You can always hope ...... BBC weather site currently looking not good at all :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/midlands/#no_url Rain should hit just before 10:00 Really bad about 12:00 clears by 14:00 temperature holding at only 13 / 14 quite a big change from what they thought a day or so ago, so just hope there is a bit of a wind shift and it comes right on the day. Cloud may impact on some of the flights too, so hoping the organisers still get a great day and raise loads of dosh.

Abingdon Tesco at OX14 1TU - A34 / A415 junction Airshow details at http://www.abingdonfayre.com show the entrance is only half a mile away to the North West If you have TomTom then download the POI file from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=POIs - go to Recreation then down to Motor Racing Circuit - the airfield entrance is in that collection. If you have a different Sat Nav, the same site has other formats, you just need to select the Other option and get a csv file downloaded instead. Thame is off our route, but could make an Esso at Bicester - OX26 1BT - meet if others will be there just after 8:00? Cheers, David

I'll be there - don't worry about the parade lap, we're only a bunch of show-offs anyway. Who knows, if they need a filler for the event at short notice, we might jump right back in again.

Subaru Dealer Discounts ? + New Refurb Wheel Pics !
HairyDJ replied to chickenstevens's topic in South East England
Nice job done on those wheels Adam. Discounts vary, but most dealers seem to have joined in to give SIDC full members a 10% deal on quite a few parts and services. I have always been very well treated at Cotswold near Witney - Drew can arrange to collect your car and return it, or hire you one of their little Yaris toys for a nominal amount for the day if you need a runaround. They did my cam belt as part of the big service a little while ago and are also quite willing to use your own preference of fluids. I'm pretty sure that if you still wanted to keep your servicing with your mate, then they will be pretty helpful in getting whatever bits and bobs you need to take the work off site. Tell Drew or Fiona that I pointed you to them and it should make life even easier http://www.cotswoldssubaru.co.uk/contact.html 01993 776622 I've also used the Aylesbury dealer, but it's a bit big and clinical compared to the very personal attention that Drew and the team give you. I have no idea what their attitude to selling bits / kits to DIY would be though. Another option, that may also be ideal for your lights, is to talk to Tim at Scoobyparts - fantastic help when Craigy's old wheels needed different fittings to bed in better and has a big collection of bling in his showroom. Just make sure you set your spending limit before you walk in through the door, as there are so many goodies to drool over!!! http://www.scoobyparts.com Tim is a SIDC supporter and gives discount to full members Cheers, David -
Hi Craig, You know what mine looks like - nice wheels eh? - happy to join in and make the parade lap into as big a convoy as we're allowed. I always feel that a huge stand or a never ending convoy of cars is what makes a scooby gathering so unique, so squeeze all the places you can out of the organisers mate. Cheers, David & Chrissy PS How are you getting tickets out to us - do you need us to pm you a postal address, or are we going to need to meet you somewhere on the way in to arrive in convoy?

Always used 215/45/17 or 225/45/17 until recent addition of a set of 18" wheels. Check the effect of changes to width / profile / rim at http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp - also gives you a guide to rim width that is advised for a particular tyre size. Tended to use Potenzas of various types on the previous 51 plate WRX wagon. current one (another WRX wagon - this time 54 plate with PPP) came with Potenza RE050 - good all rounder and lasted over 16k including track training days that gave them hell. second set of wheels came with RE070 - great in summer, but poor in winter (awful on snow!) - lasted almost 16k with a bit of track day wear. Wouldn't have them again due to winter problems and also found that they were much worse at tramlining than the RE050 moved on to Michelin Pilot Sport - pretty average, never loved or hated them really - lasted less than 13k added a set of winter tyres for the last 2 seasons - Toyo Snow Prox S952 - fantastic in the cold and very trustworthy in snow. Had 2 seasons so far out of these and almost 15k so far - loads of tread left (over 4mm) so they should do me one more winter and then get shredded on a track day Wouldn't want to keep for more than 3 years to avoid the material getting a bit old and possibly "going off". Pretty good grip even on the odd warmer day in the winter too. Still using Michelin Pilot Sport 2 - 5k so far and already down to 6mm or less. A bit different to the previous Sport, but will not go back to Michelin again, even if Costco do have another very cheap deal. Currently running second hand set of Falken FK-452 on 18" wheels - a bit of tramlining, but not as bad as the RE070. These are a bumpier ride and I plan to move up from 215/35 to 225/40 to get less jarring and also to coax the speedo back closer to spot on. When the next set get replaced, I'm currently tempted by the newish Toyo Proxes 4 - hear good things about the T1-S & T1-R, but tread patterns look too similar to the ones above that gave me tramlining. http://www.toyo.co.uk/productdetail.php?id...p;product_id=62 Cheers, David

Would Anyone Like To Lend Me A Set Of Wheels ?
HairyDJ replied to chickenstevens's topic in South East England
Hi Adam, If you don't get an offer closer to home, I can probably help. Choice of 215/45/17 on 7.5 rims with Toyo Snow Prox, or much wiser to go with the 225/45/17 on 8" rims with some Michelin Sport rubber on. Both sets are grubby so only use them at night Both fit on my 54 reg wagon and used to fit on my previous 51 edition. also Craigy's old wheels are currently fitted, so hopefully all should be ok to swap out without bumping on any bits? Drop me a PM if you want to go for it and we can sort out a time and date - should be easy, us old pensioners can fit around you workers Cheers, David -
You seen the price of V-power diesel??

stock of these is getting worse in most places - well into my 3rd set so far & almost another set-worth of receipts stacked up - last time i was told that they can't give several out at once, so ended up calling in every time I was passing. Not sure it's a great marketing idea anyway - I'm going to end up with a couple of dozen toy cars that remind me just how many times I've spent over 30 quid in the last few weeks. Am collecting them out of principle, but after four sets for all my sisters' kids I'll bring spares along to any meet

Not even a school run week is it? http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news/def...amp;artid=14443 Speeding drivers get educated – Steventon A roadside speed check in Steventon this morning (9/3) saw nearly 50 drivers stopped for traffic offences in just two hours. Officers from the Roads Policing Department, alongside Road Safety Constables and Road Safety Officers (RSOs) from Oxfordshire County Council, were on the High Street in the village between 8am and 10am. The check took place as part of Operation Pride after local residents expressed their concerns about speeding in the village. 37 drivers were stopped and issued Fixed Penalty Notices for exceeding the 30mph speed limit. 27 of these drivers opted to receive roadside education from the council RSOs and their tickets were cancelled. The other ten were outside the threshold and will have to pay their £60 fine and receive three penalty points on their licence. Six people were fined £30 for not wearing their seatbelt and four drivers were fined £60 with three penalty points for using their mobile phones. One driver also had their car seized for driving without insurance. PC Mark Pilling, Road Safety Constable for Oxfordshire, said: “It is disappointing that nearly 50 drivers were stopped in only two hours for a variety of offences. Some motorists may believe that exceeding the speed limit by a few miles an hour is not a big deal, but speed can kill and hopefully this check will enforce the message to drivers.” Julie Jones, Road Safety Officer, Oxfordshire County Council, said: "Many drivers feel it is acceptable to exceed the speed limit by a little, until we ask them if they'd be happy if someone they loved was killed or injured by a driver found to be travelling at the same speed that police stopped them for.” Ends HQ Press Office 01865 846699

David (not skating) & Chrissy (going for it) I assume that it's this one - http://www.oxford.gov.uk/leisure/oxford-ic.../oxfordicerink/ Web site says "Please be aware that due to the popularity of skating at this time, sessions may become very busy. During certain sessions, particularly Saturday and Sunday 14.00-16.00, entry may be limited." so might be an early pub?

Some good pics Iain - except a couple of them Phenomenal variety in the weather, but made for a more interesting day. Nice bit of showboating by the Belgian in his monster white volvo - bit more of a laugh the the less succesful show-offs at the end, especially the guy that lost it coming down the hill on the final winners parade lap. Great day - back down again for the SEMSEC sprints on Saturday ....

piccies at about 11:30

Should be a cracking day chaps - it was an evil drive down in the snow and far from pleasant standing out there for the first few hours and the bit at the end when the sleet came back. some very spectacular racing at times - most of the action came just past the start line or the corner just after the finish - the mud at Chessons was really deep if they ran wide and more mud was carried onto the tarmac as the day progressed. spectacular ricochet of the finish line tyre wall by young Liam - i doubt if dad was happy with the amount of bodywork that needs replacing! top surprise of the day had to be the new guvnor using his brand new Maserati as a course car several times. Saw several scoobs parked up watching or nearer the paddock, including one all stickered up advertising the bhp show later in the year.
