  1. Lovely car m8. Before you go mad in it get it checked out, either at dastek or wi andy f. etc. Don't want to worry you but a lot of cars that were tuned in japan don't last 5 mins over here (especially highly tuned ones) if not checked out or ran properly. I know of a few zero sports cars that wouldn't run right over here even with boost (mine being one). Until you can get it looked at don't use it without octane boost. I'm sure it'll be fine but it's always worth it to be sure. Enjoy it, Johnny.
  2. If your going to change it go for an sti but bear in mind they are more expensive to insure but imho well worth it. If you can afford it the type r is the one to get, dccd etc. the ra also has the dccd and exta weight saving but it's a bit more uncomfortable to live with (shorter gearing etc.). Bear in mind though that a good uk car can be made to go just as quick with the benefit of cheaper ins.
  3. Sounds like an air leak somewhere. Are you still getting full boost? Your resonator box is in the o/s wing, this helps quieten things down but if it's came loose it could give you a sucking sound from the induction side.
  4. Oh... so that is the way men take duffus then?? In that case i'll stick to driving down it in a controlled fashion (sort of). Although admittedly, i still have a lot to learn about driving on track.. []
  5. 12k out of redstuff[] with four pots??? I'm lucky if i got 2k with my 2 pots. You'll need to stop using tyre walls as brakes stephen... lol If you liked the redstuff try the yellow, much better.
  6. Dunno about the discs, i've heard they warp easy but you hear that about most disc makes (except ap). As for the pads i used red stuff on my classic with 2 pots and 1 track session nearly killed em off. I rekon 4 pots would easily see them wasted in no time. I tried the track based yellow stuff and they are miles better and only a few quid extra. Another good pad is ferrodo ds2500 but they're more money.
  7. They look as if they should. If you have aftermarket rims then they may not but most likely they will. I have a set of raceline rims on mine, i had to get later model wheelnuts to fit but the original lockers worked fine.
  8. Standard m8, i've got a fcd waiting to go on but can't be a#sed fitting it. Need to sort out my, diff, box, wheelbearing prob first...lol.
  9. Dunc, i had a similar prob, turned out to be the maf on the way out. Do you run an aftermarket filter?? Is you air inlet track clean?? Now i always get fuel cut but thats because i'm hitting over 1.2 bar boost on the standard ecu....Woo Hoo!!
  10. No, in 1995 you had the uk car, wrx and sti1. If it's an import it would be ebtter run on optimax. A STI version 1 does not have a red top engine but it does have a limited edition plaque telling you the build code. Early sti2's were about in 95 and these have a redtop engine (well red inlet manifold).
  11. Hard to say but going on the engine bay and interior it looks like a uk car.
  12. No difference, all sti's have strong, reliable engines that can take a lot of abuse. The probs come from different thinks (like any performance car) as long as they have had regular oil changes with quality oil, have been remapped for uk fuel ou ran woth optimax and booster they should be fine. Another prob is the maf, aftermarket air filters which havn't been looked after properly let crap by and onto the maf which kills em, this can lead to a failed engine. My advice would be, if you but it, change the cambelt (unless you know when it was last changed) and get it on the rollers to make sure everything is ok.... then enjoy. I know of a few big power sti's on standard internals with more than 80k and still going strong.
  13. I'm getting a whine and clunking from the rear, was certain it was the diff so fitted another, still not right so changed the wheelbearing, still not right so checking the shafts and if thats ok then its either the prop or the box. Pain in the a#se. Oh ,i'm also getting fuel cut but thats my fault and getting sorted.
  14. I know how you feel m8, i havn't been able to use mine in anger for months. Still havn't tracked the prob down, new diff, wheelbearings and looks like a box rebuild maybe on the cards. Think it's evo time.
  15. I got the gfb ones on my car, good price and look the part, weigh the part. Just look after them, they don't like neglect (mine don't anyway but i don't care).
  16. Whit??? Thats not what i heard...
  17. Unless your fillings are very secure or you only want the car for trackdays stay away from coilovers, very stiff and although very good it's way too hard on the road for most people. If you want a decent road setup that would cope with the odd trackday then eibach springs and new standard shocks work well. For me though, instead of standard shock a set of kyb agx adjustable shocks are the way to go. All in shocks and springs (new) should cost about £550.
  18. Good stuff m8y, piccies???
  19. It's thje first meet i've made this year and well worth it (apart from satan blowing a boost hose and muggins here jumping under the car to fix it). Good to see some new faces. Hopefully my car will be back on the road for the next one. Thanks go to Mrs big dave (sorry forgot your name) for the roll and to coultette for the burger. Alan G: thats a very impressive car you got there m8. Johnny
  20. What was the weather like?? was gonna head up with playsatan today and see how his car is performing now but as it was p#ssing down here we decided not worth the trip.
  21. A big syringe will also work, plenty lying around the local parks...lol Other option as dougster said is a funnel but attatched to a hose or thin pipe.
  22. you can wire it to the lambda or straight to the ecu (keeps all wires inside the car and hidden). If no luck by the weekend i'll get you the info (for a classic). sorry, but its the earliest i'll be able to pull my car apart.
  23. Tha harder you run an engine in the looser it'll be, meaning more power. This may lead to burning oil etc. and it wont last as long. The oil used will also contribute to this. It's a sort of juggling game getting a mixture of good power and long life, different people will tell you different ways to get this right.
  24. i thought bill and andy got the last of your loose change...lol
  25. Ahh.. the old eaten by the moths trick!!!! why are you not working???
