Automotive Dillema >> The Dark-side......
RS Grant replied to ~ ~ Cal ~~'s topic in Scottish Scoobies
I have to say, when I had my sisters car for the day... I came across a reasonably standard Green UK Scoob and it was almost even, with the Civic just pulling away slightly at the top end in 6th, at high speed. That was two up and a car FULL of tennis-related equipment, weight really makes a difference in Hondas as the lack of torque does struggle to pull the extra around. Against a Classic STi or clean WRX then I'm sure that it would have been beaten.. but the guy in the Scoob was impressed enough to give me a flash of the lights and a wave when I turned off. The trump card of the Type-R is the handling, I wouldnt be too far behind my Impreza with an extra 150bhp and 250lb/ft and 4wd on a twisty backroad that I know well in the Civic. Imprezas aren't as untouchable as people make out. Cheers, Grant -
Think thats what you gotta weigh up mate, if you remove the rubber lip protector then you are open to stone chipping. If you keep it, then once it starts to get old then it'll let water in and start to attack the metal underneath. Car looks good though, big difference with the facelift bumper and a couple of small mods. Cheers, Grant

Bad news mate.. Im sure that Hypertech will do a good job putting it back together though. Cheers, Grant

I appreciate the post.. and all credit for eventually coming on to post a response even after what has been said Haz. However, got to clear a couple of things up. Firstly, when I lent the wheels out.. I was told that it was for your car while yours were going to get re-done from Gold to White, as it'd have gone a wee bit better with the Cusco Graphics. Makes no odds whos car they were for really as I'd have lent them out for either the Green Scoob or your Scoob at the time, just remember the conversation and thinking that white would look much better than the gold, thats all. Secondly, the thought of vandalism never crossed my mind when I saw you both in your WRX at Crail. I cannot stand people that take their anger out on other peoples property in an attempt to get back at them, absolutely no need for that at all... what I did feel at Crail was extreme anger at you both personally, which is why I couldnt even come over. All that would have happened would have been a load of abuse flung back and forward, and in my experience, the potential for things to escalate is very high in those type of situations. So, thats why I just walked away and allowed myself to calm down. Anyway, like I said, all credit for coming on to put your point across and I'll see you at the end of the month to get the £125 and put this thing to bed, for good. Cheers, Grant

Spec-G started as an STi Spec-D, with a few mods that I spec'd myself, so its now a Spec-G(rant). Cheers, Grant

Hayward & Scott are always a good bet for 'off-the-shelf' stuff.. depending where you are, you might be better getting one made for your car?? That way you can have it looking and sounding exactly how you want. I went from Dundee to Meercat in Ayrshire for mine and cant recommend them enough. Cheers, Grant

Callum @ Checkpoint runs a Cayenne Turbo and he knocked in a 12-second 1/4 mile at Crail in it. Alright, around the bends its not going to be the best, but in a straight line they are really impressive. Cheers, Grant

I really like the new Legacy, think it looks like a lovely car... that one has the braking and suspension sorted, just needs a trip to Port Seton for a cheeky re-map. Maybe even some very subtle pops and bangs too. Cheers, Grant

Had my sisters EP3 Premier all of yesterday.... sunny, dry and an absolutely awesome wee car, round the B-roads its wicked fun. I've been considering a change into a late EP3 and slapping an LSD in it or a Facelift DC5 but to be honest for the couple of months worth of proper, good, dry weather we get a year, its not worth changing. I would miss the burble, miss the ability to spot a gap and spool past 2 or 3 cars without even thinking about it or dropping half way down the gearbox and miss the all-weather ability too.. they are the reasons which made me decide to keep the Scoob. I have never been a fan of the seat design or the height that you sit at in my Hawkeye, but after lengthly research and intense questioning to a few people/suppliers, I've decided that a pair of new seats & rails are needed to solve the problem. Which isn't going to be cheap, but if it solves the only thing that I dislike about the car, its definitely worth it. Cheers, Grant -
Going to the dark side and getting an EVO?? Cheers, Grant

Looks very very clean mate... Cheers, Grant

I think it will just just un-screw.. so you wont have to pull your knob off mate. Cheers, Grant

Oh right, I was expecting the 08 STi to tool around in while they worked on the car...... Good news, will decide if its just a service that I want and get it booked in sometime soon. Have talked to Dunc on the phone and he spent a bit of time explaining his recommendations and what he thought would be a good move so looking forward to the trip. Cheers, Grant

Typically, how far in advance are they booking?? I've got my confirmation letter from Subaru UK saying that my Warranty will still be intact without a FSSH, so its goodbye to the Dealer Network, and hello to a proper specialist that can look after my car for me. Cheers, Grant

You'll enjoy the roads up that way... one of my most memorable drives ever was when I enjoyed myself on those empty twisties when I peeled off the boring as hell A9 and attacked them in a 1.6 Focus hirecar on my way up to Brora (sp?). Seriously, I was amazed by the views along the way, but the roads were just perfect IMO. Cheers, Grant -

I would think that any decent decal/sign place would be able to replicate them... would be able to customise them to your own taste too I'd have thought, SIDC, S'Net, Wagon Squadron etc etc. Cheers, Grant -
Not too sure what the law in a 40 would be, I'd guess that 55+ would be referred rather than a plain 3-pointer... my mum got 4 points and a £200 fine a few years ago for doing 51 in a 30 @ 6am, JUST before it opened up into wide open countryside. I also got into trouble for an average of 113mph on the A90 (70 limit) a couple of years back on my way to Aberdeen, that cost me £300 and a 3 month ban. How fast do you think you were going?? Cheers, Grant

This was kicking about a while ago and I found it pretty accurate for my area. Surprising how much of a difference there was between Shell Stations only a few miles apart actually..... However, last time I used it I think we were complaining that Optimax had just smashed through the 90p barrier. Oh, I wish the sub-£1 days would return. Cheers, Grant

Some may argue that a Classic is a bit of an 'old girl' now though JW... not me though, definitely not, I wouldnt get involved in that 'discussion' at all. Cheers, Grant

The self-inflicted shoeing has started... really wish I'd have been there mate, I say it every year, but I've seriously gotta get my finger out and set aside time/money for the next time. Brilliant report, the next installments are just going to get better and better I'm sure. Cheers, Grant -
Music is spot on mate... I'm sure you'll be back sometime though. Cheers, Grant

Haha, quality. Cheers, Grant

Haha, I see... I appreciate the simple analogy. Cheers, Grant

I'm not totally up on chassis tuning, but surely settings are settings... and as long as the operator has experience of setting things up and quality equipment (I believe Progrip & Hypertech use the same stuff) then it'll be hard to tell the difference, no? Cheers, Grant
