  1. Welcome, nearly. I too came from a CTR (03reg), and have to say you will enjoy it if you change. A different drive - some aspects better some not so. Performance wise the Subaru feels (and is) better and that's me just going for the WRX rather than the STi. Definately very much enjoy having the Scooby is the bottom line, but have fond memories of the CTR. As a comparison to the CTR it will be more expensive in most ways - servicing / fuel / repairs / road tax. Also there's a strong chance you'll be bitten by the mod bug if you stick around on here and of course that's not cheap. If you trade-in and go to a dealer there's a likely possibility you'll end up with (in comparison) an older/higher mileage car but a warranty -v- selling yours private and checking out e.g. the For Sale section on here where you can get a nice example that someone has spent money/time on. Your call as to what you'd prefer there. My last service was the bigger 3year/30k one - £400 from dealer. I'm going back to the dealer this year again for the 4years/40k service (cause I have a credit due) and I think it's about £200ish. There are some very good specialists spread over the country that will do a good job on servicing and mods for less than the dealers. If it is a Subaru Impreza you want then just take your time checking them out to make sure you get the right one, like any 2nd hand car out their there are bad examples about. Don't be afraid to ask questions on here if you need to. A friendly bunch really !
  2. So simple didn't actually think of that !! Not entirely sure of the genuine v replica fitment but worth a shot. Ta. Still also keep em coming though !
  3. Some of the LED's on my thrid brake light on my STi8 replica rear spoiler, the LED bar within the spoiler, have packed in. Not sure if water has managed to get in there, but bottom line a few have ceased working. Obviously when I'm driving and brake I don't see them light up but I just know that it doesn't look good. Must look a bit like when you see someone "smile" and two of their two front are teeth missing ! Anyway, I believe if I have the spoiler removed I can replace just this part, considerably cheaper than replacing the whole spoiler. The original supplier has now moved away from this model of spoiler and despite them being good enough to contact the previous manufacturer (who has also stopped making it!) there were no spares available. To date they have been unsuccessful in finding a replacement. Do you folks have any other possible suggestions / ideas / routes I could go down ?
  4. My insurance is due end of next week....post up how you get on. Okay so not like for like on info but the companies you try. Folk I'm with just now gave a good price last year so will see if they're as good this year...Keith Michaels. Is it not the standard line when your insurance goes up year to year that "premiums as a whole have gone up". More like it's just that they have you as a customer and hope you stay without paying a huge amount of notice to the increase !
  5. Last year I needed the fronts changed on my 2004 WRX. Contacted ASPerformance, as others have noted, and ended up with OEM discs and Pagid pads, Ferrodo would have been just as good I believe. Noticed a difference in the change. Have heard a lot of people suggest dot 5 fluid and braided hoses also as a good improvement - one I'll add in the future.
  6. It's an expensive service but for exact same reasons as you I wanted to be sure that it was given a thorough going over before the warranty ran out. 17k in 3 years !!, and I thought my mileage was low !
  7. Welcome, enjoy your stay. Nice selection of vehicles you had/have there.
  8. Thanks for the nice comments folks. Been away for a few days in it and it is covered in dead beasties now - oh well was never going to stay that clean for ever !! Much easier to maintain now. MikeM - yes there is a bit of Blackfire involved in there, can still feel the wax coat on the bodywork a week on. kloon - unfortunately you seem to be just a little too far away !!
  9. Managed to get time over last few days to get to work detailing my car. Nice weather although a lot of it was unfortunately spent inside the garage !! A few pics of the finished article. I have a more detailed write up on here http://bbs.scoobynet.com/car-care-380/7024...y-detailed.html if you wanted to read more of what it went through.
  10. Agree, they look good on there.
  11. Shame to see you go Cal, for a bit anyways, but I know exactly what you're saying. Considered it myself recently but it was actually the wife that said after the time/money (which is nothing compared to most on here) I'd spent on it to just hanging on to it and we'd look at selling her car after summer, she enjoys driving it luckily. If I have to go back to doing higher miles in the future I'll not have much choice but to sell up though. Looked at that exact same spec Audi myself a while back, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Now those defi's, move the . back a little bit ??? Worth a try !
  12. Sounds good. Any pics to go up ? Or are you waiting till after the "little" changes have been done ?
  13. Coincidentally boy racer is 2nd top of the Type of Driver - I do hope they are not trying to suggest a link between the two......I hate that comparison !!!! Not entirely sure why any of those top five make of cars are seen as the worst drivers, popular sensibly driven vehicles usually, okay though BMW is now a popluar rep mobile but they're not in the top 5 type of driver. Could be worse, could be a BMW driver and old - scared to go out on the roads after that poll !! Oh well, I like my car and that's what counts !
  14. Sounds very nice, no wonder you have a big grin. Similar mods I aspire to have...one day. Bonus with the licence already being there - more to spend elsewhere or something to save (like that's a difficult one to answer!).
  15. At the moment I'm working at home most of the week. Wife sometimes uses it for her work but not so much since the new wheels went on it ! . If I used it every day in to work I don't think I could afford to run it.
  16. Supposedly a couple in Lanarkshire area lately - although think it happens most areas more frequently than anyone would like unfortunately ! I heard one of them was for an RS4 where they threw a kerb stone through the front door window to get access to the house for the car keys at 3 in the morning. Car I think had a tracker and was later found. Stealing the keys is now the way to get the cars, fishing rod through the letter box or get access to the house - basically don't leave the keys lying around where they can be seen !
  17. Yip, Duncan knows his stuff - good choice. If you're waiting for it be prepared for the 10-15mins walk in to centre of Bonnybridge of which I didn't think there was much to do...or take a good mag to read.
  18. Car looks brilliant, I like it.
  19. Can't say I know enough about engines to fully understand what it looks like has been done, although even my novice status can tell there's something just a little better than the "norm" in there .... but can't help but be impressed with those figures. Very nice.
  20. Just a little pleased with it are you...not quite sure that comes across !!! Sounds brilliant. Like reading and seeing the pics of what folk have done with their cars - get the pics up if you can park it up long enough to take some !!!
  21. Nice wee write up. Like quite a few people likely I considered an Evo when deciding on my new car but for much same reasons as you've noted just didn't feel or hear about it being an enjoyable every day distance car (at time I was travelling 70 miles a day). Purchase cost also came in to it ! Still think they are nice cars but I am more than happy about choosing my Scoob
  22. Well after numerous weeks of discussions and loaddddds of calls with Subaru and Ian Grieve's have finally managed to get resolution. Get some of the money back and a discounted next service which I'm fine with. There's reasons for this conclusion but I'll not bore you with all the details. Main reason for digging out this old post is : Credit given where credits due to Ian Grieve's for being so decent & helpful and sticking with me on this. Don't get if you don't ask !
  23. Saw the car twice on Sunday, well the top half of it, both times other side of the M8 around city centre area. Certainly can't miss it that's for sure !!! Agree lose shake and bake, for what I have no ideas, do you really need something there ?
  24. 50 hours is just rediculous !!! Interested in the pics when you get the chance. Well done.
  25. Nice looking vehicle.....are you thinking of modding it !!? Oh, and welcome.
