  1. Have a really great day Yogi - stay indoors and keep warm at your age ... Cheers, David & Chrissy
  2. Hi folks, One to be aware of? I hadn't realised that they can revoke your reg after repeat offences - bit of a sod if you've paid a few grand for a special one, do they get to sell it all over again! Cheers, David http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambrid...ire/7152255.stm Drivers face number plate purge Police insist that number plates keep to legal standards Motorists in Cambs who use illegal number plates are being targeted by police as part of a crack down. During December, police will be conducting checks on the county's roads issuing £30 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) and other penalties. Last month 78 motorists were issued FPNs for illegal number plates. Sgt Simon Goldsmith said: "Over the next few weeks we will continue to conduct regular road checks to target vehicles with illegal number plates." 'Changing font' He added: "Not only is it an offence to display these plates but it also creates problems with vehicle identification." The most common offences in relation to number plates are changing the font and spacing of the registration, said Cambridgeshire Police. Anyone caught displaying an illegal number plate more then twice could have the number revoked by the DVLA. Sgt Goldsmith, of Cambridgeshire Police, added: "Motorists may think that their illegal number plate looks good but the fact is they are breaking the law. "I would urge anyone who is currently driving around with an illegal number plate to replace it to avoid a fine."
  3. Been using the silicone for the last year or so on my 3 year old wagon. size 12 & size 6 for the front - size 4 were the right length for the rear, but couldn't get an adapter to make them fit, so still running on normal Subaru blades at the rear. May go for the option of the aero spoiler for extra downforce when i buy this time. I'm needing to replace the front blades soon, but like them enough to stay with PIAA. There are times that they seem to be worse - usually when a bit of bird muck or similar lands & seems to get smeared in a lot worse than traditional blades did. I've never been too sure what effect a strong solution of screen wash does to the coating / blades either - there were times that they seemed happier to get clean water instead. The blurb does make quite a point of keeping your windscreen very clean ... Cheers, David
  4. didn't realise they'd be paying special attention to wheels as well hopefully, they'll catch a few scumbags and all the SIDC folk will get a cheery wave for being model citizens
  5. Hi folks, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7147610.stm Maybe not the right week for any impromptu tunnel runs Cheers, David Drivers under the influence of drink or drugs are among those being targeted in a five-day crackdown on law-breaking motorists crossing the River Thames. Kent and Essex police and officers from government agencies will be at the Dartford Crossing from Monday. Drivers using hand-held mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts or in uninsured and untaxed vehicles, or cars in poor condition are also being targeted. Automatic number plate recognition will be in use during Operation Utah. Inquiries will then be carried out on vehicles which arouse suspicion. Ch Insp Adrian Moody, from Kent Police, said it would provide a visible deterrent and an opportunity to stop and prosecute offenders. "By removing law-breakers we can make the roads safer," he said. "Also, with winter and the difficult weather conditions, we want to make sure that vehicles are in a roadworthy condition."
  6. Maybe page 7 is more interesting?
  7. Hiya! Getting a bit manic at this time of the year for Chrissy - great for me though, because I took early retirement after 36+ years :icon_rendeer: so I'm a 53 year old pensioner!! hopefully we'll meet up with the Kent mob again soon, as we should be marshalling at Lydden & possibly Brands quite a bit during 2008 - if i get the right ticks in the box I'll get to marshall at the 2009 Silverstone Grand Prix Still think back to that fantastic round trip for a curry - great night out. Be good Cheers, David & Chrissy
  8. must try that one .....
  9. I got 2 - one for each mis-spelling of my name It's not bad for a freebie with a pretty obvious sales / promotion style. 10/10 for getting a full page tribute to Colin, plus a full page photo. Shame the article about the Wales rally came after the actual event though. Best keep the invitation to join their test drive panel a secret though Cheers, David

  15. postcode ( OX4 2JZ ) and map links along with some reviews on these pages :- http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/13/...Longwall/Oxford http://www.pub-explorer.com/oxon/pub/longwalloxford.htm note that Sunday opening is not until 12 noon. Should be pretty reliable - Beefeater on a Premier Inn site. Cheers, David
  16. I bought Toyo Snow Prox last year from Blackcircles and was very happy with them - probably going to change them back on next week - I have a second set of wheels to make life easy & keep the tyre fitting costs down. They don't come cheap from anywhere - expect £100 plus per corner and try to avoid getting dumped with last year's stock as you will get several years out of a set & don't want the rubber older than it has to be. Take a look at http://www.blackcircles.com and choose your tyre size etc - the online choice will suggest fitting depots near your postcode - they deliver tyres to the depot & you just turn up to have them fitted as part of the price. Give them a call and ask if they give SIDC discount - I managed to get 5% by asking - if not then drop me a PM for a code that will also get you 5% If you're near a Costco place, then they do the Michelin winter tyres - worth the joining fee to get the discount on my summer tyres from them. If you don't mind finding your own fitter 7 lugging 4 tyres along on your back seat - plus the part used ones coming home all dirty, then might be worth a look at http://www.camskill.co.uk - ring them to see if there's a discount or deal for SIDC? Good luck, you won't regret making the switch! Cheers, David
  17. Good to hear it's sorted! Interesting bunch of folk on that web site - just earned themselves a place in my bookmarks Now I'm just out of warranty, bound to need some useful folk like this.
  18. Very good offer - fascinating bit of kit compared to a more normal RR Got a date in mind? Watch the dyno live via http://www.tdi-plc.com/catalog/content/tdi_webcam.html
  19. Tried it a couple of times and wouldn't advise anyone else to blow their furtune on it. No point putting it in a tank that's still full of a lower grade, so I ran until almost dry with a 10 litre can of 102 in the boot. It didn't cause any problems, but I honestly couldn't notice anything spectacular in the way of improvement. Last used it before the Bucks rolling road day and it came in under the expected value for a WRX with PPP so won't be bothering again. Do the maths - an extra 70-80 quid every tank filling would soon add up to way more than the cost of a pretty serious engine upgrade that would bring an obvious improvement?
  20. It's great to see some positive comments and consensus coming through before the Sunday meet - the "divide" had seemed to be growing, so now that the direction has changed - keep it moving closer please folk! We've tended to only make it to a few events - RBMR was fantastic & the curry night at Detling well worth the round trip that night. There are plenty of names that we still don't know, but there have been enough friendly welcomes that I would hope to be seeing you folk at SIDC gatherings and other Kent events throughout 2008. Maybe we're easier to spot than some newbies, but plenty of you have always been friendly enough to keep us coming along whenever we are passing nearby. As occasional visitors, I suspect that we have tended to home in on the folk that we remember from last time - maybe we should bowl up to the "strangers" next time, or maybe the regulars need to push us across with a quick intro? There's always a risk that the newbies will end up meeting & greeting each other as they're the ones standing around on their own! I hope that there will be some good, positive progress come out of Sunday's meeting - a small step in the right direction is better than a leap in the wrong one, so keep it calm and avoid giving or taking offence as much as you can please? One final point to help me with - if Kent Scoobies does run it's own web site - kill off some of the confusion over different domain names please!! The .com seems to be pending; the .co.uk seems to have just expired and been bought up by someone; the .net points back to SIDC for now - agree which one to use and if the other owners are part of "us" then maybe they will be generous enough to point their visitors to the agreed KS site and to SIDC with just a few words of welcome and an explanation of where newbies will find what they need to join the crowd. Good luck with the meet - waiting for the update on here tomorrow Cheers, David & Chrissy
  21. Yup - Ben ran the sessions for us at Ford / Arundel, it's only the recent Trackmasters insurance conditions that Mark has had this imposed by - stand by for an explanation of the problems from Stormy!
  22. We've done Arundel twice and North Weald once - always able to get something out of these sessions to improve your handling and confidence. You also get to blast around a bit and hopefully have a good social day with like minded folk. Sadly, the insurance (public liability) that Stormy & co now have insists on helmets for all students and no passengers apart from instructors. If you're thinking about it ....... you'll end up doing it eventually! Cheers, David & Chrissy
  23. There are 2 huge gatherings on this Sunday - AM at the Scoobyball near Oxford for the "morning after" photocall, plus the massed ranks at Lanark in the afternoon to remember Colin. Both are huge examples of when the club forgets it's little squabbles and pulls together as a real community - you won't find a better gathering than these to demonstrate the UK scooby scene? Although neither occasion would be appropriate to add banners etc for this magazine to promote themselves, I am trying to show that whatever get together transpires, it won't really show us doing what we can at our best. For top quality pictures, the photographer will want really good daylight, so tagging onto an evening meet might not be the best idea? If the idea is also to show SIDC as the UK face of scoobies, then using a non-SIDC event at MK seems a bit illogical? A crawl over the SIDC calendar page shows October to be a bit quiet - aprt from 7th, but I know there are other meets such as Dunstable on 6th Not trying to knock a good idea, just trying to cover off a few practicalities. One last thought - Essex tunnel run on 27th!!
  24. I tend to find the M25 is a pretty popular car park, with a lot of grassy area to play in! Seriously, are you hoping to get a single location to call "home", or a few to move around, so that you get some visitors from nearby - Kent / Essex / Surrey /. Herts etc? Good luck
  25. Apart from the chap in 13th place? I think you're just trying to make it to the magic 8,000 before bed time
