  1. Every little helps?! But is your WRX PPP otherwise completely standard?
  2. When talking about modifications, I'm absolutely convinced that it all depends upon who you speak to on the day. Originally, Aviva were reluctant to quote on our lightly modded WRX, but on having insisted on talking to somebody higher up, who then referred to an underwriter (an endangered species in these days of call centres), excellent premium, terms and conditions agreed. Job done. Also recall referring to a "specialist" performance car broker a few years ago - all mods agreed, but front big brake upgrade resulted in a no quote!! Pure bonkers...
  3. Sorry to possibly upset people, but WRX PPP with all mods disclosed, cost me £295.11 in March with Aviva under a multi car policy. Included AA breakdown, legal expenses and protected NCD, but subject to a £600 excess. One of the few benefits of being 64!! However, the WRX has 43 years NCD entitlement, and I have the feeling that the premium won't be so attractive next year. At least drawing my old age pension will provide...
  4. Still a rarity in East Herts, but recently a WR blue Blobeye WRX with a decent exhaust is doing the commute on the B1368 through Braughing. Are you SIDC?!
  5. O.K. Baz, Basil, Barry??
  6. Sorry - gets confusing - especially at my age! John MacDonald
  7. You're replying to the wrong person!! I'm very happy with my "quiet" Forge VTA and I agree with earlier comment re. excellent after sales service and advice from Forge Motorsport - rare these days! John
  8. Agreed - been there, done it on a Blob and current Hawk... Not difficult.
  9. Chris, Do you have a straight through centre pipe? At one stage, I had one on my 2.5, along with the Prodrive pack sports cat and back box. At certain cruising speeds, the drone was not loud, but very annoying on a long journey (couldn't hear Mrs Mac!). Since replaced the centre pipe with a Scoobyworld centre section incorporating a very neat, straight through performance silencer. Not as loud as before, but no drone whatsoever and still sounds very good (miles better than with the massive and restrictive OEM resonator. John
  10. Still a little confused regarding the pros and cons of a VTA dump valve. Have had a (quiet) Forge VTA on the WRX PPP since 2007 and have had no issues with it - the WRX is basically standard 2.5 PPP with a decent replacement panel filter, and I am confident that performance has not been affected. Also had one on a previous WRX STi PPP and again, no problems.. John
  11. Good to see that you replaced with another Impreza. Done that five times since 1997!
  12. What a great shame it has come to this. If people are so unhappy with SIDC, there is a very easy option...
  13. Welch Group, Cambridge, have looked after my five Imprezas since 1997. Can't fault them - always fair and helpful and same experienced staff have been there for years. A fair drive from Wisbech though? John
  14. I bought mine on eBay from performance_creations five years ago and they are still going strong! They still supply at a very reasonable cost - worth a look. John
  15. For the past 5 years, I have stuck to P Zero Neros on my WRX PPP and soon to buy third full set from www.allnewtyres.co.uk. Great prices and very fast delivery. I just can't fault the P Zeros. Recently bought four new Falken 452s from them for my Accord 2.4 iVtec at fantastic price and had fitted locally for £40.00...
  16. On previous STi Type UK and current WRX hawk, have had Prodrive spring kit fitted. Only lowers by 25mm but transformed handling of the WRX - no bounce and much sharper all round!
  17. Chris, There probably is a special tool, but I managed to remove it with a pair of pliers (on current WRX and previous STi). Re-using the clip is difficult and I resorted to using a jubilee clip to secure the bung to my Forge VTA dump valve. John
  18. Yes, I had a mini rear wing fitted to my previous 2005 WRX STi Type UK and also have one on current hawkeye WRX (see my avatar). Both were bought colour coded from Scoobyworld and fitted by my usual Subaru dealership as I didn't want to risk a bodge, or worse still, detaching itself on the move! Speak to Scoobyworld for fitting advice. The hawkeye one has been on for 5 years and still good as new, and looks good. John
  19. I've read lots on the forums about Subaru dealers being rip-off merchants. WRX into Welch's today for some minor checks and attention. Must say that, in my opinion, they are the best of the best and the reason for continuing to rely on them since 1998!
  20. Soon to buy third set of P Zero Nero's for the WRX 2.5 PPP. Just can't fault them - never lost grip wet or dry. Last month fitted four new Falken 452's to the Accord 2.4i vtec and so far very pleased. Quiet running and good grip (but it's only 200 bhp!). Had thought of trying them on the WRX, but decided to stick with a tyre that has never caused a panic...
  21. Very sorry to hear that. Must admit, apart from the Mrs, nobody has ever driven any of our Imprezas over the last 15 years. Not even my twice Caterham championship winning son-in-law! They are just to easy to drive very fast and when something nasty happens, it's often too late...
  22. Mine's a nice Prodrive polished item with a blue end. Very cold in winter, but the Mrs has sourced a comfy knitted cover. Magic...
  23. And the OEM items are not gas filled (which are far superior). KYB won't supply direct due to some sort of arrangement with Subaru - if going down this route you will need to find a capable specialist. Let me know if you need a contact - my man supplies and couriers at a very reasonable cost... John
  24. Personally, I wouldn't consider fitting OE struts - very expensive and no guarantee that they will last very long. I had a specialist source KYB gus struts at half the cost and so far, very pleased.
