  1. You could have saved yourself a bit of hassel and just blasted the bits out with an airline (as long as the plug was still in to stop it gong in the hole). Glad it all worked out in the end plus now you know your car a bit better.
  2. Fairy muff
  3. Both are easy, rack is a pig though. Baz, would have suggested the uj if the complaint was highs and lows. Do you not find thats how they start?
  4. Howdy. Have a look in the events section and get yourself along to toyour local meet.
  5. Nice to see you officially back Grant. So is this going to be a daily driver or a weekend plaything? Mon the classics!
  6. Low fuild will usualy be given away by a loud whining noise. If the level is of I doubt there will be air in the system as it's self bleeding. Belt, pump or rack failure spring to mind if the level checks out.
  7. Mine did the McRae run all the way down on one tank and had about a quarter left when we got to prodive.
  8. Let the detailing begin http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=25953
  9. Contact Harvey on Scoobynet, he's got loads for sale.
  10. Nice - now get it oily.
  11. No problem Del. Don't let me put you of it. If you like the way it makes the car sound, and a subaru is all about the sound it makes, then get one. Also, the girlies luv it. The over fuelling isn't huge and as long as you change the oil regularly it shouldn't cause a problem.
  12. You already have a dump valve that does that but it feeds it back into the intake system. If you vent it to atmosphere the ecu wil not be able to meter the intake correctly and will supply the fuel it thinks the car needs i.e. too much. It's not a big deal but you are making a backwards step to give you the noise. If you like it I'd say go for it.
  13. Why do you want one? The noise or "performance"?
  14. Normally I'd agree with you but in order to try and avoid breaking the box again I've got to reduce the rear grip. A 3 step plan was called for....... More tyre pressure at the back Make the back as light as possible so that's why the spoiler is off Put something heavy at the front he moaned a bit but couldn't argue with the logic.
  15. Don't forget his most important qualification- no mechanical sympathy
  16. Steady on Dunc, thats the black ones. Is it not the mag blue ones that you're after?
  17. I'm ready.
  18. Certainly sounds like it's running on 3. Start with the things you've touched like the plugs and the leads and take it from there. You could pull one lead at a time (with the car not running) and see if it stays the same ot gets worse. If it stays the same you've found the culprit.
  19. Very impressive Scott. Will be good to see what that sort of power looks like on the strip. Chris - please say that whatever the car makes will be enough for you. Not sure where you would go after this.
  20. How long had you been running the car for?
  21. What? Mapping has nothing to do with maf failure. As Iain has said contamination and vibration are what kills a maf. The 99/00 ones are particulary fragile, I did one in in less than 800 miles. STI panel filter would be my recommendation. Why take the chance with anything else for zero power gains.
  22. No really, when I bought my UK in 97 it was the highest spec available in the UK and had 208 bhp.. If I was in Japan I could have bought an sti which sort of makes my original point about them being higher spec. If you want to compare a type r with a P1 then thats another story. But it ends the same way.
  23. What you've got is flow, what you need is pressure. No way to test that with an open system, it need a pressure gauge to be sure.
  24. And did they feel different? Yes my jdm is faster, 208 compared to 280 bhp would see to that alright but there's more too it. Shorter gearing, dccd, quicker steering, roller bearing turbo, better cams, fatter drivetrain, plated diffs more agressive mapping all make for a different drive. My uk was a great car and felt pretty fast, it certainly showed up a few exotica in its time. My standard jdm would p*** all over it but I'd have to work harder at getting the best out of it.
  25. Going to be a pendant here but you do have one, just not an aftermarket adjustable one. They rarely fail but won't have a spare port to tap a gauge into. Dunno. The nrv on mine went so it was unable to hold any pressure it built up. When you pull of a fuel line it should spray out for a second (normally right in your face) due to the pressure in the system. Did this happen or did just a little fuel dribble out? No pressure means no spray from the injectors.
