  1. Dunno why people are bothering - no privacy issues as it was on public roads. So people think some nasty crooks are gonna look on Google maps to plan where to nick a car from? Why don't they just jump in their car and go for a drive round the area looking for cars to steal rather than looking on the web at a map that is showing a pic of your drive/parking area from 9 months ago? (maybe less but not much!)

Yeah, and a Scooby thats worth a few grand, when there all manner of exotic cars actually parked on the street as you walk pass. Whatever did car thieves do back in the day before they had out-of-date satellite images?

  2. You may not like it, but you got off well light...

    Whatever.

It is slowly, but surely getting to the stage that driving a car is crime. In fact, the green-lobbying, tree-hugging brainless twits already tar motorists with that brush. It's getting to the point where driving the car is actually annoying; dodging speed humps, negotiating traffic calming schemes (that make me rage in actual fact - oh the irony), dodging craters (AKA potholes), checking tints, nervously looking down at the speedos in town, through cameras, through school zones, on motorways, measuring the distance between numbers & letters, making sure there is a kite mark, don't have a badge on your plate, EXCESSIVE fuel costs, congestion because the road network has not scaled with the development and growth of car ownership, reduced speed limits without warning (70 - 50s on motorways), etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. and ETC.

Every time I venture into the car, my alert systems have to be on DEFCON7 for the duration of any and every journey. By the time I get from A to B I'm a quivering, broken wreck - a shadow of the man I was before I started the journey (being facetious for anyone with a sense-of-humour by-pass)!

Getting off lightly??? I think NOT!

  3. I've got Eibachs on my wagon and really rate them. Decent drop, though not as low as Teins and comfortable ride. I asked Duncan's advice at Hypertech and he recommended the Eibachs to me over the Teins due to my circumstances (newborn in the family, so didn't want too harsh a ride).

    Cheers,

    Andy

I ended up ordering the Teins from Revolution £199 in VAT

  4. Why did i not get a warning instead of a fine, thats not fair :P

He is right though John they can take the plate off you.....

    Kenny

Yeah, I know. But without moving the space, the plate is meaningless. If they have it off me, so be it, it only cost £250. I don't get this dumb law; well I do, up to a point. Granted the letters have to be a certain size, a certain font and certain distance apart to comply with ANPR systems. However, not all plates comply with the XXXX XXX standard. I have seen plates containing as few as two characters on it - if moving the space along one is going to screw it up, then how does ANPR cope with these plates and thousands of others with similar (legal) designs?

  5. There have been a lot of traffic cops about lately, in particular there were 3/4 bikes on either side of the M8 around the showcase area with a marked 5 series sitting a few hundred yards before them doing the spotting I guess . . .

As if life isn't bad enough for motorists with the shambolic state of the roads, excessive costs for fuel, huge hikes in road tax and now pish like this!!!!! I have been pulled a number of times for mine and fined once but I was only fined £30. So does that mean that the fines have risen by 100%? I was told that I can get pulled and warned one more time, third strike I'm out. That means that I have to replace the plate with a regular one at my cost. I have a set of legal plates in the boot just in case. "Sorry Adolf, er I mean officer, I have a set right here, just not had time to put them on yet :P"

  6. And there was me JUST swithering as to whether or not they were gonna be a bit too hard vs an Eibach Pro Kit.

This'll be the clincher then... Eibachs it is!

Yeah good choice! I'd have thought almost a grands worth of suspension would have lasted a bit longer than 2 years.

  7. I had a Tein strutt burst a while back so i got it sorted that tein would repair it. 6 and a half weeks later after it being on holiday in japan the strutt came home in perfect working order. But that was also 6 and a half weeks i was with out a car :P

    Much ££££££££££?

  8. Tein look ace, but the ride is sh!te on Hawkeye STi that I had... would be going Eibach if I had to do it over again.

    Cheers,

    Grant

I had the Teins before and I can't honestly say their was a marked difference with the COs. I think I talked myself into Teins LOL!

  9. I know how you feel - after not using the car much over the winter and then seeing most every decent twisty road within a 30 mile radius of my house turned to rubble, I was seriously considering whether I was getting my money's-worth out of the Scoob...

But I've started venturing further afield lately to enjoy some smoother-surfaced highways and, particularly after a good run last Sunday morning, have begun to appreciate again the sheer joy of driving a great Scoob on a great road.

If you have the time and the petrol money, it's worth taking the car somewhere where you can enjoy it properly again. I apologise for repeating an oft-repeated piece of advice (of which I myself was once sceptical), but a cheap wee second car really is a great way of keeping the weekday costs down and making you appreciate the Scoob all the more when you climb back into it :brickwall:

Yeah, but then I'd be spending more money to buy a second car then run that car as well. Its not really the money, its the value for money, if you see what I mean? I love the car but does it provide a "value" equal to the financial outlay? I'd have to say no, whereas before, I would have said yes. It would be a different story if I had future plans for it, but I don't. I have lost the track-bug for various reasons, and modding the car was for the track. So I have reached a dead-end in a sense. I couldn't face advertising the car and all of that, because that is a concerted effort and I'm not ready for that! BUT if a soul came along with ample reddies and said, "Geez yer motor" I might just clench my butt cheeks, hold my breath, close my eyes and say, "OK Hurry!" Then cry myself to sleep for a week, gradually coming around as I see all the new things that my extra cash purchased! But then again, the summer is almost upon us - long warm nights - Scoobie meets - pack mentality - road rage! That thought brought a smile to my face :brickwall::P

Oops - sorry for the thread crash!

  10. If you read the other thread, you will know that my COs are shafted so I need a solution. I haven't the time or patience to send them back to Tein for repair (especially when they don't give you a price up front!) so I'm thinking of putting the stock struts back on with a new set of lowering springs.

So, what to buy? I have ruled out Prodrive on account of the slightly higher ride height, so its down to Eibach V Tein (or any others?). So what does everyone suggest? I'd snap up a set of 2nd hand ones if they are going. Car is WRX MY06

    Thank you!

  11. he thought it would be about £100.....not sure how bad mine is to be honest, i will b v angry if it takes any longer than quoted time, i am getting them to phone dunc once they have the shock there and assessed it before they start the work.....

dipsy, how much were u for bc's if u dont mind me asking and how long did it take for delivery?

    scott

I think I'll just buy lowering springs and use my standard shocks. Then I can get the COs repaired at my leisure and put them back on again or sell them at a later date.

  12. JW you will get the same answer like i did if you email them. When i sent tein a email 5 to 6 weeks for repair for that length of time must end up back in Japan .I asked what it costs to repair .They said don't know till they strip it down .Then you get a price .Smao1 what i just typed thats the reply i got from tein uk .I went and bought Bc coilovers from the main dealer Apex performance

thanks guys. Scott, did Dunc give you an idea how much it will cost? Can't believe that there's not a service centre locally that can do it. If Id know that, I'd have avoided them like the plague.

  13. Hi All

Another set of Tein COs bite the bullet. My NSR shocker is goosed and the OSR is on its way out too.

What's the procedure for getting these sorted? Do they have to go back to Tein or is there somewhere more local who can do it?

I still have standard suspension in the garage, but I don't fancy driving around on jelly stilts, so I think I will stick on a set of lowering springs with these.

    Any advice appreciated.

    JW

  14. You getting itchy feet again, John?

I think if the right offer came along, I'd let it go. Can't drive it fast (shocking roads); only used as a commuting tool, costing over £600 a month to run (thanks to fuel and road tax)... Gotta ask myself is it worth it. Therefore, if the right offer was made that allowed me to settle my loan, I'd take it, buy a cheap car and spend my cash on other things.

It's not that I want rid of it, but I would let it go, probably with much sadness and no doubt, regret.

  15. I mean, how can such an extreme ISO of 1600 possibly be usefull... :)

How about this wee shot... ISO 6400! Granted, high ISO settings seriously degrade the shot, but at least it lets you got a shot indoors without a flash; good for weddings
