IIRC the difference is in the pistons....don't think there's any difference in the block. As long as it's semi-closed i wouldn't bother about anything else block related(unless of course it's damaged lol) Not sure what pistons are fitted to the above pic, but the STi piston face should look like this...

The one on Ebay makes it difficult to tell if it's a proper 257 block, as it has a head gasket covering it. The block you got, should have an embossed area with EJ25 on it and A or B stamped in the middle of the top, in line with each bore, relative to which piston is an A or B. This is a semi-closed deck EJ257 block...

You don't need to worry about it mate, as your far enough away from me not to try the place. It was a small company in Dumbarton. IIRC it screwed Stuarts clutch up in no time at all.

Just make sure you get a DECENT place to do it though. Coulty will explain a bit more if he pop's in.

Is it not an STi you have Welsho? If so, your's is bigger and heavier than Stuart's.

IIRC you lose a couple torques when going to a lightened flywheel. If your determined to do it, take about 4 kilos off your stock flywheel and that'll suffice.

Not a big problem to do yourself, but would be easier with another pair of hands mate. Getting it out is fine, but getting back in is a bit of a PITA on your own.

True, but i see the depreciation come into it more and judging by what secondhand Caymen's go for, they hold up better than the Boxster.? Problem will be when it comes to sell it on, the Caymen will be easier to flog and get more of a return. Fuel cosumption is better on the Caymen too, so there must be a difference in the engine or something, if your getting the same performance.

Davie, my opinion would be to go with the Caymen. The market is flooded with Boxster's and considering the way the market is becuase of running costs, you'll likely pick up a cracker of a Caymen for good money.

Neil, consider first what the paintwork could go like afterwards. To do a full proper respray costs 4 figures, then some wee runt comes along with a key... Another thing to consider is how it can affect resale value. Dunno if you intend keeping it till it dies, but someone with a keen eye WILL find it's had a full respray and question it. You CANNOT get a 100% factory finish, even if the factory finish isn't great.

Could be a dodgy pump. If it was a garage that done the job, take it back and explain.
