  1. Not to harp on about the GB270 vs STI thing too much, but here are some of the goodies the STI offers over the WRX/GB270:

    • 6-speed gearbox - the upper gears are close ratio, very useful when you're pressing on through the twisties. The 'box can apparently also handle much more torque than the WRX's - handy if you're ever looking to boost engine power.
    • DCCD (driver-controlled centre diff) - you can effectively vary F:R torque split from 50:50 to 41:59 (either manually, or by letting the computer do it automatically). Doesn't sound much, but the latter mode gives the car a palpable rear-drive feel - the back-end comes alive, steering becomes sharper, and you can even generate some throttle-on oversteer.
    • Bigger (Brembo) brakes.
    • Bigger turbo.
    • Bigger intercooler.
    • Smaller steering wheel with a higher-geared steering rack.
    • Wider track.
    • Slightly longer wheelbase.
    • Forged crank and conrods.
    • Bigger injectors.
    • STI instrument panel (much nicer than the WRX item).
    • Tracker (don't think the GB270 has one as standard?).

You might know about all of this already, but I didn't before I bought my first Scoob (WRX). If I'd been better informed, I'm pretty sure I would've gone straight for the STI ;)

    The STi makes sense :P

  2. hi sorry a 51 plate wrx

I dont think that will make much of a difference in terms of sound, but I would have thought that since you were decatting that section, it would require a remap since you are changing the airflow going into the turbo. Also, what other exhaust mods do you have?

  3. Another 10 out of 10...

I used to drive from Edinburgh to Ayr to have my car serviced there. Nothing was a problem - they fitted my PPP kit and suspension kits. If it hadnt been for a family filling my car these days I would have had at least another 2 scoobs of them.

You get a prize if you can get John Spicer to smile

WillieF, a moderator? Never even heard of you!!!!

  4. To make the best of a situation is to have a run about and a mad modded scooby B)

But then you pay tax, insurance and repairs on that which then adds to one's overall motoring costs... Plus, it means you get to drive the Scooby less. Therefore, you put out more cash but drive the car less. That doesn't make sense to me. The best situation is for the other half to have a decent motor that can be used on joint trips and general running around. Since the other half needs the car, tax insurance etc. is already laid out on it, so there is no extra outlay and savings are made on fuel costs

  5. Used them only once for a service and some diagnostic work, also had a chat about trading my Scooby in for a GB270 a while back. Thought they were really helpful and even changed a set of disks under warranty with no quibble. If they were closer, Id use them again.

  6. all the similar 2.5 cars Andy has done are around 1.35 -1.4 bar, 340 - 345 bhp @ 375 - 390 lb ft of torque, very slight differences between cat or de-cat & 97 - 99 ron

not aware of anyone getting over 400 lb ft with these mods,

    Me: 1.5 Bar - 343BHP - 397 lb/ft Sports Cat 99 Ron :D;)

  7. engine has been fitted, they are now just sourcing a load of bolts/brackets etc that were butchered while the car was at ava <_< once thats done then alan reckons it will be full steam ahead and shouldnt take long, although now i have a new 1 to play with i aint hassling him as much to get it finished.lol

Isn't Hypertech working on your car? Two Scoobies?? I'm having a hard time justifying one at the moment :D

  8. Yeah, I called up looking for bolts to hold the seat frames in place and they asked for a reg no. I said, look, they are standard bits across the range, jsut look up ANY WRX in an 06. They hummed and hawed about it and said well we can't exchange the parts if they don't fit. At a whole £5 I said I think I could just about cope with that. Took then well over three weeks to get them, pants!
