  1. I am convinced that different makes are suitable for different cars. Falken FK452s on my Honda Accord 2.4iVtec are faultless, but I suspect they will not last as long as the previous Yokohama Advan Sports. But for 225x45ZR18s, they were only £106 a tyre + fitting @£10 each. However, on the WRX PPP, I will stick to my favourite Perelli P Zero Neros!
  2. Can't really imagine anybody buying cheap budget tyres for an Impreza. Death wish?
  3. Agreed - been there, done it on a Blob and current Hawk... Not difficult.
  4. Just £20.00 to be a member. Probably cheaper than eBay?
  5. Chris, Do you have a straight through centre pipe? At one stage, I had one on my 2.5, along with the Prodrive pack sports cat and back box. At certain cruising speeds, the drone was not loud, but very annoying on a long journey (couldn't hear Mrs Mac!). Since replaced the centre pipe with a Scoobyworld centre section incorporating a very neat, straight through performance silencer. Not as loud as before, but no drone whatsoever and still sounds very good (miles better than with the massive and restrictive OEM resonator. John
  6. Welcome to the club Alex. As with us back in 1998, a good car, the 2.0 Sport, to enter your world of Impreza ownership. Must admit that after not too many months, fitted WRX 17" rims, turbo suspension, WR backbox and a decent panel filter. Just couldn't resist!!! John
  7. Still a little confused regarding the pros and cons of a VTA dump valve. Have had a (quiet) Forge VTA on the WRX PPP since 2007 and have had no issues with it - the WRX is basically standard 2.5 PPP with a decent replacement panel filter, and I am confident that performance has not been affected. Also had one on a previous WRX STi PPP and again, no problems.. John
  8. Good to see that you replaced with another Impreza. Done that five times since 1997!
  9. On my third set of Pirelli P Zero Neros. Can't fault them, wet or dry. Did have Goodyear Eagle directional F1s on an earlier classic turbo and again, no complaints.
  10. Fair comment - but couldn't be as unpredictable as my old Ford Scorpio Cosworth 24V and that had a (primitive) LSD!!!
  11. Just read on Pistonheads that Subaru may (with permission from Toyota!!) be developing a turbo version producing 280 bhp. Will remain rear wheel drive. Sounds promising... Can't wait for performance estimates - should be excellent bearing in mind weight factor.
  12. Insurers ask the specific question "have you had any accidents or losses during the last three/four/five years". Guess you should have told them? Insurers, generally, are not b******s, but they do expect full disclosure of material facts!!
  13. Missed it - but appears it is being repeated on Friday at 7.00pm.
  14. Mine came from Performace Creations back in January 2007. Have been on for 30,000 + miles - never split or dropped off. Subaru type fixings. Now looking a bit tired and aim to replace next Spring. Very good quality.
  15. Yes, the standard Pipercross foam filter is oiled. Have had one on our WRX for over five years - have cleaned and lightly re-oiled twice with proper Pipercross kit and thankfully, no probs with MAF. Secret is not to over oil...
  16. What a great shame it has come to this. If people are so unhappy with SIDC, there is a very easy option...
  17. Have been using Millers CFS 10W-60 competion full synthetic for some years now. Expensive, but very good...
  18. My comment missunderstood - as a retired insurance broker with 40+ years experience, ANY mod. MUST be disclosed. However, unlike some many years ago, I stick to my guns as an ex. professional intermediary - in general terms, so called underwriting staff simply no longer have a clue.
  19. Thanks lewisscoob, but suddenly gone off the idea!! As for insurers, sadly most have no clue about motor vehicles, let alone modifications, however minor... John
  20. Where can I get one! The 2.5 WRX with PPP definitely needs a six speeder...
  21. I believe horse manure is available at a similar cost... Pig **** may involve extra cost.
  22. Welcome to potential Impreza ownership. Assume you will be looking at a wide track STi - in my opinion, with PPP, one of the best and frantic Imprezas built (I had a very late 56 plate a couple of years ago, but couldn't afford to run that and the current 2.5 WRX PPP!). Obviously, you will be looking for a full service history, confirmation of an HPI check or similar and a long test drive. On my STi, I fitted a Prodrive spring kit and Prodrive 18" 8J rims, which really improved the handling. Added a straight through centre pipe and a Pipercross foam panel filter. Also a Forge VTA (also on current 2.5 for 5 years, with no issues). Good to hear of another mature owner - I'm 64, wife 61, had Imprezas continuously since 1997 and both still loving it. Noisy, not too comfy, expensive to run, but positively addictive!! Good luck and keep us informed. John
