A De-cat will give more power so if thats what you want go for it. You'll need the cat for mot times unless you can find a sympathetic mot station. As for removing, It's pretty easy if you can swing a spanner. Once you move the stuff to get at the turbo end (heatshield etc.) there are 6 nuts at the turbo end, a couple of mounting brakets which can be a pain to get at and then just seperate the downpipe from the exhaust.
Use plenty of wd40 on bolts before you start. Hayward and scott do a good downpipe (open neck) or look through the for sale section, you might find one second hand.
don't know why you would need to know that as you don't need to renew them. iirc its 2 m8 bolts (17mm) at the top and 4 14mm nuts.
The 4 below are studs so some may come out with the bolts.
It's a quick and easy job, if the pipe hasn't been off before spray wd40 on the bolts and let it soak in.
If your doing the oilchange yourself prefill the filter before fitting it then unplug the crank sensor and turn the engine over until the oil light goes out (obviously once the new oil is in) then you can reconnect the sensor and start the car. Once finished take it for a run then check the oil level again.
Greenstuff shouldn't be used on the front of a scoob, redstuff are ok, i found them very dusty and didn't last long ( about 4 months i think).
Now on yellowstuff and they are much better, less dust and plenty of bite, still going strong after a year and 3 trackdays. No fade on track either.
I'm sorry, vbh is a top bird but even she can't make the new 5th gear worth watching. A litchfield type 25 will though then i'll go back to pulling my toenails out with rusty pliers.
Got mine from ebay (autogauge), lots of new ones on there, very easy to fit and it seems to be pretty accurate. (shows what dastek told me). A good idea if you mod the car.
I found mine fun, but quite a liability in the snow. ( no abs and 300 ponies through 215 wide tyres is interesting).
Only thing i did in the snow with it was donuts in thye middle of the glasgow fort..[]
A work colleage of mine was selling it on here a while ago. It's a 1996 wrx wagon with a few goodies on it. Although not my cup of tea it was in very good condition.
If you get to 400 you'll have a very nice car but don't expect very quick times on crail, it takes more than a good engine. you need to look at the suspension, wheels and tyres, but more importantly gearing and weight.
Coulty enjoy swimming?? I don't believe that for a minute!
He'll mess up his hair[]
Anyway, hopefully he doesn't bring the pennies for that rebuild in too quick, i'm enjoying the time off..[]
Andy, got to fix:
gearbox/diff prob,
gearbox mounting subframe bolt,
rear wheel bearing,
brakes,
suspension/chassis,
wash it,
Not much really...lol
All probs, not just getting uprated..[]
