  1. I use a ND grad filter (http://www.great-landscape-photography.com/graduated-filters.html) to properly expose the sky. Simply fit the bracket, slide in the filter, expose the foreground correctly, and shoot. You can slide the filter up and down until you get the desired result. You can also set your camera on a tripod and take two shots; one with the correct exposure for the sky and one with the correct exposure for the car. Take each shot into Photoshop and blend them together.

EDIT: Love the car, stunning man.

  2. Thanks gentlemen, most helpful.

I have tried and hoped that the car would go to an enthusiast, but I have to call time on it and start taking in some dosh for it. After reading the above, seems like eBay is a high-risk strategy. Only tried selling on here and on Piston Heads with virtually no interest, so its time to ramp it up a bit.

  3. Hi All

I need to free up some cash and I want rid of my Scooby sooner rather than later (sooner has already come and gone).

Can anyone give me some tips for selling on eBay with regards to fees etc. I don't want to sell then have to hand over 20% in fees. Any advice welcome.

    Thanks :P

  4. I think you missed the point of the post Stephen. I wasn't putting down Apple's customer care, I was questioning the need for a "Genius" to swap a phone. A genius is the sort of person who invents things, like jet engines and other mega stuff. I just think their store staff are inappropriately named; talk about dumbing-down.

  5. I've always though the genius bar was a particularly pathetic name - it's just customer services ffs!

I split mine in two t'other week - simple fix but there's tabs that indicate damage/a drop in three places (look down the headphone socket - may be red?!?) but they can be reset easily enough. Best bet for the back case would be eBay.

    Thanks mate :D

  6. Genius (a definition):

1.an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc.

    2. a person having such capacity.

I have cracked the back of my iPhone, so I thought I’d call the Apple store in Glasgow to price a repair. The call went something like this:

Me: Hi there, I was wondering if you could help. You see, I have cracked the back of my phone and I was wondering if I could price and organise a repair.

Assistant: You will have to make an appointment to see a “Genius” to have your phone replaced, that will be £139

Me: A Genius? To replace me phone? But its only a little crack, around half inch in length, can’t the back simply be replaced?

Assistant: No, we can’t do that, you will have to have the phone replaced by the “Genius” and its £139.

Me: What? A genius? To replace a phone that has minor damage? Can’t I just have it fixed?

Assistant: No, sorry, it has to be replaced by the “Genius”

It takes a genius to replace a phone? Can you believe that crap!!!? A trained monkey could replace the back, let alone a genius to swap a phone! What an absolute farce!

Anyway, does anyone know where I can get a new back for my 3Gs 16GB phone?

    Thanks!

    JW

  7. It's a great stock response that. It helps as much as testicular cancer.

John - make sure when you restored your phone that the iTunes store is set to the right country. You should be getting emailed receipts for your itunes purchases too, so check you've been getting them and ensure it is the right account.

Music and photos (with the possible exception of the camera roll?) etc. aren't backed up because the assumption is they're coming from your iTunes library. Otherwise your backup could be 32gb on the 3Gs of that size.

Yeah, I figured that after I ran the restore. Phone is working fine again. After I ran the restore and just as the phone completed the boot up phase, I received a text message that said something along the lines of, "Consider this an iWarning and don't attempt to jailbreak your phone again" Eek!

No more Jailbreaking for me, its a minefield, that even traversed safely, offers precious little in the way of reward on the other side. People have asked me why I wanted to JB my phone and I couldn't really answer!

  8. Have been told that your firmware has to be right up to date, as the baseband has to match that of the new JailBreak software. After you've downloaded the new Apple upgrade your now downloading it will work.

Thats why you havent been getting a signal

Got the phone restored. Even though I lost all my photos, music and apps and that as with a backup. Well done iTunes you pile of ****E!!!! Still have contacts, appointmens and texts - bid deal! And before anyone says "its in iTunes"... its not, because I lost all of it in a recent hard drive crash :occasion14:

To download apps and songs I have to re-enter my apple ID and password which DOESN'T work. I ask for a reminder and enter my name and email address... Apple tells me there is no such account with those details. I mean, why do people buy this $hite??????

  9. I've restored a few from older firmware without issues. Did it reboot after you loaded it up. If not reset the iPod holding the Home button and the Off button until the screen goes blank.

Yeah, it rebooted. Tried it again, still the same. When I go into settings and then network then carrier it just says "Unable to load network list" So I can't call or text and can surf only with WiFi. 10 more minutes until the Apple software update completes its download...

  10. Hi John,

Never heard of that happening, only with older firmware. I've done mine with no hiccup and also know others now who have no issues.

Make sure when your running the software everything else is closed so it does'nt interfere. Restore will bring it back to life.

    Cheers, I hope so :occasion14:

  11. Never seen that before but then I only did it oce and it worked.

If all else fails you can use itunes to restore back to standard and try again.

Doing it now... hopefully I will get a network signal when the restore is run and that I have not damaged any hardware.

  12. That was good... now my phone is completely f****d! All the inbuilt apps like SMS Phone, contacts etc. have completely dissappeared. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

All the icons came back, Every time I look through that Cydia crap, nothing works and now my phone wont find a network, "Unable to load network list".

  13. Hi John,

Cydia is where you can download lots of un-orthodox goodies from! One BIG bank of many different sources, supplied straight to your handset.

Themes, ringtones, sms alerts, emulators. Pretty much anything you wanted to change, or do on your phone is now possible! Inside Cydia it has lots of different sub-categories for you to look through and updates itself with new software everytime you log back on.

It really is better to Jailbreak, I had actually forgotten how addictive it becomes looking through the updated software everyday! Make sure your signal is at 3G when downloading.

My advice would be search for Winterboard as soon as you are up and running in Cydia. There is a search engone that will make it easy for you. Once Winterboard is on your iPhone, you can start customizing it as any Themes, SMS alerts or wallpapers are launched from Winterboard.

Any other issues drop me a line!

    Thanks man. I'm going in...!

  14. If you have your library saved somewhere it will be fine John. Otherwise - get your iTunes in order first before doing a sync again. It should copy back the apps, but not music etc.

I don't have it saved elsewhere though; as I said, the library items were on the crashed HDD.

  15. OK, another iPhone virgin question of the stupid variety: I have lost all my data on a recently crashed HDD - so, if I reinstall iTunes and sync my phone, will I LOSE all my suff like pics, apps, music and ringtones OR will the stuff on my phone by saved to iTunes? I ask this because there have been times stuff has gone missing during the sync phase and now I really don't trust iTunes, actually, I HATE it!

  16. 3GS 3.1.3 JAILBREAK SOFTWARE!!

    www.spiritjb.com

Select your OS "Windows" or "Mac"

    Select "RUN"

Plugin your iPhone and select Jailbreak...done. Simple as that> 60 seconds max and loads Cydia onto your iPhone.

    Have fun!

What's Cydia??? I HATE not knowing stuff!

  17. So, I know we already have an iPhone thread for the purist apps but what about the Jailbroken apps!?

Jailbroke my 3GS tonight and wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a few goodies???

How did you manage that? I read not too long ago that the latest 3GS couldn't be jailbroken. The only way to do it was using a Mac - I take it you have a Mac?

  18. Dreadful thing to happen to anyone let alone to a car of this stature. Glad you and your passenger are OK though, that's the main thing, which of course, I'm sure you know.

Hope the insurance pay out for you.

  19. Make sure you have an old credit card to use as a squeagie (sp?) to push out air bubble and ensure good contact. After a few days, make pin-*****s in the air bubbles and use your credit card to flatten them down.
