I'm getting my new clutch and flywheel at the end of this week. I have the choice between a 5.75kg billet chromoly flywheel or an API lightened 7kg flywheel. I regulalrly drive across the dreaded Kingston Bridge so it can be pretty stop-start and slow driving. Any advice welcome.

Hi Imy & Squiggle... I was dying to come on the last run, but a slipping clutch and dodgy brakes makes means I am trying not to drive it unless absolutely necessary. A run is a big temptation - twisty open roads! Grant, I've waved at you a few times - but normally it's the wrong van I manage to wave at. You'll have to get a custom paint job!

'mon the classics! Lovely car mate....

Love the car... You gonna wash it every day?

Hi Peter Congrats on your new addition to the family! Also, congrats on an almost 10 second Crail run too! I hear that the car is insanely quick. Well done. What do they say about the most stressful life events, moving house and having a baby within a few months? NEVER again!!! Well not in the same year anyway.

Hiya all. I miss all and the banter as I haven't been able to log on often. It's been a hectic 9 months having a baby and moving house too, lack of sleep and plenty of stress. Apologies for the scarlet pimpernell-ness. I've been nursing my wagon for the last 6 months as I've been too skint to spend money on much needed clutch and brakes. It does stop - but it's starting to get near the limit of unsafe - so it's booked in to get some work done late next week. Just a wee hello. Also a good mate of mine is looking for a well looked after pre 2001 wagon - so if anyone knows the whereabout of one please let me know.

I never can remember - Is it bad to have the clutch biting point nearest the floor or furthest away from the floor? My clutch is biting close to the floor (about an inch off) at the moment and it didn't like doing a quick start off from standstill. It didn't smell too good for about 3 hours! It is a standard clutch.

Hope it wasn't me - I was waving away in my red wagon. 'mon the wagons!

Me too. I'm sure I'll reflect on his life on the way up to Crail, as it's a bit of a journey. Apologies to the big man - but I'm sure he'll understand.

Intercooler Upgraded - Yes I did it again with the fins.

So - What's involved in putting OB and Meths into a car just for a Crail trip? Anything to watch for? My car has been mapped for VPower so I'm not sure whether this is worth it? Does it add a degree or two of safety for the engine? -
A man who has inspired many. I'm sure many will continue to be inspired by him. One of Valentino Rossi's childhood hero's - What more can you say? Thoughts and prayers are with the Mcrae family and for all those other families who are affected by the loss of these young lives.
-
I'm sorry I didn't make it along today. He has influenced and inspired many - including myself. Motorbike legend Valentino Rossi, who dedicated his win in Sunday's Portuguese MotoGP to McRae in his tribute said - "He was one of my idols when I was young. He was the Kevin Schwarz (US Grand Prix rider of 1990s) of motor rallies," said the Italian. My thoughts and prayers are with the McRae family at this time.

Very sad. Sad that Colin is gone and for the two young lives and other person also. Our thoughts are with their relatives and everyone that knew them.

So are you telling me you made those figures on 95ron? I'm even sicker now... Going to sulk...

Haven't you got enough power? lol.

Nice results mate. What specs is your car? I'm definately up for Crail on the 30th.

Do they look the same otherwise? How do I tell the difference other than the weight? -

mrbadger replied to mrbadger's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I think that this is the answer then. In the long run it's probably worth the extra £££ for a FMIC. I'll save my pennies and go for a FMIC. The v5 STI top mount sounds like it could be a bit of hassle on a 97/98 car and if I need to upgrade to a FMIC in the future, the v5 TMIC is probably not a cost and time effective stop-gap. Shame my car is not a 99/00 model as things would have been a little easier for a v5 TMIC drop-in stop-gap. Squirrel says that I have a v4 car, so an alloy STI v4 TMIC should be a straight swap and a bit better than the steel one I have. It'll do for a cheap and easy stop gap - if I can get hold of one. Anyone got one lying in a box or garage somewhere? Thanks for the advice everybody . I'll save my pennies and do a bit of research into which FMIC will suit a 97/98 car, and also work well with a 2.5 lump with a bigger turbo - if I win the lottery (open to recommendations). -

If I go for a cheap second hand TMIC then it'll maybe cost £100. I can live with that at the moment. I cant live with £400 or more. -

I'd like to go for a 400+ at some point, but I think it is a long way down the road. A year or two at least. My wife is still recovering from shock about the last round of mods -
I've use one of those Meercat Sportcats too. I think your figures should speak for themselves. What did AndyF say about it?
-
What's a mod??? 1 - 2 - 3 - Not done any and never will 1 - 2 - 3 - Done a couple but more in the pipeline 1 - IainC 2 -Double Zero 3 -Ac!D 4- MrBadger Going mod crazy at the mo, I can't help myself and the wife is going to kill me 1 - 2 - 3 - I'm nearly finished, only tweaks from this point on 1 - Playsatan2 2 - Frank C 3 - All done, this is just how I want it 1 - 2 - 3 - Got my eye on a bigger intercooler. In fact I got my eye on I don't know how many! I can't decide what I want. Other than that I've run out of money.

If it's a TMIC about 310-320bhp. I know AndyF runs a STI8 TMIC up above 450bhp and the Type25 runs at 410 with the same STI8 topmount. If I get an STIv5 TMIC I know it'll probably limit me to less than 350bhp safely. If it's FMIC about 310-320bhp in the short term, but more room for the future. It's going to take me a long time to save for a 400bhp+ 2.5L engine, bigger turbo and stronger box and injectors. Why do all the Subaru rally cars have FMIC's? I'm really confused as I can see good points in all intercoolers. -

My car is a UK98 and it has the longer front bumper indicators rather than the squidgy fat ones of a 99/00. The coil pack is in the center and not to one side. I guess this means I'm going to have a nightmare! I reallly haven't got a clue - I think I made a decision and then I change it! Top mount, STIv5, STIv8 or FMIC? The turbo I use is a TD04 Hybrid. Where is the Squirrel when you need him!
