  1. On the passanger side strut tower, it looks like a pot with a bent in and out pipes. the clip is a catch type scenario.
  2. As long as you are drawing decent cold air via whatever, it should all be fine, If your in Clackmanan I know a man in Edinburgh who will sort your induction out. This guy does alot of work for Andy F. Enough said. Sensible guys sensible prices. SSW Engineering, PM me and Ill pass on the details. Callum W
  3. My car is a classic. its a dawdle, and on the cupra r filter theres a big arrow showing you the right way. Pop down and see the Greers they will show you Callum
  4. Where do you live? I know some people who can help. Callum
  5. One hole in, one hole out. Im quite sure we could come up with a rude conclusion but its quite easy. Fit it to the strut with a plastic tie.
  6. There is a mixed train of thought on this one depending on the power your running and the fuel demands you have. Some like the standard filter as it acts like a mini swirl pot, ie hold a reserve if you get fuel surge, some discount this as irrelevant and ineffective. Personally i run an inline filter in the same position as the standard one. You can pay a fortune for a knackerdooky fandango racing one, I use a seat cupra r one which flows exactly the same as a racing one you can buy from one of those places that sell that stuff If your running over 550bhp, then you really need something a bit special I dont think either you nor I need to worry about that though. Callum W.
  7. Its caused by the reduction in backpressure by de restricting the way the engine get rids of exhaust gas, the cars ecu thinks, wait a minute! I need to work harder now to make the same boost, and if your fuelling is still set to the way it was, as the turbo works harder to get the boost, then the correct amount of fuel wont be delivered and the car goes lean, causing all the dramas mentioned. Remap is the best option, or an increase in fuel pressure until that gets done via a decent pump and a fuel pressure regulator. best option obviously is to change the way the car thinks, ie an ecu remap.
  8. Most people find them on fleabay, however its hit or miss as to the quality and you need to get a kit with decent brackets. If you do fit em yourself be careful on the passangerside wheelarch or you will drill through the ecu wiring loom and be in a world of hurt. Callum W
  9. A custom remap and a safe increase in boost would increase your torque conciderably along with your hp, and give you peace of mind. Andy F is your man. Give him a call or drop him an email, tell him what your car has and what you are looking for and he will advise you accordingly. Callum W
  10. Thats Subaru just off the phone, asking me where I want the car delivered for the RB Relay, didnt really want it delivered to my work or my brothers house as im "man without portfolio" at the moment, so its going to a subaru dealership to be looked after until i finish work, then ill go and collect it on the 4th May. Its all coming together!! Callum
  11. Blueboy will be dispatching the already registered peoples stickers to the RO about now, so you should get them whenever Billy comes out of hibernation. Callum
  12. Indeed, I think John St is running so it would be nice to pop up and say hello. Or stand around and scowl at everyone. Or foam and talk nonsense. Or scare the children. depending on who you are. lol.
  13. My God, Peter Marr!! They told me you were dead!!! lol. Good to see your alive and well and back from the foothills of Outer Mongolia. It seems like only yesterday we had the conversation "So, what does an ecu do then Peter?" I havent looked back since. Im looking forward to seeing Big Red run. And having a peer under your bonnet, it was that car that first gave me the thoughts of "I want a car like that". Its been a long time Matey. Callum
  14. Hello!
  15. Chuckle, aye okay, he couldnt drive a 6 inch nail into a pan loaf [] That was a joke, I know the big Chap is fearless. Looking forward to seeing his car go. Enjoyed meeting everyone tonight. Callum
  16. You can jump teeth with a sticky starter or a bodged start!!! Hard to believe but very true. Glad its fixed now. Callum
  17. This is what I shall be doing in preparation for the trackday, and my reasons why, I hope this helps.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> ENGINE- Oil topped up but not overfilled to ensure no starvation on the hairpin, I change my oil every 3000 miles, you shouldn’t really leave oil in for more than 6000 miles on a turbo charged car IMHO. Afterwards I will count the trackday as 1000 miles. If you overfill it you run the risk of blowing it round your intercooler or even blocking your boost solenoid, been there, wrote the book. Coolant topped up and all hoses checked for durability, under hard driving Subaru hoses especially on earlier cars love splitting so its worth looking beforehand. Powersteering fluid topped up and checked for leaks, brake fluid and clutch fluid checked. After you have cooked it on track it really needs changed asap. It will lose its “Strength” with the heat you will be generating. Anything that has been lingering under the bonnet as a “Do later Job” needs sorted before you go on. Dougster and his powersteering leak springs to mind. If something is going to let go, it will do on track, believe me. Gearbox/ Clutch.- Check oil level. Make sure its topped up, I think yours is a 6 speed so as long as the correct amount of oil is in, no more no less, then you will be fine. A 5 speed really needs a bit above the fill line to ensure second gear gets lubed. This is my opinion, not a hard and fast rule. If your clutch is smoked, then I wouldn’t recommend going on the track, it will spoil your day. If its okay, then crack on! Ensure rear diff is filled with whatever grade of oil floats your boat, and is not weeping. BRAKES- As long as you have plenty of life in your pads, its cool however a spare set of pads is advised in the glovebox incase they end up mullered and smoking like a bandits barrel. What I mean is smoking brakes on a pitstop is okay, just let them cool after a warmdown lap of course, but if you cook them, the pad will burn right off the backing, so will need a spare set to get home, metal on metal isn’t kind to the discs on the way home. Spare pads are a good idea, and someone will always have tools to help. Discs warping are more of a drama. Brake shudder on track will confirm that the heat you have generated braking like Nicky Lauda once he realised his hair was on fire. Warped discs are a concern, cracked discs are dangerous. Avoid this by cooling the brakes properly on a warmdown lap and NOT using the handbrake when you pull into the pits for a rest, have a little block of wood or a stone to put under your back wheel to stop it rolling away. Don’t sit with your foot on the brakes when stationary, this is a huge cause of cracking discs. FUEL – Turn up with a full tank of shells finest, however I will have a jerrycan of 20liters of spare fuel to top up later when I get to ¼ of a tank. On a Subaru, once you are on ¼ of a tank and take the hairpin you may get fuel starvation which is not good at all. Its when the petrol all goes to the one side of the tank as you corner and the engine is starved of it and misfires, this causes det, and can kill your engine. The other solution is to drive away and fill up or buy an MRT intank baffle to stop it, or make something up yourself. TYRE PRESSURE- Don’t listen to the pavement modification Brigade, ask the Bloke at the tyres around truck, he will advise you the best pressures for the weather, if its your first time, don’t do slicks just yet if its dry, wait until you have a couple of trackdays under your belt, because it’s a whole different ballgame to road tyres CLOTHING- Longsleeves shirts are needed as part of the safety regulations, as are helmets, you can hire a helmet for £10, and get a fiver back when you don’t steal the helmet. Patting Your Shants because you don’t know what you are doing- There are instructors on call who will happily go out with you and show you the lines and the way to conduct yourself on track. Ask one straight away to help you out, I did when I first started and it set me up for a great day out. As I said, this is what I do before I go, I hope some of it helps. Callum
  18. The halfords 5.1 you can get does the buisness, however, its a case of "How long before I have to change it?" Under heavy braking all the time, and with the reservoir on our trusty subarus being located next to your turbo, in one of the hottest areas of the engine bay, with no where for the hotness to bugger off, the halfords 5.1 tends to lose its "resistence to squashyness" or whatever the boffins call it pretty quickly. This is from experience, I have found that yes, its pretty good, but it goes off very quickly. For the money you would spend repacing it 2 or 3 times a year I would say it would be worth spending a bit more on a more suitable racing synthetic fluid, and have peace of mind for longer before you start saying, "Shat, thats the brakes all spongey again and its not the pads cos ive just changed them, ill need to do the fluid again." The Halfrauds 5.1 is are clear as a nuns pee, as it goes off it discolours, and you will probabley be shocked how quickly this happens and you lose the tight feel. Money spent on better stuff will pay off later. Where do you get synthetic all singing all dancing fluid? Any motor factors worth thier salt when asked will be able to pull out thier lub catalogue and find some. Callum W
  19. And a MY 95 sti in white, lol.

  21. Welcome, I hope you enjoy your car as much as I enjoy mine. Callum W
  22. Yes, I totally agree with the factory build conclusions, When my cars original engine said "Goodnight and goodluck!" It was obviously stripped of all the bits that were needed, There was no obvious signs of the engine having been opened before, but many of the seals were in the same condition as you find yours and because the engine was built early enough to have supposed to have been blueprinted by STI, alot of the portmatching was found to be just a token effort or non exsistent. The TD05 also had a new shaft, that was the only evidence of work. Our eastern friends work quality left alot to be desired unfortunatley. Callum W
  23. SARD SJ gets the big thumbs up from me, and alot of the huge power skyline boys.
  24. Ok it looks like JOG will be unmanned, everyone wants to do the run, If I get no one by Monday night then its unmanned. Which is slightly dissapointing but there you go. Callum W
