  1. Welcome! So good to still have the flash and wave from fellow Impreza drivers. No doubt you will have plenty from that lovely RB320.
  2. Perfect environment for a Scoobie. Have had some fun last few days here in rural East Hertfordshire. Grip (and braking) amazing...
  3. Have owned five Imprezas since 1997 and always found them to be very good on snow and ice. Best one was probably our first Scooby - a non turbo 2.0 Sport! Current WRX 2.5 PPP has run for last six years on Pirelli P Zero Neros - fairly soft compound, but don't last long. Daughter has a BMW X5 - useless on snow & ice!!
  4. Just to keep this in the headlines, Colin Mcrae-Racing Legends is scheduled for broadcast on BBC2 & BBC HD at 10.00 PM Sunday 27th January.
  5. There IS life down south! Must admit that East Herts have done extremely well this year with gritting A & B roads, but some minor roads and estates now solid ice. We took the grandkids to a local village panto yesterday afternoon. Car park lethal with ice and "normal" motors, incuding X5s with their rediculously wide tyres, all over the place. Excellent to exit in the WRX in an orderly and fairly quick manner, no slips, no slides and it's where the 4 channel ABS comes into its own. At the moment heavy snow falling again. Would like to take the Scooby out for a drive along the fab B1368, but worried might meet a Corsa sideways!! Instead, roast beef and all the trimmings booked at local pub and it's within walking (and staggering back)distance! No doubt total chaos tomorrow morning...
  6. Do you have any motor legal expenses cover that may include contractual disputes cover? Just a thought... Aso what about the legal cover included with SIDC membership?
  7. Welcome aboard! Back in 1998, we first caught the Scooby bug when buying a brand new silver 2.0 Sport. Soon after, fitted WRX 17" rims, Turbo suspension, a decent looking and sounding back box and a performance foam panel filter. Although non-turbo, it went extemely well, to the non initiated it looked like a Turbo and as usual, no problems in 3 years of ownerhip. Four more Turbo variants later, still loving our current 2.5 Hawkeye.
  8. Good decision to go for an STi - looks in excellent condition.
  9. GB270 is an excellent alternative. However, if you were really lucky, you may be able to find a low mileage Hawkeye PPP like ours with just about every extra included to match the spec of the GB270 and at a very cheap price. Ours is in fantastic condition, 36,000 miles, and just prior to Christmas offered only £5,500 trade-in against an RB320!!
  10. Which BBC channel is this series on please?
  11. Happy Birthday Terry. Wishing you a much improved New Year! John
  12. We've had five Imprezas since 1997 - totally addictive and don't plan to give up any time soon...
  13. All depends on whether or not Lexus or BMW are actually providing the warranty cover. When I bought my "Proven" Subaru extended warranty, I only discovered afterwards that it was underwriten by an entirely independent organisation and Subaru dealer needed their authority to deal with a claim. Same situation with my Honda Accord extended warranty, but big difference is that Honda main dealer decides whether warranty cliam is valid, rather than insurer.
  14. Having owned five Imprezas since 1997, obviously I am quite fond of them! I will now keep our Hawkeye until it is no longer economical to own and continue to enjoy it as being different, quite rare, fabulous to drive, sounds good (it's only done 36,000 miles and passed its MOT yesterday with no issues). Also, so good to have a wave or a flash from the majority of other Impreza enthusiasts. I pay £270 road tax, but £470 wouldn't make me sell it! I'm of the opinion that as time goes by, Jap STi's will reach our shores and so enable us to persue our passion...
  15. I believe I am correct in saying that due to interference by the useless Financial Services Authority, no manufacturers now provide extended warranties, as they would have to go through all the hoops and massive expense of needing to register as an actual insurer. When the three year Subaru warranty on our WRX expired, I arranged a warranty recommended by Subaru. Within a few months, the front struts failed at 20,000 odd miles and despite representations by Subaru customer relations and our trusted dealer, they refused to pay a penny, using the age old get out of ware and tear. Considered the option of respected warrany provider Warranties Direct who offer cover without a wear and tear exclusion, but the cost was just too expensive - £1,200 springs to mind. Now running without cover and resigned to the credit card when something goes wrong. Last Xmas's failure of the secondary air pump and its components cost us a cool £987!!
  16. Just caught up with Don's post of 14th December and I'm completely gutted at Subaru's decision, Perhaps if they had spent proper money advertising the brand, it would not have come to this. I feel that we will keep our wonderful Hawk 2.5 PPP for the forseeable. What else would we replace it with?
  17. Lovely looking Hawk, and I do like it in silver/grey.
  18. Our very first Impreza back in 1998 was a brand new 2.0 Sport. Excellent motor, improved within a short time with 17" WRX rims, Turbo suspension, WR backbox, replacement air filter, etc., etc. The rest is history, four Turbo variants since and still counting the cost! But worth every penny...
  19. For starters and to give some ideas, have a look at the Forge Motorsport UK website... Or Scoobyworld.
  20. I'm running with EBC red stuff ceramic pads on the back and big Ferodo DS2500s on the front. No apparent problems with balance and the red stuff produces less brake dust than OEM pads.
