier to break a heroin habit than quit smoking (thankfully, I'm not in a position to make that comparison). But they won't do that, because a) they would have to fill an enormous tax hole, they would hugely annoy the big business partners that bankroll the political parties to further their own interests; and c) they would completely alienate a significant proportion of the voting population.. political suicide. So yet again we get the thin end of the wedge - a thrown-together solution that no one in government could agree on; that will be poorly and unequally implemented; and that will put the backs up of a large number of people who were breaking no laws. Bend over and take it, you lot. Once the row over this subsides, it'll be time for another bite of the shit sandwich. Where did we put that proposal for GPS-based speed monitors in all passenger vehicles. Speed kills, you know... I'll step down off my soapbox now, before the secret police arrive and take me away for "re-education". Plug
  13. Best programme on telly at the moment. Shame there are only 2 more episodes to go [] Cheers, Plug
  14. Waved goodbye today to the old Fiat Panda that I bought for Mrs. Plug some 18 months ago. Advertised it in the in the local rag, it was snapped up by a young lad who has just passed his test and liked the idea of group 1 insurance.. sod the street cred! Good luck to him.. So, total cost of ownership for that time - Bought for £280 Fix knackered bonnet release - £15 (local garage) Fix random electrical gremlin - £ 50 (local garage) 2 new tyres - £42 (local tyre/exhaust place) New cambelt - £14 (fitted by me) New distributor cap and rotor arm - £18 (fitted by me) And sold yesterday for {drum roll} £250!! That's the kind of depreciation I can live with.. Cost per mile - possibly cheaper than walking. The joys of running a banger! Cheers, Plug
  15. Privilege got my business in the end. Saved £70 on the Tesco renewal quote, like for like. That's, what, a tank and half? 300 free miles... [] Cheers, Plug
  16. That time of year again, Tesco wanted to put the premium up since last renewal so I really did the footwork this time. Got it down to.... £299! So there are advantages to a) being old and driving an unmodified car []. Cheers, Plug
  17. I've got a Loox 720 and I think it's the business. I had a Psion 5 for years before that, and never found a PocketPC or Palm that made me consider upgrading until the 720 came out. I'd say the only poor bit on the Loox is the camera - it's a bit poo, even the one on my phone is better. Having said that, I bought mine when they first came out and they may have improved it by now. Apart from that, it's all good - the VGA screen is unbelievable after the 1/4 VGA ones on most PDAs, connectivity - Bluetooth, 802.11 WiFi, IrDA, what more do you want? Takes SD and CF cards so you can shove in 9GB!! of extra storage as well (if you're prepared to pay for it). The only other one on the market that is comparable is the iPAQ 4700, which is the size of a brick compared to the 720. It's a little bit more money than the 710, but I'd thoroughly recommend it. HTH Cheers, Plug
  18. I've not used the 64-bit edition myself, but word is that there's a lot of driver issues. If you decide to go that route, I'd recommend a thorough hardware compatibility check before splashin out 90 beans. Personally, I'd wait for Vista (or I would do if I wasn't a Mac owner and already running a native 64-bit OS []). Cheers, Plug
  19. Saw a bit of the rally on ITV. Not a good start to 2006 for SWRT all round [] Cheers, Plug
  20. Sorry, I've already posted once about this, but who is offering Scooby-friendly premiums at the moment? I've been with Tescos for the last couple of years, but their latest renewal premium is a bit disappointing... so far I've managed to get it down £50 with Privilege, but I'm such a meanie I begrudge paying anything above the bare minimum... [] Cheers, Plug
  21. Looks excellent.. I hear it's easier to learn to fly a real helicopter than a R/C one Cheers, Plug
  22. LOL.. Think I will keep the Panda standard.. don't want the local chavs jumping on the bandwagon. Nice bit of photoshopping though Cheers, Plug
  23. Now that is very pink... I'm a modern man, but to be honest, I don't think I'd be comfortable driving round in something like that, even if it had 300 brake.. Cheers, Plug
