I haven't actually clicked that link, but in the program there was an exterior shot that showed the Impreza slide right past the front of the Evo... I know that it would have been a montage of all the best shots taken from a day at the track with the two cars, but I think that was genuinely real, going by the shot outside and the faces of the drivers. They maybe did mean to do the last corner move, but I defo dont think they meant to get quite so close. Cheers, Grant

Normally would prefer to paint a wall and watch it dry than watch 5th Gear..... however, that was a ballsy move by Jason Potato that made for great telly. Cheers, Grant

Pretty sure that Andy said the 'pops and bangs' were a result of opening up the ecu so that it doesnt go into closed loop on the over-run between a set area... and its not higher up the revs, only happens when the throttle has been completely lifted between 4500rpm and 2500rpm, I occasionally get a wee flame when changing gear at the top of the revs, but thats only when the car is out on a prelonged spirited run. If you accelerate hard using 100% WOT into 'the zone' then it may/may not produce the effect depending on how quickly you snap the throttle closed, however, part throttle into 'the zone' and you'll get the desired effect. If I go up to over 4500rpm and let it drop through 'the zone' using engine braking, then it will also not produce the pops and bangs either, unless I touch the throttle myself to provoke it. I would agree that this increases EGT's though, I dont have a gauge to monitor them, but for the reasons you've mentioned... I cant see how it wont raise them as a result. The power thing is a bit of a mystery though, mainly because other cars with pretty much identical spec & mods, that dont have the 'pops and bangs' make near on the same figures as my car did on Andys DeltaDash when I was having it mapped. Cheers, Grant

If its green, then I think thats already been changed... IIRC the standard one that came out my STi was a normal white paper filter with an orange border and I assume that they'll use the same filter between WRX/STi models. You dont NEED a replacement filter for a re-map, however, every little bit helps and for 35quid, I decided it was better to throw one in than not. I replaced mine with a Green Filter from AWD, think it was about 30-35quid and about 2 mins to fit. Cheers, Grant

I dont know if you covered it JW, but is it worth mentioning that its illegal to run a full de-cat on the road?? Cheers, Grant

How Much Would You Pay For A Standard Classic?
RS Grant replied to colin_ross's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hahaha, thats GOT to be a mis-print... I know they are extremely rare, but they are also extremely ugly and for an extra few grand you could be into a 22B. Cheers, Grant -
We Don't Need No Steeenking Front Mounts
RS Grant replied to colin_ross's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Miles better IMO. Cheers, Grant -
I'm a bit biased, but as long as you use your car as more of a toy rather than daily.. then I think that pops and bangs are a bit of a giggle that adds to the fun of driving the car. Haven't really met anyone that isn't a fan of them yet. Oh, dont listen to JW of the Sports CAT Appreciation Society....... Full de-cat all the way, it'll sound mega with the Firestorm. Cheers, Grant

Potential Subaru Owner Looking For Some Information.

Potential Subaru Owner Looking For Some Information.
RS Grant replied to ross78's topic in Scottish Scoobies
- V-Power or Super Unleaded - £440ish for anything registered after March 2001 I think, thats for WRX or STi. - Depends on which Impreza you're looking at, a standard WRX isn't likely to blow your knickers off in a straight line and would struggle to get away from your CTR, however it will be better than most things around the twisties and the all-weather ability is a big plus.. with a couple of mods you'll be very impressed at the grip levels IMO. If you are planning to fit modifications to the car, then you should really go for a Newage STi, these cars come with a much stronger bottom end and also have the 6-speed gearbox fitted as standard too, which removes most of the mechanical worries that WRX owners have to face when they throw a few mods and a remap at their car. However, the STi has a pretty solid ride compared to the WRX and might not be suitable if you're planning to do serious mileage on our cr@p roads. - If you want to buy a car, not modify the car regarding the BHP (which we all say to start with, but few manage) then I would probably say that the best car you could buy would be a 2006-2007 WRX with the Prodrive Performance Package fitted to it. Its got the performance of an STi, lovely torquey 2.5 engine, probably slightly cheaper to insure, can pick them up for VERY cheap money and will just require some handling/visual/braking mods to finish off....... but if you think there is an outside chance that you would go for more power, then you're better going for a 2003-2005 STi because they come with a degree of mechanical over-engineering as standard. Cheers, Grant -
Thats a nice looking STi you've bought, welcome to the club. Cheers, Grant

Huge Amount Of Oil Use Issue - Getting Worried!
RS Grant replied to ScottyRB320's topic in Scottish Scoobies
The 2.5 STi engines seem to use a wee bit of oil, mine requires a very small top up every thousand miles or so... certainly not the amount you seem to be going through. That is NOT normal and would point towards a fault of some kind, with the car having been rebuilt recently, I would start there as a possible cause. If your car is blowing through that amount of oil, then I would expect your CAT to have suffered badly and be pretty coke'd up which would give the increased exhaust gas temps that you can hear by the 'tinking' sound...... the increased temps could also have caused the lambda sensor to get damaged which is why it isn't reading correctly. Cheers, Grant -
That IS good... gonna go check out how much they are for 18s. Cheers, Grant

I arranged the Group Buy last year.. and IIRC, Andy is pretty flexible with dates as long as people arent going to be taking the p!$$ with it. I think we had people spread over 3 months or so with the last one, so dont be shy folks, stick your name down here........... you DEFO wont regret it. :rotfl: Cheers, Grant

Never realised that the Hawkeye WRXs had AVCS, thought that was an STi-only thing. Learn something new everyday. Cheers, Grant

Thankyou for posting that. Cheers, Grant -
In the first link, it says "....the parts you need to convert a 5 speed to a 6 speed are available but not included in the sale..." Hmmmm, might be worth asking the guy what he'd sell the complete conversion for. Cheers, Grant

Glad you had as good an experience as I did mate. Cheers, Grant

Welcome mate, good progression on the wagon.. shame it got nicked. The Type-R looks really nice. I'd just be getting those wheels re-finished in the colour of your choice mate... they are rare, light, strong and very desireable items if they're the genuine Volk Racing (RAYS) TE37. Cheers, Grant

Fast And Modified Show On Sunday 20th July 08
RS Grant replied to oxbig1's topic in Scottish Scoobies
No, I was talking about the Gold Digger dashboard mate.... I really liked the interior of that Impreza and the amount of money that had been thrown at it (including a reasonable stereo system ) and if I had the patience, knowledge and spare cash then I'd also have a flocked dash because I think they look brilliant. Cheers, Grant -
Showroom tax..... that is disgusting. The UK has gone to the dogs IMO, makes me really angry thinking about the state we're in and the fact that our tiny country is made to pay for pollution created by other countries in the world and we dont have the bollox to stand up and say enough is enough. I've not been around long, just 25 years, but in the past 6-7 years things have just started to get further and further out of control with no sign of stopping. Sorry for the rant, but the showroom tax thing triggered it off there... Cal, the new car looks nice. Sure it'll go pretty well as standard but should be really brisk through the gears once you treat it to some Revo/Jabba/AmD love too. Cheers, Grant

The dashboard hadn't escaped either... think it was completely re-done and although I never had a close look at it, I'm sure it was pretty 'unique' too. Cheers, Grant -

You'd be better throwing a post up on Scoobynet in Other Marques to be honest, a lot of experience and knowledge over there mate. I'm pretty sure the only 4x4 you get are Carrera 4, Carrera 4S and Turbo models.. and obviously the Cayenne SUV. With that sort of budget, I'd be going for something like this or possibly a low mileage 996 Turbo. However, thats just personal preference and due to being a more 911 sized person, as was mentioned above the Cayman/Boxster might be a bit more suited to a female?? Cheers, Grant
