  1. Wilky, you're more than welcome to jump in the Bat Mobile. If there's going to be guys coming in from down south then I'll stick my name forward to help out with meeting up with them somewhere and leading them in. Obviously happendon services just off the 74 makes most sense.
  2. The car itself was at the Motorsport show in Lanark earlier in the year. The Squiggle and myself stood looking at it for a good few minutes. From what I remember he then reached over and touched the bonnet and said a wee something to it.
  3. I'm in Bothwell, but Hypertech and Greers are the people that have done the work on the car in the past. Not sure of anywhere else to go that might be closer. If I was going to a garage of some sort I'm wanting to go with as clear a picture of what the possible issues might be so we can try and get to the root of the issue asap and I'm not left driving away no further. If it was the adjustment of the clutch pedal that was wrong then would that explain the rattle and vibration when in 3rd and 5th? Also would it manifest itself with regards to where the biting point of the clutch was, with the pedal further in or further out?
  4. Cheers Ally. I'll have a word with Paul on the train in the morning and see if he's interested too but I suspect it would just be one car anyway.
  5. Alan, is the adjustment something that the cackhanded amongst us can have a go at? The box was to the best of my knowledge fine before the work was done.
  6. My point being that he wasn't in because he wasn't finished yet! It would be like putting in Andy Murray now rather than when he retires. If you look at the list of Inductees - http://www.sshf.co.uk/inductees - you'll see it's all people that have long past finished competing. Obviously there's been a tragic end to his career now and so it will only be right that he gets added.
  7. Ally are we talking cars or people here? 1/ Ally-b 2/ Richie Cross 3/Mac 4/Squiggle 5/Bogie 6/H4AFY 7/Gus the Bus (hopefully I'll be able to get a half day) 8/Neill54 9/Scooby Princess and Edmondo (if i can get time off) 10/nippySweeties 11/IainC (depending on babysitters and day off work... second part far easier to organise than the first) 12/st3ph3n
  8. I imagine he wasn't in because he was still actively involved in sports. Maybe not in the WRC, but in other things.
  9. Not hanging about either.
  10. Ah the three wise men respond. Firstly thank you guys. So to the points raised - what oil, not sure. Whatever Greers put in at the time - just says 4 litres of gear oil on my receipt. The problem with 5th happened in the last couple of days when the weather was particularly cold. Had no problems with it today when the temps have been back up. Point towards oil perhaps? Dave, if I was to check the linkage is it a straightforward process? The cost of a rebuild is certainly not what I was thinking, so bit more relieved about that.
  11. In March this year I got a new clutch and flywheel fitted and the gearbox oil was changed. This was at the same time as my other mods and in preperations for the car being mapped by Andy. Since then I've never REALLY been that happy about how the car has been transmission wise. The rest of it is great. The first thing that sort of struck me was that it was a bit notchy going into third. The next thing was twice not long after getting the work done I would reverse out the driveway, then go to change into first and the car would go into neutral then not want to go anywhere else. Clutch out and in seemed to solve it. the third thing has been more constant - there is a bit of a rattle that is manifested through the gear stick itself when the car is in 3rd and 5th (probably in 1st too, but can't really make it out). If I put my hand on the gear stick then the rattle either minimises or disappears completely. The car was taken back to Greers on two occasions, the first after the incidents with not getting out of neutral, the second about the rattle. The car was driven by them the first time and Bill Greer said that other than 2nd being a bit noisy there was no probs. Said it was common for that anyway. Fair enough. Second time it went down they said the rattle sounded like it was coming from behind the dash and that it wasn't from the transmission itself. I've poked about in the centre console to try and cure the rattle but never with any success. NOW! On monday night driving home I went to go from fourth to fifth on the motorway and basically it wasn't for going. I put it down to me being clumsy as it engaged at the second time of asking. However again yesterday and today it feels a bit more notchy than usual going into fifth. The car itself drives perfectly, but I'm beginning to think that the gearbox is gubbed, or that there's something going on with how it's been all put back together and that perhaps when I'm shifting the movements aren't being translated correctly further down the mechanical chain of events and that it's not engaging as cleanly as it should. In all honesty my understanding of how cars work has grown significantly since I joined the club. Engines and suspension are well within my grasp now, but at the moment I still think gearboxes are the work of magic pixies hiding under the floor. So does anyone with a clue have a clue? If the gearbox is gubbed then would I be better looking at getting it rebuilt or just getting one off the breakers and swapping them over? Car is running 290/290 at the moment, and I have no plans for more power for the forseeable future as the brakes barely hack that as it is. So I'm not looking for any sort of straight cut dog tooth arrangement.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_BQIaKYsk4 Look at that. 110% commitment.
  13. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/17/the-day...crae-1968-2007/ Another good article there guys.
  14. The BBC Articles now feature a link to the club too. Such a surreal experience seeing myself on the telly yesterday and indeed today too. Still, I think the press coverage has shown that it was a really nice gesture that we did. Well done again Grant. For all your protestations about your abilities in front of the Camera I personally could not think of a better person to talk about the man than yourself. Like Imy, when you were asked what he meant to you I had to stop myself from having a good wee chuckle, but once you got into full flow I doubt there was a dry eye in the house.
  15. It feels like we've lost a figure head. The club exists because of Subaru's popularity which is in a large part of Colin's doing. Most importantly 3 families have lost loved ones, and countless friends have lost important people in their life. People who were all far too young to die. For the rest of us we've lost a hero.
  16. John did you get really low on fuel at any point? Could have been just the dregs in the tank. Mine was running like a three legged Donkey over the national fences a few weeks back, but it was some dodgy fuel from a station on London road. I filled it up at my favourite watering hole and drove it carefuly for a hundred miles or so before stretching the legs again and it was better.
  17. I looke like I'm squeezing one out in that photo. Today for me was what the club was all about. Comradery, friendship and driving damn good cars. I think we done the big man proud. Absolute pleasure to call each and everyone of you my friends.
  18. When the news flashed up earlier about a helicopter in Lanark my mind thought of McRae but quickly dismissed it. I get back home and the news is looking ever more like it is him. If, and as much as it pains me - it surely looks like it, it is him then it's a huge loss firstly to his family and friends, and also to Motorsport and Scotland as a whole. We're all brought together here by owning these cars. I think it's fair to say that, in the UK at least, the brand would not be what it is today without what McRae achieved, and that Scottish Scoobies or the SIDC as a whole wouldn't be half or quarter the club it is.
  19. I'm not an expert on the classics myself, but from what I remember you can remove the secondary cat in the centre section without much trouble, but removing the down pipe one is getting to the point where you'd probably want a remap to ensure the car is not only running safely, but that you're unlocking all the power too
  20. http://rally.subaru.com/event_2007_xgames_gallery.html "HUNNERS" of pictures as we say round these parts. A few of Mr McRae himself. His No fear stickered hawkeye is one mean looking car.
  21. Marty, merged your post into here seeing as it was the same thing.
  22. She's not the prettiest belle at the ball. But you know she's dirty
  23. Did they not change the IC on the 06 onwards to be a more efficient design? Go and take a picture John!
  24. Best way to save money on induction is not to bother - standard is good for decent numbers, and you'll not run into any problems with MAF sensors etc. Keep checking the for sale section for exhuast bits on the cheap.
