  1. I've marshalled a few meetings with electric bikes running amongst "real" ones. They have phenomenal torque out of the corners and get away from the normal bikes, but then seemed to be lower on top speed. If you want scary, then just be dealing with something on track (or close to) when an electric blasts past with utterly no noise to warn you of it's approach! If you watch motorsport for the bad bits, then dig out some piccies from 18 months ago when a battery fault sent £250k of bike up in smoke - lithium battery fires don't co-operate ...... Take a look for Greenpower events in 2013 - a schools / uni competition for small cars - last year's winner used SMS to provide telemetry and control comms.
  2. had my 54 plate (Oct 2004) with PPP from new and just passed 124k - guzzles a bit of oil nowadays but serviced throughout by Cotswold.
  3. good to see you old timers are still managing to draw breath miss getting along to the old meets - so many "originals" have moved on .....
  4. always good to know - I've relied on these folk for years http://www.pocketgpsworld.com got me free life membership by being the first to submit a new camera site a few years ago. I use it on tomtom, but the new app seems really popular. Also got free satnav POI data (including shell fuel and race circuits of course!)
  5. IAM = old fogies (like me!) flat cap driving club, aka Institute of Advanced Motorists. Insurance is cheaper on the basis that members have a better accident record, policies issued via adelaide insurance in Belfast
  6. stayed with Gary for yet another year, despite IAM being cheaper - the idiots would accept that i have several sets of wheels / tyres (summer / winter / 17 & 18) but wanted me to notify them every time these were swapped out. I also hated the way they they always want to undercut the opposition but are tough to pin down to a quote of their own.
  7. Any of you get there early enough to see Wimpy on the 10:00 slot? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-16124944
  8. How do, you old git xx So how long before you get it all vinyl-ed up like the old beastie then? Hope the old one went to a good home - rather than fell off a rally stage or got nicked by Gabriel .... Cheers, David
  9. Oi stranger! Hope all's going well with you & yours, still co-piloting for rallies?
  10. linked to alarm / immobiliser - drop a post in the sigma sam thread for the alarm god to assist, he was brilliant with my problems
  11. check your handbook for info on getting the "new" key recognised by the system - otherwise might be dealer visit to get it configured in?
  12. wagons are good - had my 54 plate from new and now over 118k. previous did 65k before getting written off. the car is cheap, but insurance, tyres, fuel etc can add up to an awful lot. I get 20-25mpg; front pads last 15-20k with new discs needed every other pad change; tyres vary from 12-18k per set (but my second set of wheels with winter rubber do double that). watch out for rear shocks - mine go every 30-35k and that's expensive - see other threads for info on this problem. but ...... wouldn't ever want to part with the old beastie! you're thinking about it, so it's too late to back out - you're already hooked
  13. another vote for cotswold - join SIDC and you'll get 5% discount - check I've got that correct by giving them a call mine's been going there since new and due back in a month or two for the 120k service ......
  14. 2539 days - almost 7 years in sensible numbers from new and 117k so far hopefully will get double that yet - if Cotswold Mark keeps working his magic . . . . previous only made just over 3 years as it was allergic to being t-boned by a golf
  15. welcome Chris, Can't help with the techie stuff, but if you say what part of the country you live in, then you may find somebody not too far away who will be happy to take a look / listen and give you some thoughts? Or, look out for a meet & bring the new toy along to get everybody arguing
  16. Local fora have certainly grown, and with folk travelling much less to events there must be a lot less "going ons" to be advertised, discussed & then moaned about. Some of the busier posters have moved on from subarus, not just SIDC. There are only a few of the many friends we made early on left in scoobs, but then I've had mine for a decade now and life will keep moving on . . . . Perhaps whilst the volume is down, the quality is up? Perhaps we have a more intelligent bunch of members nowadays who search / read through old threads to find answers rather than bound into the forum and ask a question that has been asked so many times before. I tend to visit several times each week and use the button marked "View New Content" to catch up on stuff. I'll happily nose into any interesting looking thread wherever it is in the forum or the country. The ones I skip are those with lazy titles - "want help" as a subject will get ignored by me - if you really want some help, then take a moment to say why / what on the subject line, it's not too difficult! I think that since the forum restructuring, we're getting less multiple posts in different sections - not sure if that's down to members being sensible, or mods hacking back the garbage for us? Some of our heavy posting traffic revolved around special events like Richard Burns / Colin McRae - lets hope there isn't a need for any more of those for a very long time. My gut feel is also that we have less non-members on the forum - hopefully because folk using the forum join up!
  17. Good to see my local Cotswold Subaru guys are on the dealer list - might be a test of my willpower on the next visit if there's stuff on display
  18. worth searching for posts from oilman - been covered many times & he's the daddy
  19. keep 'em coming - reminds me of 5 years ago on here where we had a fair few folk chipping in with some great stuff
  20. Yup, left LV= after a lifetime with them, now with Moley for my second year. I tried a quote with Adelaide through IAM, but for several years they wouldn't touch any car whatsoever that had any kind of mod - really stupid as although I paid for my PPP as an upgrade, shortly afterwards Subaru UK were offering the WRX with PPP as a forecourt option. I can say that LV= were excellent when I needed to claim for my previous WRX when written off by a #@#@ golfie years ago, but for what I was paying I should hope so too . . . Have you tried Subaru UK's own insurance scheme?
  21. talk to your local old bill, trading standards & paypal fraud teams - all / any intel on these scammers fed into the system helps to build a pattern and block / catch them
  22. Welcome Craig - I've been known to slip across the border, waves will be from a 54 plate blue wagon
  23. Just noticed this story - presumably somebody's pride and joy got nicked to do the robbery which then turned into a fatal on some poor innocent. Just hope the usual anti fast car brigade understand it was nicked . . . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-13749705 Oldbury death crash: Two boys arrestedTwo boys have been arrested over a crash in the West Midlands which left one man dead and injured two others. The boys, aged 16 and 17, were held on suspicion of burglary after the crash in Churchbridge, Oldbury, believed to be linked to a reported break-in at a Co-op store on Tame Road. The 24-year-old driver of a Fiat Qubo died when his car was in a collision with a Subaru Impreza at 0100 BST. A man, aged 44, was taken to hospital while another man had minor injuries. Fled crash scene Officers had been called to the Co-op at 0055 BST after a member of the public reported seeing people trying to break into the shop. People had entered the premises but nothing was taken, police said, and a car was seen leaving the area. The crash was reported five minutes later. The occupants of the Impreza fled the scene. The Fiat driver died in hospital following the crash, and both the injured men were passengers in the Fiat. Meanwhile, the arrested 16-year-old received hospital treatment for arm and facial injuries on Monday morning.
  24. really daft - I left LV= after almost 40 years of cover when they took me over a grand (55yo & g'teed NCB with them) - jumped to Gary last year and still under £600 this Feb renewal
  25. I travel from MK across to Cotswold Subaru @ Witney - have a chat with them about courtesy car / collection options.
