If it's a classic you want get a v5 or 6 type r. If you get it checked out and remapped (if not already) for uk fuel it will be reliable. Even in standard form they are very quick (my m8's standard v5 did a 12.9sec qtr) and come with lots of toys, i.e intercooler water spray, and more importantly dccd.
On the insurance side of thing the type r, although not that more expensive that a sti to insure it is a bit more tricky to find companys that cover it (a few dont have it listed). Try a-plan insurance, very cheap.
