Ah-ha.... that'll be why there isnt a great deal of interest in this, thanks for the heads up Imy. Well, I'll probably still fire up to Crail, but hope you guys and gals have a nice time through at Hypertech on Sunday and raise a good amount for Santa Cruise. Cheers, Grant

Haha, I forgot to quote this in my initial reply........... you are right, I couldnt resist the temptation to modify, however I am doing it for the increase in mpg Mr Shandero. I'm just trying to learn to accept the additional bhp, lb/ft, pops, bangs and flames as unavoidable side effects. Cheers, Grant

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you buddy... hope to see you Sunday. Cheers, Grant

Just wondering who's up for a trip to Crail this weekend... I know its reasonably short notice, but I'm heading up with a few friends and all things going well Peter (Fai17) will be there with his mental stock-looking Blobeye STi to set a cheeky PB which will be awesome to see. Its just a normal event, so there is likely to be a lack of chavs and quite a bit of track time too.. which is perfect!! Feel free to stick your name down so that I know who to look out for when I'm up there. 1. RS Grant - Grey Hawkeye, B**GDF 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. etc, etc... Cheers, Grant

Thanks for all the comments... and if you're hanging in the balance about getting your car mapped/the pops and bangs/3" system.......... then I'd say to just go for it!! However, the pops and bangs (& flames) on mine (hardcore setting) are WAY too much for a daily driver but as I only use my car on the occasional weekend, its a brilliant laugh and never fails to put a smile on my face, which is what the car is all about for me. IainC, the exhaust on my car is really quiet at cruising speeds and anything under 50% throttle. One the car is opened up then it will let rip really well, which is exactly the description I gave to Meercat before they started the thing!! Obviously, it all goes a bit crazy with the pops and bangs that Andy turned on, but then thats up to yourself whether you go for them or not. Peter, was brilliant to meet you on my spontaneous arrival to the OSIDC. The wee food parcel was just what I needed, set me right up for the trip home.. thankyou!! The under-bonnet scenery on The Chinese 500+ was awesome, everything looked factory finished... although its a LONG way from where it was when it rolled off the production line!! When the car was getting the exhaust fitted, I had the TMIC off and cleaned it out to get rid of some oil that was inside.. so a catch can is defo going to be the order of the day. Are you going to be taking a trip up to Crail on Sunday mate, its my weekend off, so I'll be heading up with a few people from this way?? Kev, I'm sure it'll still be me thats chasing you if the roads are angus-based!! Cheers, Grant

I got the car down to the guys at Meercat after booking a day to get a full 3" custom exhaust system fitted to my car.. and turned up bright and early after a wee bit of searching to find the place..... unfortunately I was down on my own so had to hang around all day which I apologised for as I probably got in the way a bit!! Haha.. In a way I'm glad I was there though, watching the system being built was great but the downpipe being built from scratch was amazing to see, the attention to detail, quality of materials and welds are brilliant. I would recommend these guys to anyone that is looking for an exhaust and I didnt grudge the 260-270mile round trip that it required for me to take. It looks exactly how I wanted, it sounds exactly how I wanted and it certainly gives the ability to flow as much as Mr F needed it to when I paid a visit to Port Seton The week after getting the exhaust fitted in Ayrshire, I had the car mapped by Andy F and I am absolutely blown away by the way the car drives now and how powerful it is.. plus, as a few of you know, my MPG before was truely shocking....... I'm now getting more MPG than before and as a wee indicator to those who have driven a 2.5 STi, now that its been mapped, 5th gear pulls in the same way that 3rd gear used to pull. I also had the 'pops and bangs' turned on, after Andy had a wee nosey around the ECU he found a way to make the 2.5 sound very similar to the 2.0 cars with the over-run feature enabled.... I must say, its absolutely comical how loud they can be and its sometimes really hard to try and keep the revs under 2500rpm when coming down the gearbox for junctions/roundabouts or pulling away from standstill.. but, until I get an ASBO, they're staying. Haha. My spec & results are: - Green Panel Filter & Dedicated Cold Air Feed (Resonator Removed) - Walboro 255 lp/h Fuel Pump - 3" Meercat Snakehead Downpipe (Wrapped) & Custom Exhaust System with 'Prodrive Style' Tailpipe - Andy Forrest EcuTek Re-map - 355bhp & 389lb/ft I'd just like to say thanks to people that have given advice over the past wee while, Andy for the mapping and having the patience to answer my questions and Meercat for building a masterpiece of an exhaust. I'm a very happy camper at the moment, roll on Crail this weekend. Cheers, Grant

.....as everyone else is sharing, then I'll let you know that the lad in the White 57-Plate V8 engined M3 wasn't a fan when my 'WRX look-a-like' pulled past him. Didn't get a wave back after, but did get a wee smile from his female passenger which was nice. Cheers, Grant
-
Where did you get the part from mate... and how much, if you dont mind me asking. Cheers, Grant
-
.....a Walboro Fuel Pump for my Hawkeye STi? I know this is a really old question, but I'm surfing on my phone and its pretty slow going without searching...am I right thinking that there are places online that'll do the kit for about 70-odd quid?! Cheers, Grant
-
Yeah, from the site it looks great... and the fact its so close is perfect. Just wondered if its as good in real life. I'm getting a turbo back 3" exhaust made up for the car.. after all the praise the guys at Meercat have had on here and making stuff for the late Mr McRae, I'd be crazy to go elsewhere. Cheers, Grant

Its whether or not anyone knows what the Moorpark Hotel in Kilbirnie is like? Just that my car is due at Meercat at 8.30am on Friday and I dont fancy leaving mine at 6am to get there?! Did a bit of surfing the net and saw this place which is a mile away, which means I can roll out of bed just before 8am.... Anyone know if this place is a reasonable enough hotel? Cheers, Grant
-
I think thats a reasonable price.... I'd be over the moon to buy that car for <7000 mate, I'd guess that at a push he'd drop to 6750 which I'd pay for that car. Its well known in the scene and has had the obligatory rebuild done, with uprated parts too. Cheers, Grant
-
Anti-Lag is very trick... will be good to see this going!! [] Didn't realise your car had been rebuilt Peter, what sort of spec have you built it to?? Just that I dont think OEM pistons etc would like >2.0bar of boost!! lol Cheers, Grant
-
Yaaawn... I'd assume there will be a Bugatti Veyron in the Glasgow area somewhere, that's fastest.... Next question?? Cheers, Grant

Does it really matter if its angled or straight on anything below the 400bhp mark?! ...as I've currently got a 2.5" system with an angled backbox but was going to go for a 3" full de-cat with a subtle 3.5" straight exit tailpipe that sounds pretty loud at full chat. Just that I'm a bit bored of the massive rear angled tailpipe look and fancy something that sounds amazing, but looks really subtle and prodrive-ish like the one fitted to a PPP'd car. Cheers, Grant

As far as I know.. the visual differences from the outside are: - Front grill sits flush on the V4 and sits proud of lights on V5 - Front bumper is a twin slat on V4 and single slat on V5, obviously the indicators are totally different - Headlights are same shape but crystal clear rather than 'frosted' appearance - Rear spoiler is 'mid-level' on the V4 but is a 'high level' on the V5... as far as I know, the Wagons have the same Rear Spoilers - Dump Valve bolts straight to intercooler on the V5 and on the V4 comes off a piece of pipe to the right hand side of the intercooler - I'm sure the Turbo's are different.... I *think* that the V4 uses an IHI VF23 and the V5 uses an IHI VF28 (same as a P1) - The ECU in the V4 is un-mappable and requires a full replacement (Apexi Power FC etc) where as in the V5 you can get an EcuTek Map flashed onto it.. same as your old MY99 There are differences on the inside too, like the centre of the Momo Steering Wheel is a shiny plastic MOMO badge in a V5 and an embossed MOMO logo in the standard material on the V4... there are probably other differences, but I'm sure others will be along to point them out soon enough. Cheers, Grant

I was all set for the APS CAI system for my car but after a chat with Mr F about it he recommended staying with the stock airbox, green panel and a dedicated cold air feed rather than the inner-wing kit... something to do with the bend disrupting airflow and confusing the MAF in some cases. I'd rather not take the risk and can live without the noise, so stock airbox for me. This will be a really fast Foz...... be brilliant to see it finished off. Cheers, Grant

Haha, aye it is a bit of an old post... Yea good to chat to you mate, was a bit of a surprise for another SIDC member to pick up the phone when making a random phonecall. I'll try giving him a buzz tomorrow as well, cause think I might have missed his return call today. Cheers, Grant

Whats up with your current car mate?? I also thought that things were all good after your visit to Port Seton recently.... have I missed something?! A GB270 is a nice car (we've got one sitting in the showroom at work) with a lot of nice bits on it (Sat Nav, Interior etc) and with the PPP the WRX is actually quicker than a standard STi... however, I think you'd be a bit disappointed with the overall performance after driving your current car........ is it not around 380bhp and 390lb/ft?? If you dont have problems with Warranty work on your car even with all the power/handling mods you've done then I dont really see the benefit of going to a new Hawkeye?! You can get a full re-trim for 1500quid and a decent Sat-Nav system for about 800quid......... which is way less than taking the hit on depreciation on your own car. If you've reached the end of the line with your current car then fair enough, gotta call it a day at some point.. in which case, the GB270 is a decent option if you're going for a more sensible and all-round package, but I'd also consider a pre-owned Hawkeye STi which comes with uprated parts, dccd, suede interior etc all as standard. Cheers, Grant

I think that rebuild STi 5 sounds like great value for money... a rebuild like that wouldnt have been cheap, even if he did it himself rather than using a specialist. Personally, I'd never feel right driving a car that was a CAT C write off.. and I'd probably never drive a CAT D car either, even though it really could have been minor damage being a CAT D. Cheers, Grant

Haha... I'll quote you Squiggle, "even sh@t garages/importers can sell the occasional one that wont blow up" with regards to the Keighley Trade Centre. Cheers, Grant
-
Mackay Trading are known to be a bit pricey, but a couple of friends have bought their cars and have never had any problems with them.. I cant say the same for Calder. Newera Imports in England are very highly regarded, you DO pay for that, but if you're willing to pay the extra money then you'll buy a very clean and reliable car.. Going on past experiences with Honda, Toyota and Nissan cars that friends have bought over the years. Vine Place is another import company, based around York, that a friend bought a performance jap car from and had absolutely no problems with it.. extremely solid car and brilliant service. Steer WELL clear of any garage in Keighley advertising Jap Performance stuff for what appears to be very competitive prices........ Cheers, Grant

Wiy? Blue New Age Aberdeen, Green Classic Monikie...
RS Grant replied to nippysweeties's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Green Classic is likely JC Scoob's old car.. now owned by a guy called Jason. It ran an 11second 1/4 mile back in the day, its rather lively when it hits boost. Cheers, Grant -
Hope that helps.... Cheers, Grant
