  1. For a moment, I thought you'd put out a contract on me
  2. check your piccies of the day folks and post up the reg if you find it - name and shame
  3. might be worth trying to find some older bike club websites / magazines, as something that age still running may well be known at shows - either as a display or just an enthusiast attending? I suppose it would give away the surprise if you tried to get local media involved in the hunt? Nice idea, hope it comes good for you
  4. overpaid banger racing Some good stuff in the support races though, so enjoy yourselves in the baking sunshine. I'm doing the oldies at silverstone - including this 25 litre V8 monster, which is road legal with an MOT under science museum exemption which allows it to run with original spec exhausts without emissions / noise constraints
  5. got this awful image in my head of you burning rubber whilst he hangs onto the bonnet trying to listen where in the wheel arches it's coming from
  6. BBC1 earlier this evening, or grab it via here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006zygp
  7. free puddings again http://www.harvester.co.uk/site-media/down...est-voucher.pdf good to end of May so could be used next month too ........
  8. Wave to the dirty blue wagon with stickers on - I'll look out for the shiny beast that you've posted the piccies of, way cleaner thasn mine!! hopefully meet you at one of rach's sessions before too long
  9. depends which bit of Bucks you're hiding in mostly a case of joining Iain & Stu for Oxford meets or look in East Anglian for Rach's next Bedford meet. Most of the SIDC Bucks (Aylesbury) folk moved out a year or so ago & the non-paying SIDC folk around Milton Keynes have their own web site with the Beds & Northants people.
  10. owned it long, or bought it from DVLA just to make big money out of real car owners? hope the mods pull this thread and block this brand new user asap
  11. problem with paying for a place on a public track day is that you have no control over the other folks paying for a day out. You might find a few hardcore track pros, but also some idiot chavs as well. dig through some of the track day threads on here - TrackMasters do a great job and hire the circuit for exclusive use means they can control who shows up and are much less risk to your car. If you don't want to go right into track day, then how about seeing if Mark & Co can sort a track training day somewhere close to Oxon? you'll get the coaching on techniques, but also acres of tarmac to allow you to push beyond the limits without armco to mash up your pride and joy. cost of a track day can come to a lot more than the entry fee - insurance 50-100 with big excesses / severe brake wear (pads & discs) / tyres (or you get spare wheels and keep your oldies for track thrash) / fuel - very thirsty and need to keep the tank high to avoid starvation problems / extra oil change ..... I've always fancied their Goodwood event each autumn - could be an opportunity for combining skid pan and track day punters on the same day together?
  12. Sorry, no show from us again BRSCC meeting at Sillystone (plus Style and Tuning show on the Stowe complex) Cheers, David & Chrissy
  13. Looks like you did a cracking job Rach - make this your last and you'll have a fantastic 100% reputation Shame we couldn't join you - I'd have loved to have seen that monster wagon, can't match "Bill" to a forum name - whose was it? Even better to see that AndyT is still alive and well (and grafting!)
  14. gonna be a bit tricky to use the bonus points voucher for filling up 6x25 litres in March and again for April. BP is 97 & Tesco do 98 - who else does any form of higher octane?
  15. I think the main reasons that makers mark and postcode were mandatory was part of the attempt to avoid cloned plates being knocked up cheapskate. In theory, all plates now need to be made up at licensed sites and need sight of your log book. nice idea, but not really that effective at stopping the serious bad guys? It amazes me that so many cars are still running around on "illegal" fonts / layouts - if the powers that be really don't like them, how tough is it to sort them all out in weeks? I suspect the answer might be that they only care when it comes in handy to hit some targets Like the idea of paying in pennies, but I believe there is some limit on how much coin is adjudged to be legal tender in any transaction. Knowing your luck, they'd take ages counting and recounting to delay you until your parking ticket expired and they could get in a bit of revenge
  16. hows your legs ladies? at least the baking sun wasn't a problem
  17. lovely little faded green Austin A35 for 40 quid - lasted a year, but was running bad at the end, 20 odd mpg on 5 star and 200 odd on oil then A40 for £65 - off to halfords for a can of matt black paint for the bonnet & I thought I was the dogs. Retired that for a brand new vauxhall magnum 1800 on an N plate for a massive £1450. god I'm old .........
  18. amazed that the original owner didn't buy it for £500 off his insurers - he must have known that the wreck / parts could have been sold on to the 22b community! suppose we ought to feel sorry for the guy who lost it - awful to lose any car, but something that special ........
  19. Well worth trying Gary I've been with LV for years but they got higher and higher, although were very good for both no-fault claims in the last decade. I decided to dig around for a few new quotes this year and was quite amazed at the spread. Slight differences in excesses, but all would accept my history of full NCD and no fault claim. Car is a WRX wagon with PPP upgrade. Had from new Oct 2004 and now 97k miles and prob worth less than 7k? LV wanted £1287 SAGA (yeah, the joys of being 55!) £862 Adelaide (IAM member) £962 LV offered to requote me (rather than renew existing) to open up to fresh underwriters - came down to £696 but then added demand for trackers and greater excess. In my naivety, I'd assumed that a renewal was automatically the best they could offer! Went to Gary at Keith Michaels and ended up paying £499 When the IAM chap phoned back he got really grumpy and said that he'd promised to beat any quote - said he would have matched the £499 and didn't like it when I told him that he should have quoted that in the first place PS I think you will need to be a paid up SIDC member to get the best deal through Gary
