  1. Welcome from another happy Hawkeye WRX owner. Have had a Forge VTA on the WRX since 2007 and a couple of years ago, it began to vent even when being driven sedately. Spoke to Forge who suggested that one of the springs had broken. They sent me a service kit free of charge and the problem proved, indeed, to be a broken smaller spring. Problem solved and it's easy to strip the unit down. From experience of Forge over the years, they provide excellent after sales service.
  2. That's one excellent looking Classic...
  3. Welcome from another happy Hawkeye owner.
  4. Yet another bit for the Impreza bought on eBay - just happens to be in a misleading box?
  5. Welcome from a Hertfordshire Hawkeye owner. Strut problems well known, but also watch out for failing auxillary air pump - see separate postings... Otherwise, Hawk has been typically reliable since purchased in 2006 - but, as with others, have spent far too much money on extras!! Just couldn't resist.
  6. As a MacDonald, I could have been there at Glencoe. Sadly a long way from Hertfordshire...
  7. Had a similar experience on two occasions with Adrian Flux. Young ladies didn't understand Prodrive Performance Pack and insisted on having full details!!
  8. Every little helps?! But is your WRX PPP otherwise completely standard?
  9. When talking about modifications, I'm absolutely convinced that it all depends upon who you speak to on the day. Originally, Aviva were reluctant to quote on our lightly modded WRX, but on having insisted on talking to somebody higher up, who then referred to an underwriter (an endangered species in these days of call centres), excellent premium, terms and conditions agreed. Job done. Also recall referring to a "specialist" performance car broker a few years ago - all mods agreed, but front big brake upgrade resulted in a no quote!! Pure bonkers...
  10. Welcome! Yet another Impreza owner who can't imagine driving any other machine... I'm on my fifth and eagerly awaiting prices of a 340R saloon becoming affordable.
  11. Sorry to possibly upset people, but WRX PPP with all mods disclosed, cost me £295.11 in March with Aviva under a multi car policy. Included AA breakdown, legal expenses and protected NCD, but subject to a £600 excess. One of the few benefits of being 64!! However, the WRX has 43 years NCD entitlement, and I have the feeling that the premium won't be so attractive next year. At least drawing my old age pension will provide...
  12. I agree with Davey - always best to declare every modification, even if it doesn't affect performance. I went for Subaru WR stainless steel mesh grilles and Aviva didn't charge any extra.
  13. There should be a Christmas fund started for Don in appreciation of the amazing amount of technical information he gives on an almost daily basis!!! John
  14. Still a rarity in East Herts, but recently a WR blue Blobeye WRX with a decent exhaust is doing the commute on the B1368 through Braughing. Are you SIDC?!
  15. Steve, Advice from another 64 year old, old git with 22 years since my one and only claim, don't drive the car - you are uninsured having not disclosed work done!!! I'm with Aviva at a very reasonable cost, but of course, my mods are relatively minor. John
  16. Welcome from another Hawk owner! Beautiful photo - good enough to be in EVO mag...
  17. Welcome from nearby Hertfordshire and from an owner, going back over the years, of three classic Imprezas.
  18. I needed to resort to a home assembled Heath Robinson type contraption that wouldn't look out of place on one of the many rubbish TV hospital programs - however, works a treat!!
  19. I'm now running the WRX 2.5 on Millers CRX 75W-140NT diff oil and CRX 75W-90NT gearbox oil. Since installing in June, I tend to agree that all feels extremely smooth!! Also have used Millers CFS 10W-60 engine oil for the last two years. Good stuff...
  20. Is filling the gearbox on the Bug as interesting as with the 2.5 Hawk?
  21. Had cam belt replaced @ 28,500 miles (5 years). My trusted Subaru dealer, Welch Group, Cambridge, advised no need to replace tensioner or idlers, as no obvious signs of wear. Now done 36,500 and no sign of typical tensioner problem.
  22. Sorry - gets confusing - especially at my age! John MacDonald
  23. You're replying to the wrong person!! I'm very happy with my "quiet" Forge VTA and I agree with earlier comment re. excellent after sales service and advice from Forge Motorsport - rare these days! John
